I'm a longtime Watchtower fan. I even got a letter from their bassist, Doug Keyser along with newspaper clippings when I ordered a tape from them back in the 90s. The more I listen to this, the more I love it! I especially love the song Mathematica Calculis! Magnificent job gentlemen!!!
Keyser is def a skilled bassman. He has to be. How could he keep up with Jarzombek's guitaristics otherwise? I love Keyser's bass work on everything, but on Mathematica Calculis . . . it's extraordinary!
Jarzombek was also very nice when I ordered spastic ink CD from him. Was kind enough to tell me what had happened to members of his brother’s former band Juggernaut.
Hi Ron, please make sure you send CD's to "Rhino Records" in Claremont CA. They have a great Metal and Prog section and many people shop specifically for those musics, including me when I'm in town :). One of my fave places along with Amoeba Music in Hollywood: www.rhinorecords.cc/index2.php
Ron i ve been waiting this for two fucking decades! Watchtower is one of biggest musical influences! We assure you we buy everything you release! so keep up the good work gents! :) All the metal scene waits more from you guys! :)
First time ever listening to this band. Fell in love in the first 30 seconds. At 1:30 I don't know anymore what I've been doing my entire life. I'll finish this comment because I'm not sure I'll be alive at the end of the video.
I was listening to Control and Resistance only the other day and lamented the fact that I'd lost touch with the band and its music. Imagine my surprise when I found out that there was some new Watchtower released in the last couple of years. Liking it so far fellas.
They're underrated for sure but that drum fill isn't that hard - it's not quite as difficult as most of Lamb of God's songs on drums, but it reminds me of them a lot there. Sounds awesome, just isn't particularly difficult, either.
Im a fan of thrash metal since 90'. I like both of classical, Technical and progressive style. We have the big 4 of course .. BUT we have GODS .. and Jarsonbek and his guys are the real GODS. TOO MUCH UNDERRATED.
I can recall some interview with Coroner , sometime in the late 80s or early 90s ( not sure now ) and it was very common to use the term " techno Thrash " back then when referring to what bands like Coroner were doing att . Anyways , this was in Metal Forces mag if memory serves - interviewer asks them sth about them being the most technical thrash band out there - I can recall them having a laugh and telling the interviewer to go and listen to Deathrow´s " Deception ignored " or/and Watchtower´s " Control and Resistence " and see what he thought . So much great music which has gone completely ignored or had a lukewarm reception to the classic albums ( Voivod´s " Nothingface " album spring to mind ) they were releasing while others simplified and made their sound more accessible to the MTV masses ... it is what is ... enjoy \m/
I saw Coroner and Watchtower on a co-headlining tour in March 1990. I had attended the concert because of Watchtower, but after the concert, I had also become a fan of Coroner. And "Control and Resistance" as well as Voivod's "Nothingface" were among my three favourite albums of 1989 - still like both of them today.
@@MissLoonasSpeech I saw a concert of that tour in a small venue in Northwestern France, with a French band called Loudblast. I had a nice chat with Marquis Marky and the rest of Coroner; moreover, my jaw dropped when I saw and heard Watchtower. And that made me buy a bass guitar a few months later...
I'm not a mathematician, but interested in. Watchtower? Never heard before. But from my former life, I knew Gentle Giant, and your music sounds similiar, that means: magnificent!
Look at Ron’s other projects, namely Blotted Science and his solo work. Blotted science is interesting because much of, if not all of the music is actually scored to film.
Literally just stumbled upon - HUGE fan of C&R back in the day. Utter disbelief that I am actually hearing this (like everyone else, it seems). Mind-blowing - please tell me there's a long-player coming. Oh, and the second Control Denied album wouldn't be half bad either, while we're in fantasy land.
Waiting for Spiral Architects for too long, I hate to say, I doubt they will ever make an album again. But hands down: A Sceptics Universe is one of the best albums ever released.
Know them already ;) The tech-thrash-metal, regular technical metal sector isn´t all to big, also I don´t like Growls within highly melodical stuff like Watchtower/Spiral Architect etc. which narrows it down to a few bands...sadly.
"Controlled by Confusion, Confused by ControI" same words are also used in the song "Mekong Delta - About Science". people who complain that the vocals are no good, me i think they are perfect. they capture perfectly what is the essence of watchtower: insanity. the only other band that captured the same vibe, was norwegian band spiral architect. if you want generic vocals, there is plenty of bands, that have them.
How did I miss this for 4 whole years? I guess this is that mythical "Mathematics" album that was rumored to be worked on for years and then cancelled.
I can't stop listening to this album. WatchTower is mind blowing. Amazing continuation of / variation on Spastic Inc, Blotted Science. Ron Jarzombek, I am a great fan of your creations! Looking forward to hear more fresh stuff! Just do not stop to be inventive maestro! Perhaps I have not heard all the old shit yet too? Any suggestions? Just discovered, parallel to WT, Spiral Architects - also amazing stuff. To all who commented earlier, thanks for sharing your thoughts and recommending some other crazy progressive bands. From my side, although it might be slightly of the course, I recommend the Panzerballett, Planet X, Animals as Leaders. all less / more metal / progressive. Cheers
Loads to dig into here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I'm hearing the typical bass drum triggers at all. I think the drum tone here is terrific, sounds like a live set in your face. The toms actually have great resonance, and the snare sound isn't annoying.
the drummer had good partners to play music with: ron jarzombek (guitarist here), and his brother, bobby jarzombek (drummer), an interview about bobby jarzombek here: www.ragazzi-music.de/jarzombekbobby.html. Rick Colaluca (The drummer here) cites jarzombek brothers as gifted musicians. And they are for sure.
Holy fuck... this is awesome. The kings are back in business!!! I can't wait for the entire album. But, until then, I'm enjoying this unbelievable EP. Fucking awesome!!!
I heard that if you transcribe the chords on this EP into ASCII code and lay them out sequentially, then interpret them as nodes on the internet, open them all up simultaneously using TOR, you'll crash the world economy and topple the illuminati.
Me like, one of the original pushers of the old envelope.........Control & Resistance still pops my socks off. I like the way Alan sounds on this as well.

