'Lady Di' was the nickname Whitney have Diana Ross. Whitney revealed a deep respect for Diana and frequently paid homage to Ms. Ross, showed up to her shows, gave her full scale musical tributes and presented special awards to her.
Diana being 20 years older, saw Whitney like one of her daughters, she nurtured Whitney and would reassure her she loved her and how talented she was. RIP Whitney. 🌸
It's true ! RIP nice, talented and unlucky Whitney
Really? So I guess I’m the only one who remembers how nasty she was to and about Miss Ross in the mid-1980’s??
@@dddddadadad1796 The truth is Whitney turned out to really admire, honor and respect Diana Ross very publicly. She showed it in big ways. She came to understand through maturity that Diana Ross was the one who really opened the door for her 👇

@@dddddadadad1796 You won't find a single video clip or legitimate written interview where Whitney is nasty towards diana. At all. You might find some made up quotes, but she never said them!
Diana is a beautiful lady!
It's a shame that both Whitney & Diana got far too few Grammy Awards. They both deserved at least 3 times more awards!
Diana was nominated again this year too.
Diana never won a Grammy. This lifetime achievement award is it. Whitney have won 6 Grammys. That's a lot, considering her self-inflicted downfall in the prime of her career. That said, she could've gotten more. But yes, Diana deserved some as well.
I believe Diana Ross was passed up on the Grammys just the Academy Award!! I maybe wrong but it seems that it goes deeper than what was told.
I love Diana Ross ! Thank you Franco !
you're welcome John
"GREAT WORDS, LOVE YOU DIANA ROSSOYALTY"...
Diana Ross also deserves and honorary Oscar since she was cheated out of the one she earned for "Lady Sings the Blues" along with all of her other extraordinary film work!
Yes yes yes Miss Ross!!!!
The Boss
Respect to Diana Ross for being so honest and admitting that she questioned whether she should have even attended this event, and confessing that she would not enjoy it. I understand she didn't really have much choice given she was receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award... As for thr others who attended such as Toni Braxton and Britney Spears 😫... just no, absolutely horrendous taste on their part.
nice reflection JD
Diana would not have missed the event for anything.. she loves attention. All that stuff she said is to protect her image from being accused of tastelessness
@@globalcitizenn She seemed pretty sincere when she said she wouldn't enjoy the the night, she didn't have to say that... it could have made her seem unappreciative of the organisers and attendees, but she was just being honest.
We can't deny that there is still some bitterness from Diana not winning a single Grammy award throughout her entire career, and now they gave her a lifetime achievement award? She probably was thinking, "is this some kind of a consolation award?". And I think that is why she came off like she was not taking this award seriously.
@@Gemini530 I really think she was just feeling incredibly sombre due to the fact that someone she knew had died in tragic circumstances. If she was underwhelmed by the offer of the award, I think she would have just declined it.
Well I can say without much of a doubt -- these awards are giving out to people who were selected to win!!!
I agree...
Could have given a special mention to Flo, Mary & Cindy.
Thanks for the vid...but you couldn't have left the part in where LL and Diana hug? Lol...sigh.
Initially, I had left it but then, for copyright reasons it was blocked all over the world and therefore, I had to cut almost the entire video!
❤❤❤❤❤❤love 😻🥰🥀❤️👍👸🥰🙏
Honestly, I think that Whitney's life was so tragic. Whitney had the voice for that R&B / Pop music and the beauty; however, growing up with that fire and brimstone mentality, concerning the Bible that was passed on to Black people, and they religiously live by it, hurt Whitney houston.
She just wanted to be really loved and accepted, but she had that in Robin. Thus, she got caught up trying to find what would make her happy through the wrong people, which includes Bobby Brown, Kim Burrell and others and that brought her the worst situations, but she brought that on herself.
I respect Diana because she always kept focused and knew what was really important, despite her glorious and long career. She also found the right people, despite the color and background.
Why did you put Kim Burrell into the "wrong people"?
@@Thegazelle1000 Kim Burrell is definitely in that group of wrong people, because she is a Bible thumping, demonizing so-called Christian who never really celebrated the authentic Whitney, who was gay.
Whitney wanted to fit into this heterosexual mold and rejected her one soulmate that has really nothing to do with sex, to try to fit into a Stereotypical "I'm one of you home girls" to try to legitimize her blackness. The one person who picked that up spoke about it was Mickey Howard.
When people can really love you for the real you without judgment, that's a true friend. She had that connection in Robin, who knew her as nippy; while the rest of the world knew her as Whitney. Whitney was always searching and going to people, who didn't really know her before when. Whitney wasn't a drug addict; she just used drugs to cope.
@@petebrowne9918 ok I understand your point of view. She said herself in the last interview with Oprah that she used drugs to cope with a lot of things (the pressure of the music industry and the media, her marriage, her miscarriages, the madness of her family and not just Robyn). One thing: she was bisexual though and not 100% gay, there's a difference between these two words😉.
