- The Path MEGAzine catches up with the artist formerly known as TONEX. He is now going by the name B-Slade. B-Slade graciously grants us an interview after stepping off the stage of the Bonnerfied Radio's anniversary celebration at the 26th annual Stellar Awards.
The performance would be the largest public performance that B-Slade has done since announcing that he was gay on the now cancelled Lexi Show. You could tell that the interview, and the controversy was still fresh on B-Slade's mind, as he changed the lyrics of his hit song "The Trust Theory" to include not speaking with Kirk Franklin in about 6 years and dropping Lexi's name later in the next sentence.
When we spoke to the artist formerly known as Tonex, we asked the questions we felt the viewing audience wanted to know. B-Slade, always gracious to answer our questions, let us know whether or not he felt being gay was a sin. We found out why he changed his name, and what the name means. We learn more about the people who turned against B-Slade's new persona, and how he feels about them. We find out whether or not B-Slade will ever record new Gospel music again, and we gain perspective on the audience that B-Slade is trying to reach with his talent.

after watching this video i seem to want to pray even harder for the future generations as well as my family even harder, reason being is that gospel music as almost a whole isn't really setting any high standards but trying to blur the line between the world and the bible. I know what it is like to battle sexual addictions. I was introduced to porn at the age of 8...smh I have battle addictions and have had to recover from a broken life... heterosexual outside of marriage, or homosexual practice is not of God and He can and will deliver you. People are born with cancer, diseases and all sorts of imperfections, that's why Christ emphatically said that we all MUST be born again. Sin has, in time perfected itself through the flesh, so evil doers has grown worse and worse. It is because of sin we live with diseases, selfish impulses, impute thoughts and desires and we have to be born again and THEN, walk carefully in truth, otherwise what's the point. Being born again is just the first step, then it takes a conscious and careful daily inventory of your life before God. Just because you are born full of sin, don't make it right or OK. I was born selfish and full of evil, I had to be born again.

The reason why I asked that question is because I've had this conversation before, after performing my own research from dozens upon dozens of studies about "orientation determination". NONE of it has been conclusive biological factors having a dominant influence on either hetero/homo/bi orientation. So when someone leads with the "it's not a sin", or "it's not a choice or habitually derived", it always puzzled me.

I'm sorry for those that chose to leave the church because of negative church folks. There is a difference between "Church folk" and "Christians". No one is perfect and EVERYONE makes mistakes. Living a homosexual lifestyle is not right but that doesn't mean anyone should judge, leave that up to God, that's his job. All we, as Christians, is to pray for one another and try to live the best we can. God allows man to make his/her on will, but in order to not live wrong you have to trust in the holy spirit and God to make the right decisions. Homosexuality is not right in God's eye. And there are things that are hard to explain if you don't trust in God or have faith in Him. I find it so frustrating when an individual denies his or her natural sexual orientation because some religious ideologies have told him or her that's it's wrong-and worse, that he or she can change! Thus, I really admire Tonex for being honest with himself about his sexuality, instead of fighting it every day, knowing deep down that he'll never be able to truly fit into mainstream, stereotypical Christianity. That must have taken so much courage on his behalf, and I'm very proud of him.

We are born innocent and God gives us the ability to rationalize and make our own choices and decisions.
No matter what weakness we are born with Jesus can still set us free, remember He told us is that we "must be born again". I pray that God will deliver him & set him free from this season that he's going through in his life right now.

I believe because Religion has given God such a bad reputation when it comes to homosexuals, that most homosexuals don't want anything to do with God. I was raised in the church, but because I wanted to do what I was doing, I turned my back on God and His Word. I just chalked it up to man's word. Many years later, I had to go back to God thru a hardship I experienced, and God loved me through to His truth. He is a VERY LOVING God, and I know He LOVES YOU.

God has me writing a book about my experience and deliverance, but this small amount of space can't explain it like I do in what I'm writing. I don't think the book is for publishing, but more so that He can teach me about it and for my learning and understanding. By this time, I am so far removed from who I used to be. Praise God!

In a spiritual sense yes you are correct. We were all born in sin and we have the potential of doing anything. But physically speaking there is no "homosexual gene"

I don't condone his lifestyle as being gay but I love him none the less. He is an amazing person. I hope he stays focused on God.
I think he is just being human. I lost my family as well. Times are tough. He who is without sin throw the first stone. And if he is gay, that is his business.
I know several gay people who have been delivered but more importantly no one discusses the abuse that lead to the change in their lives in the 1st place. The hurt, pain, confusion the sexual desire that has arisen as a result of being stimulated at a young age when mind nor body or prepared. Its really really sad.

This is the biggest problem with the church now is that we cower when we should be speaking. The apostles stood before politicians and leaders and spoke and the word and gave conviction; why are we afraid to do the same today? Condemnation and conviction are two different things, and the moment that you start saying "none of us have the right to say" when Jesus said "be the light of the world", there's a real problem.