Ron Jarzombek & Watchtower je kiff depuis leur premier album qui date c'est vraiment excellent puis après j'adore son autre groupe blotted sciences qui est génial
Listening to this will give people a degree in mathematics.
And music theory
Even history, though I'm much more into math and music.
As well as listening to Spastic Inc will give people a degree in Computing
more like a degree in carpentry as I make my guitar collection into coffee tables
OK, I listened to it. Now I will wait for the degree to be mailed.
Ron Jarzombek is a beast in this one, the most unappreciated guitarist in the metal genre.
he is killing even marty friedman and marty is great!!!
I'm not sure that he is - every bad-ass guitarist I know is into him.
Agreed; Jarzombek is the most underrated guitarist/composer/musician of this genre and decade!
SeekNTruth I would say Ron and Andy Larocque from King Diamond are the most underrated guitar players in Metal
Darth Vader King Diamond its wide know out there what u talking about? On his genre its the almighty and also his musicians
Listening to this while solving differential equations.
I swear Ron is like King Midas. Everything he touches turns to gold.
This is absolutely phenomenal, brilliant album!
I'm a longtime Watchtower fan.
I even got a letter from their bassist, Doug Keyser along with newspaper clippings when I ordered a tape from them back in the 90s. The more I listen to this, the more I love it! I especially love the song Mathematica Calculis!

This is the reason I learned Music Theory. Thanks for coming back Watchtower!!!
I've been a fan of Jarzombek for almost 15 years and I'm hearing this album for the first time. Gods of prog, please forgive me for my sins.

We couldn't care less about "likes". If you want to show us how much you "like" the EP, buy it.

Man, there's some GOLD in here..... long live the Jarzombek brothers! Can't stop replaying 23:09! That bass tone is SICK.
Rick Colaluca on drums, not Bobby Jarzombek.

Ron Jarzombek is one of the greatest composers !
Doug Keyser is an underrated bass god
3:11-3:17 that drum fill is just insane!!!And the rest of the album, too.Criminally underrated is an understatement for this band.

I also love a thrash/power metal mix

man rick c is a really great drummer maybe one of the best imo too bad he doesn't get more recognition
Ron Jarzombek is the man
I’m just happy to see 100k views here.

