How dope is this? The RZA showing love to The Purple One? This was the tribute I didn't know I needed! It don't get no better than this. I can die happy now. 🙏
This is crazy. Because, Hiphop scared Prince when it became massive. He embraced it eventually through groups like Public Enemy. So its fitting that Wu Tang RZA a leader toast him in his State.
I don’t know if hip hop scared Prince. I know he didn’t respect it initially as a true genre because “there’s no musicianship”. Once he saw it wasn’t going anywhere he embraced it. First signs of him embracing it was “Housequake”
@@maxwell_proper What you mean it wasn't going no where? Hiphop culture lasted years and counting. Prince was arrogant sometimes. Their was a lot of musicianship. A lot of the PRODUCERS wete DJs. They have vast vocabulary in music. You don't have to play instruments to understand the depth of great music. He even inquired how is Dr.Dre mixing his records. He wanted the sound of the production. The problem was Hiphop was seen as a fad. But, 50yrs later its still captivating the world. Captivating the world imagination with the fashion, the dance and Artists Penetrating the so called mainstream and their bias ways.
@@garfieldharrison510 Get over yourself and get off the soapbox. HipHop wasn’t accepted by MANY R&B and Jazz artists in the early 80s. Don Cornelius the creator and host of Soul Train refused to let rappers on for a long time. The nay sayers came to accept the genre later on. Bruh, you have me weak righting a full paragraph. Hahaha
@@maxwell_proper Nah I think he embraced it earlier than that, in the 1999 era, with the B-Side "Irresistible Bitch", and also with the rap at the end of "Let's Pretend We're Married" which goes: "Haven't u heard about me/it's true/I change the rules and do what I wanna do/I'm in love with God/cuz that's the only way/cuz you and I/know we gotta die someday/U think I'm crazy/U probably right/but I'm gonna have fun/every muthafuckin' night/if you like to fight/u're a double-drag fool/I'm going to another life/how about you?" Then, I think the first time he full-on embraced making a rap song, was on The Black Album, with "Dead On it" (even though it was a rap song criticizing the genre of rap and rappers. As far as "Housequake", I never really thought of it as embodying any elements of rap, but I guess when I think about it, he is kind of rapping those verses, plus, i guess that bass drum beat is very hip-hop influenced. Still, I just always thought of it as a straight-up hard-funk James Brown-esque number.

Yep! I know those songs you referenced very well. I don’t think those two songs were inspired by hiphop though. Great point though