@@Thegazelle1000 Whitney Houston lived a heterosexual life, but she denied her heart to do it, which was always with Robin. Those men never really made her happy. I'm not going to say that she necessarily was into women. What I am saying is that her true love and emotional connection was with a woman. I don't see her as truly bisexual. I think she should have followed her heart and made honest decisions, because being dishonest with yourself means that you're always dishonest with everyone else. Therefore, she would never find happiness. Maybe it shouldn't be defined as being gay, or maybe she identified with the maleness in Robin, because who knows how she defines herself on the inside. Nevertheless, I always saw her as gay for Robin.
@@petebrowne9918 "These men never really made her happy" ...I agree with you, but not because they were men, but because they didn't treat her well. Shd had bad taste in men and she always choose the wrong one. She might love Robyn, but she was attracted by men too and she loved sex and that's make her bisexual. We can agree to disagree. Robyn was someone who she could trust, R didn't judge her and wasn't a leech like other people around her, Whitney knew that Robyn really care about her. Her relationship with Robyn was more than sex, they had a special bond. Even Robyn said that Whitney was attracted by dark skin men. Who are we to disagree with Robyn who is the person who knew her better than us?
The spotlight was not on Diana anymore. That's how you know a legend has passed away when the spotlight shifts to you even when you're dead!!
Clive Davis didn't cancel that event, and nor did the academy - the same one that awarded Whitney hers. Diana Ross was up there, because it was her moment. Those singers that honored Diana Ross didn't pull out of the event.
Just because people acknowledged Whitney's death, doesn't mean that Diana Ross should not be honored. Whitney chose that lifestyle, and that lifestyle served her in that awful way. People were talking about it because it was so tragic and really a damn shame that the way she died.
@@petebrowne9918 amen. Well said!!!
She didn’t say anything about Whitney in her speech…
She was sad but I get it. She came out way before Whitney and it could of stole that lifetime award moment. Whitney knows up there that they were good friends.
@@MrRickyMoody Diana has always been a shady insecure person, just ask Patti Labelle what she put them through. I’m sure she was more upset that her moment was taken away, than the fact that her “friend” just passed
She had already said in the beginning when she entered the auditorium that she was sad because Whitney had passed on it was going to be somberly evening... But leave it to junkie Whitney and her raggedy fans... Had to go and rain on Diana Ross parade... But that was many years ago and Ms Diana Ross still here now kicking it 2021 22 and hopefully forever.... Sorry to say as for Whitney please send her some water as Nelly said it best it's getting hot in here.. you get the message b****s
YOU DON'T RUIN THE MAGIC OF THE MUSICAL TALENT THAT IS STILL HERE.. ENJOYING THE NIGHT. DIANA SAID ENOUGH WHEN INTERVIEWED.. AND HER FACE SHOWED PAIN. YOU CAN'T SPREAD THE PAIN INTO A GRAMMY PANDEMIC HONEY. WE ALL MISS WHITNEY
BUT FATE IS FATE 😘RIP WHITNEY 💜
@@anubisjohnson4568 Diana has always been a jealous conniving person. It’s not surprising that she wouldn’t take it upon herself to mention Whitney in her speech.
Diana was jealous of Whitney because Di used to be the "prettiest" black girl who attracted the masses. When Whitney came into the scene, she was not only better looking, but she was also a better singer than Di. Whitney was the first black princess of America. While Di proffered white men, Whitney stayed with her roots and married the typical black guy from the hood-BB.
Yes…to her detriment! Whitney is hands down a better singer but with all of her monumental success, she didn’t have as many #1’s as the Supremes (not including Ross’s solo hits)! Study your history. Whitney has even acknowledged the doors Ross opened for her and even those BEFORE her. Diana is the true trailblazer. KNOW IT!!
@@motownbaby none of that was the point . The point was that Di was jelly of Whit. 🤣
@@motownbaby I love Whitney for what Whitney can sing well, but she cannot sing what Diana can sing really well, or none of them other over-singing black artists. For example, show tunes, jazz and blues, and pure adult contemporary love songs, as well as certain R&B/pop tunes. I have heard people sing Diana Ross’s songs and never out sing her. Even when Diana Ross sung ‘Home’ from the Wiz, I like everybody’s version, Whitney, Diana, and Stephanie (and no not Barbara's); however, when Diana sung that line starting from ‘A world full of love, like yours like mine, like home’, Whitney, Stephanie, or no other singer till this day sounded better than Diana.
@@user-nt5pm7cp4q Why would Diana be jealous of someone who did not stop her career, especially overseas, and her record in those places, and even in the U.S. to some degree. Just because Whiney was successful does not mean Diana cannot be successful. Whitney would sing Diana’s songs in her concert. Diana hired Whitney’s mom on her songs when Whitney was singing too, so what you are saying makes no sense. All black people are not like that.
You are not only ghetto but ignorant. Diana Ross has supported and help promote people's careers like the Jones Sisters and helped them with their getting started solo when they sung background vocals for her, as well as other black artists like the Devastating Affair, the Eddie Kendrick singers and others when they sing for her. She used black artists in her background all the time, including Cissy Houston and Luther Vandross.
