    Remember people, if you are playing any game and suspect someone is cheating DO NOT call them out in global chat, this will only cause them to toggle off their cheats for a while. Report them through the game, or discord if it is possible. That way the admins will have a change to watch them and make it easier for them to get banned.

    12:41 what most people don't realise is that it's not just the cheating software that makes you more vulnerable to malicious code, it is also anti-cheating software that exposes you. Any kernel level intrusion to and rootkits are malware, regardless of the perceived legitimacy, and having either one installed increases the chances of your system being compromised exponentially.

      That's what happens in an arms race, both sides keep making more and more horrifying weapons to outdo each-other, and it ultimately makes the rest of us far less safe. At this point to contain the risk I use a dedicated windows install on its own separate drive for these types of games.

    • @mindsunwound

But I would have no idea how to even start doing that. How are we meant to be safe when a normal person would see a techy person as way too knowledgeable, they see me as a power user (frankly for a relatively shallow knowledge base), and I see you as a god of computers?
      What is a Hypervisor? How do I control my firewall connections ports? Am I already doing that? Sure I can spin up a VM and play around, install a new os and have some fun with it. Maybe play a game or two on it, but I'd have no idea what I'm doing if I tried to interface with the anticheats I've installed. I can write basic code or config files, and I know the very basics of networking etc, but there is a huge gap here when I look into Proxmox, VMware ESXi, Hyper-V 2019, etc. Any solution I check into looks monumentally more complicated than what I've used so far (Mostly Virtual box) I wanted to swap to VM Workstation pro 17 off a recommendation but I only just found the repository for the versions since their links broke on the website for so long.
      Man where do you even start from here? Its like I just opened pandoras box. I honestly don't even know if virtual box is a level 1 or whatever I didnt know they had levels or a name lmfao. Cheating is so widespread in rust. The worst kind are not the ones using aim bots, more the esp / debug users that find the cheapest route to your best loot or know when you've moved loot to another base etc. There are hard to catch for admins as they normally avoid behavior that give it away or they just bag in the account with cheats to locate things then play on a legit account.

      @@animalicon3535the reason cheating in console is small is cause obviously unlike pc you cant download stuff on a console and if you cheat on console you're risking getting ur entire console banned and losing 500$ not even being able to play offline, with pc you just lose the game account and the cheaters just buy a new one and keep going and with ai there will be cheats that just look at the players screen and auto aims in the head in a way thats impossible to detect even console isnt gonna be safe soon.

    • @whitneydylan1
      @whitneydylan1 4 місяці тому +1

      @marlon.8051 to add to this, the console developers are also working to get rid of cheating and making it harder to use hardware cheats, and making software cheats completely brick systems. So there's an extra layer of protection where as PC you can fairly easily customize your system and not even have to use an official version of the operating system.

