Your definitely correct about fish emulsion attracting varmints! I've used fish emulsion for decades and have had excellent results with my plants. I learned the hard way about raccoons digging in search of that tasty fish, a lot of work ruined. Start plants inside with emulsion and as they grow ( quite well) taper off before putting them in the ground outside.

Not the same brand, butI just used fish emulsion fertilizer for the first time last week. My plants had just gone into the ground the day before and were about 8” tall. The next day, every one of them looked like someone had blow-torched them. Obviously MY bad, but I did use the recommended amount, which was far stronger than the dilution you used. Thank you for the knowledge…one of those learning moments when ya’ go “Ohhh…I got it!” Bought their replacements yesterday and will get them to their new home as soon as the predicted thunderstorms pass. Thanks again!
I’m in Florida 9b my second year gardening. Been using Alaska Fish Emulsion for 2 years - on mature plants. Nice to know it can be used (diluted) on seedlings.

This is my first year growing seedlings and I bought some of the Alaska brand but haven’t fertilized yet so this was very helpful thank you! I’m currently treating my seedlings with mosquitoe bits water 1x a week.. is it still ok to fertilize? Should I space out the treatment and fertilizer a few days apart?
I'm not familiar with mosquito bits water, but I would follow the label directions for any fertilizer or use half the strength. Over-fertilization is always possible, so just watch your plants and how they react the to fertilization treatment that you are doing. Thanks for watching, and hope that helps!

Depends. Give it a week and you should see some results over time.
Would you use 2 tablespoons of fish emulsion on 3" tomato plants or cut it in half?
Refer to the directions on your brand of fish emulsion. I like to cut that in half with seedlings.You can always add more later if the plants look like they need more nutrients.

Yes you can. I would recommend diluting it to 1/4 of the labels mixed strength or less. (1 teaspoon to a gallon of water instead of 2 tablespoons.)

Indeed raccoons are attracted by the fish smell. I don't use it much outside for that reason. Out in the garden you can use an organic all purpose fertilizer without that issue.
You can also make your own manure tea. (Video coming soon!) I get chicken coop bedding from a local organic farmer. It is droppings mixed with bedding (straw or wood chips). I add a quart or so of that to a five gallon bucket of water and let it sit for a few days (Covered so you don't have flies or mosquito larva in it!)
Then you can dilute that and water your plants without the critter issue. It can have a slight odor too depending on how diluted you use it but it does not attract critters like fish emulsion and fades quickly outside.
12 ga. Shotgun with number 4 birdshot for your raccoon problem.
Try a racoon trap.
Do you know how to get rid of the smell? I know it's good stuff and used it on my indoor potted tomatoes (before I watched this video) and the whole apartment smells (and not so much of fish, but rather of fish poop)!

Just curious once you added concentrated fish emulsion in the bottle of water. How long is dilluted fish emulsion good in a sealed bottle?
Because you don't want to over water so I'm going to have some dilluted fish emulsion left over as you demonstrated.
I think it should last a few weeks at least. It is decomposed fish so no issue of it going bad in my experience. I also make manure tea from chicken manure. It can set for weeks as long as it is covered so it does not attract insects.
I drip it after pouring 100% of the time!
My wife hates it because i used it when she was pregnant and it's forever triggering to her, so to speak
