- Pavement story from TV3's In Focus program.
Filmed in Dunedin and Auckland by Andrew Moore, with help from Phillip Moore and Dominic Stones.
Also features the 3d's and the Tall Dwarfs.
"My name is Spiral... I play the axe..."
Excellent.
For anyone who wants to know, that sick guitar lick that pavement likes is the 3Ds and its the song Evil Eye off their first album.
I mean Evil Kid.
I love The 3Ds so much
This is the equivalent of a medieval sheepskin hand-written doc. Rare, precious and kept by someone who cared.
Or it could be a bit of pop-culture ephemera.
Who am I to judge?
This is the item that got me into Pavement! i can't believe i just found it. oh my goodness.
Crikey! Thanks so much for posting this! Priceless. Underground Dunedin bands being rolled off by lads from Stockton.. very special band Pavement. Even if that was just College Radio in the US.
Thanks. A truely great band!

Do you know what the track is at 3:02? I gather it's the Twall Dwarfs, but I couldn't find which song that is.
Its the 3Ds... will find out what song for you.
nomoreheroes
Thanks- I'd be very grateful!

Geez, that announcer has terrible hair.
It's Gary Young the Plantman!
Broadcasting fees! What will those whacky kiwis think of next? I'm pretty sure that because N.Z. is on the underside of the planet and in another time zone that it's still 1993 there. Someday I hope to experience 1993.
Live in Dunedin, can confirm.
i fucking love this band
Hey so this is a slightly random question, but nomoreheros you seem to have a few items from the early 90's. Do you happen to have any pieces about Nirvana when they played Auckland in '92? Logan Campbell Centre it was.
I'm sure they must exist but unfortunately not much is out there when it comes to that show. Just thought i'd take a shot in the dark and ask you :)
bad ass, thanks for posting. talk about rare footage!
What a great clip! I saw then in Wellington that year. 3Ds were the support act but some good judges said that 3Ds eclipsed Pavement that night
I was at the Christchurch show and the 3Ds wasted Pavement.
Thanks everyone!! Got some epic footage from 2 gigs they played in NZ on this tour... Will post some up in the next coupla weeks.
I used to have this on videotape,
thanx for posting
I remember watching this, seems like yesterday. Good days
poor gary :(
Thats Evil Kid from the Fish Tales EP
no problem... will put some more up soon.
This is frickin awesome - didn't like 1993 in Dunedin that much - wish i'd been at these shows then....
Bob was/is the hype man
WHats the name of the first song?
I could've sworn Gary was still drumming for them the first time they played Wellington (James Cabaret on this tour?) but have begun to doubt myself in recent years. Had thought they were touring Crooked Rain Crooked Rain but it might have even predated that album. Can anyone set me straight?
Back in 1993 when this was shot Gary was drumming and they still hadn’t recorded Crooked Rain yet
awesome footage.
this is bad ass
I never imagined they ever even set foot in NZ...
Gez, they have played these shores heaps. 5 times? Just saw them last week in Wellington , previously up in Auckland in 2010?
evil kid
Q saco fui na reunion tour de praga e só tinha meia dúzia pirando (inclusive moi) queria voltar nessa época dos grunge Q fazia mosh divertido e saudável
@Beefgog Can't remember off the top of my head, but it's from Slanted and Enchanted
Pre-screaming set up with Nastanovitch on stage
@Beefgog "Jackals, False Grails- The Lonesome Era"
What song is that at 3:03 I know it's by the 3Ds and I know it's not "outer space".
Evil Eye
Don't worry ! Turn to JESUS CHRIST ! He will give you the things that you are looking for, that you really need ! Seek Jesus Christ now and Get Saved
MessageWarning hahahahaha