      If you cant fix these first two issues for some reason make a rust 2 in Unreal 5 and sell it for 60$ to recoup the cost if its a good game fans will buy it so make a good game and bring back the 50,000+ old players with 8k+ hours that you lost and gave the middle finger to this brings me to my next point on what to tweak in the game to bring back solos and duos as well as long term reoccurring old players and bring in a new and old but primarily less toxic community
      1 remove the newer recoil update and bring back the old recoil for the guns as well as the sounds
      2 remove the work bench bases tech tree system to bring players back to monuments and having larger teams fight for what they need instead of building by a light house on the coast and farming sea barrels with 15 people to get t3 and AK bp in 30 min
      3 remove the green dot team UI this prevents teams larger than 4 or so from forming without very good coordination and allows for more interesting team dynamics and the ability for small teams and solo to ghost clans this makes the game less rigid and more playable for returning by players lessening a clans power which is something that's desperately in need
      4 Remove all drone stations from the game this forces players to go to player made safe zones allowing for more interaction with players and yes more risk that's what rust is all about and how it should be this leads me to number
      5 remove most of the vending machines from the outpost it makes it too easy players flock to the outpost for a start this causes the game to progress too fast and lowers the time for player to player interaction an rivalries to happen if you cant die and lose all your comps than the game is no fun this leads me to number
      6 remove the recyclers and all placeable tools like the T1 and oil refinery from the outpost then consolidate the large barn and ranch in to the outpost and remove those safe zones from the map The only safe zone that should have only one or two recyclers is bandit and it should not be 100% safe like outpost give it some danger like it used to be. to sum it up outpost should be where you buy helicopters and horses as well as gamble and do player trades face to face so add shop fronts this space should be 100% safe but you should not be able to progress the entire game from rock to AK while living in outpost this is 100% possible i have done it this is a sign of a broken game and bandit camp should still have a gambling wheel and that area should be 100% safe and the recyclers should be 80% safe and all other places should be less than that.
      This is a very short email compared to all the other stuff i have to fix the game and things you can add after to balance progression but you should go down the list in order fixing the game how described above but incase you get bored i will send some ideas down the pipeline
      1 make a system to where you can research boats helicopters and bikes/motorcycles by bringing them up to a research table and pressing a disassemble button then waiting 5h or something like that more for helis and les for bikes and boats then unlocking a special vehicle table and then having to get 10 different ingredients to craft these items ea. (boat) 5,000 wood 150 low grade fuel 3 gears 500 metal frags (Heli) 2,000 Metal frags 5 gears 300 low grade fuel 30 HQM you can also add a function to the spray can to paint only crafted vehicles
      2 trackers. sticky trackers and dart trackers one for vehicles and one for a player the tracker player dart would go perfect with the blow gun you are adding all tracking signals can so to the camera station and use a code to access the map then anyone who uses the station after application of a dart or sticky would now see it on there map you can apply these to crafted vehicles when you craft them to make them impossible to take off to discourage people from taking them or you will know where they live an get your revenge even if the camera station in your base is broken
      3 half or more TC upkeep to allow big bases like what we had 2015-2018
      Plz spread the message

    Facepunch servers are un-usable and you can tell by their pop.
    If it wasn't for private/community server/ with active admins, that made it to the official tab,
    Rust would've died a long time ago.
    But even now watching admins dedicated as camomo not using the F7 report that goes through EAC, because "there is no point anymore", when a year ago his slogan was "always F7" just said it all to me.
    I think admins deserve more credit on the "war on cheaters" than facepunch does.

      The core problem is that gaming online is a lot about the social aspect, and when games instead opt to be system-mechanic-rule oriented, and specially automated at large scale, we get a cannibalistic environment because few end up caring what goes on for other players - the wellbeing of a community becomes secondary to the individual and this applies to both cheaters and overall bad sportsmen.
      Servers with attentive admins and event organizers were the start of everything online and most likely will end up still being the one thing that actually works in the end. Unless we get "stream only" games and computers, that is...

Gamers with actual morals who care about other peoples experiences would never even consider cheating, let alone download them and use them. There is no redemption to be had, you failed and showed that your brain is missing the part that keeps normal people from choosing to be a POS. 🤷‍♂️ You’re not a gamer, you’re a cheater.

      @@JackShephardTV Thank you brother, and no worries 😁 Cheating is definitely an interesting topic, but i do believe AI will be the future of anticheat. Seen many large companies starting to dip their toes into the development of AI Anticheat, Valve being a prime example of this as they refuse to resort to kernel anticheat. As long as it has a good stream of data to collect and learn from it has the potential to be great. AI has improved a ton since we first started seeing it and its already being used for all kinds of different purposes, so i have no doubt AI will become a great deturgent for cheaters. Question is really how long it will take before we get a proper AI Anticheat as its a big risk for developers to put it into use (As falsebans can become a big problem). Atleast that is my take on it.

      Can't agree more and nearly wrote the same in my comment here - cheaters were always a problem but more manageable back on "old recoil" and cheaters/scripters got banned way faster because a "humanized" anticheat actually made sense. The combat update and the RNG and aimcone based recoil was just not the "right" approach to fix the "scripter problem" and just lead to the massive increase in "hard cheats" like ESP and aimbot - making things as easy as it is now in Rust also just benefitialed those type of cheats even more and the RNG effect makes it even worse to distinguish if it was just a good spray, "lucky aimcone" or you actually got killed by a cheater with silent aim/aimbot etc. so how can an actuall "humanized anticheat" still distinguish what is possible or not when it is based on randomness?