One of the godfathers in progressive metal, nice release this late in the game!
PLS WATCHTOWER! WE NEED A FULL ALBUM!
WOW. This is SO wild! I just happened upon this by fluke and I'm so damn ecstatic I did! This needs to be promoted so much more!
This EP is such a monster. I hope there is more to come.
Tight, and totally sick \m/, great to have them back! Love the Spastic Ink and Blotted Science material as well! Jarzo is a shredding god
Got the CD today. Great stuff! I want a full album!
I wonder a guitar jam between Ron and Guthrie Govan in one of these 12 tone tunes...How would that be?🤔...As I also wonder a collab with AAL
Holy shit!!! Maths and Metal! YOU CANNOT ask for more!! It sounds amazing
unbelievable I came across this is still have control and resistance on cassette in perfect condition
will you trade for second album of slipknot on CDR ?
The Tech Masters return.
Alan Tecchio sounds a bit like Kip Winger in this EP. Definitely a much better vocal performance than in Control and Resistance.
This popped up in my suggestions...how can even anyone like these guys even begin to play crazy shit like this...I bought the CD on eBay today...:)
OMFG i've been waiting so long for this, now i just need the new Necrophagist album then i can die in piece.
I'm not a mathematician, but interested in. Watchtower? Never heard before. But from my former life, I knew Gentle Giant, and your music sounds similiar, that means: magnificent!
For me watchtower sounds like zappa at apostrophe at 1.75x and crazier.
Look at Ron’s other projects, namely Blotted Science and his solo work. Blotted science is interesting because much of, if not all of the music is actually scored to film.
this is like, after hearing that a friend from high school died, then you learn he is in fact not only alive and well but also kicking ass...
Im hopefully waiting for the book two

I've never stopped being a Watchtower fan. Saw them at Traxx and Woodlawn Theater...greatness...
Bad ass stuff again, didn't expect anything else really. Watchtower, Spastic Ink, Blotted Science, it's all brilliant
love this guitar tone, raw and cutting !
We need a full album of this Mathematic Metal.
I knew about "The Size of the Matter," but I didn't know about this whole EP!!! Thank you!!!!!
The riff at 8:34 was in a clip of Ron playing ages ago, I think leading up to Machinations of Dementia. Can't believe it's finally part of something!
I remember the clip you're talking about. I thought to myself "shit, I want to hear the full song!" - and here it is. Amazing.

Controlled by Confusion, Confused by Control!Excellence at last...
"Controlled by Confusion, Confused by ControI" same words are also used in the song "Mekong Delta - About Science".
The pale sun spits a slow death down
To this blinded mankind
While the wooden horse of science
Elevates a grey hell to the sky
So the little superbrains
Declare madness for sense
And fear, the mother of
All social violence
Eats tiny pieces of
Normal life as tribute for
General apathy
The blue moon pukes compassion over
A world of concrete emotion
Researchers found some new lines
In their hymbooks and they read
So the little superbrains
Confused by their control
Now will this be the end
Or be the new way
Final death - we will see
The future of - can it be
Look into my eyes
Controlled by confusion
Confused by control
They feel like magicians
In our tortured world
Science now - the unstoppable
Weapon of - masterminds
Sacrificed - all the knowledge of
Normal life - to their cause
Science
So the little superbrains
Declare madness for sense
And fear, the mother of
All social violence
Eats tiny pieces of
Normal life as tribute for
General apathy
One last experiment
Gives us a second sight
Too late the mirror of
All that's be done in fright
Is slowly steamed up by
One more network of lies
Losing all control
Controlled by confusion
Confused by control
They feel like magicians
In our tortured world
Controlled by confusion
Confusion...

One of my favorite bands EVER!
Vaya un álbum muy Versátil, Dinámico Técnico - Progresivo... Excelente
Whoa! I was talking to friends about seeing these guys at the Ritz in Austin in 85 and 86. Still shreddin.
I have met the drummer. He is so cool and way under rated ....I've been a fan since 87'
Amazing! "The Size of The Matter" reminds me of DBC Universe! Long Live Progressive Metal
We need a new Record by this outstanding Band
Ok, I've got exams coming and I'm not getting it. Where does it sing about total derivatives?
Me like, one of the original pushers of the old envelope.........Control & Resistance still pops my socks off. I like the way Alan sounds on this as well.
Unironically, a true challenge for this band would be to come up with a romantic ballad.
Ron is amazing!.
I used to listen to Cynic, Atheist, Fates Warning and Watchtower are one of my favorite in my list!
Holy shit !!! I had no idea this was out !!! 🤓🤘🏽❤️
U know this records so good I could listen too front and back so many times yes it a masterpiece
Many people might disagree, but i think this IS Watchtower!
Ask a Jehovah witness about it!
Wow, obvious virtuosism. Loving the mind set.