      South Korea's linking of gaming accounts with National IDs has left the chat. We need laws passed that would identify and ruin a cheater's life. This includes if a parent allows their children to play on accounts that they own. PS. I don't mean throw them in jail, but restrict their travels to other countries. They can't escape this one. If they can afford the cheater's subscription and the hardware to run the cheats...they obviously have the money to pay massive fines and not be able to declare bankruptcy. I would love to see a program where they are also forced to have a clown face tattooed onto their face until the massive fine is paid off.

    I do like the specific note that it's about harm reduction. The end goal of anti-cheat isn't to get rid of cheaters, but to reduce the impact of cheating on the normal gameplay experience and to force cheaters so far in the closet that other players can't even tell they're cheating.
    There is no such thing as absolute integrity online, and there never will be, but there is absolutely the ability to enforce a generally skill-based environment where players are fully capable of climbing of their own merit more negatively impacted by smurfs and other poor behavior from legit players than from cheaters.

      It works, even if it’s a messy apology. Drugs have a much, much different solution (decriminalization possession, addiction prevention programs, needle exchange, investment in lower income communities, combating drug companies/cartels, etc, etc). It has the underlying tone to it that, despite failing, effectively, the war on drugs was necessary.

    • @Kodax12
      @Kodax12 5 місяців тому

      @TOH_Fan in his defense I think the analogy works on that front too because it's not so much that the war on drugs was "necessary", rather fighting on the wrong front; mentioning treatment and rehabilitation rather than doing literal war over it. Same can be said about cheating; the war is being fought from the developer standpoint when it should be dealt with legislatively because of how few regulations there are in the various countries he mentioned in the video.
      Naturally I think comparing cheating in videogames to a real world crisis is probably unwise and was bound to cause controversy, but definitely not "one of the most idiotic things" ever said.

    The 5,500 Hour Rust manifesto of Water Pickle
    The good the bad the ugly
    This is how you make Rust i mean fix rust
    1 Fix Cheating with a hardcore Anti cheat like the one PUBG uses.
    2 Fix performance issues on lower end systems, if an rtx 1660 can run DayZ and PUBG it should be able to run Rust

    • @N3ON1993
      @N3ON1993 5 місяців тому +1

      As someone who is playing Rust since 2014 this is one of the best comments i saw under a Rust video and i couldn't agree more that Rust needs a drastic change in the way it is developing back to the hard and "painfull" game it was before the casualization took it fully - the "meta" of the game is completely broken and the ease to play the game now just benefits cheaters even more. I agree fully with the changes regarding PVP, safe zones etc. but in terms of wall/roof stacking i need to disagree - i even disliked the "restrictions" in terms of building even tho i am more focused on PVP - but giving someone creative the chance to create something unique and benefitial in terms of base design should be as important than the fact that competetive players who spend time to "master" their PVP abilities can benefit from their training and dedication.

    • @whitneydylan1
      @whitneydylan1 4 місяці тому

      This all basically comes down to make the game harder for causal players, this makes it so the main demographic of a game is childrenwhich in turn limits the total amount of people who will play it consistently.
      Even tarkov with 6-12 month long wipes is hard for causal players to progress, people who work long hours are turned off from games that make everything a grind which is why rust has been catering to them, and a huge reason why every wipe of tarkov has fewer players than the last.
      This also does not help the cheating situation at all, unless anticheats get good enough to stop most cheats out there. Causal players usually do not have the time to spend 6+ hours a day grinding to even get a gun, so when they keep getting wiped day after day and having to start from nothing they just stop playing and go play somewhere else.
      There's plenty of hardcore servers that cater to people who like that, but if the devs make the entire game that way it won't work out in the long run.

    The future is going to have to be hardware built in to the CPU to do memory monitoring, possibly even going as far as having a server figure out what memory should look like and send the hardware a checksum to compare in memory, this would drastically increase server costs but online games are becoming quickly unplayable even on consoles.

During 6 weeks on the most popular cheaters discord server I was able to make combined list of around 600 active cheaters, with their xbox accounts (xuid), steam accounts (steamid), discord names and more. I made it public and what I got for doing this was being harassed by other players, attacked for exposing known players on the scene and had other problems that I don't want to share publicly. I decided that it's not worth my effort and closed that experimental project.
