  • This video was shot at the 12th Street grade crossing in New Hyde Park, Long Island, NY
After an early dinner, me, Adam, Scott and Mike all headed over to New Hyde Park for a few trains, not knowing that we would see at least 6 trains, including 2 LIRR switchers pulling a FRA Inspection Train
    Crossing Info:
Signal #1: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch LED lights. A Safetran gate motor and a WC Hayes mechanical bell.
Signal #2: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch LED lights. A Safetran gate motor and a WC Hayes mechanical bell.
Signal #3: 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch LED lights and a WC Hayes gate motor
Signal #4: 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch LED lights and a WC Hayes gate motor
The bells at this crossing ring from startup to shutdown, most likely due to the station being so close to the crossing.
    Enjoy!!!

I grew up here ( b.1947 Bronx) circa 1954 - 1963. Dad worked Mad. Advert, so in 63' they moved to the upper west side. In music bus. In L.A. since '78, ret. from professional bass playing, 2002.
Never ever forgot going to my very first MRR show, the Nassau Model Railroad club on Hillside Ave. circa '56. The club reeked of cinnamon which they'd sprinkled all over the mountains. since then everytime I smell cinnamon I see the club in my mind ! And every train club I've gone to since always seems to be lacking this odor !!
We lived on Laurel Dr. 2 blocks east of NHP Road..
I guess the vid is shot at NHP road crossing. Yet it looks a tad too narrow to be... M

Actually, the bell pattern would be from start-up until the gates rise. Pretty fast flash rate for the lights as well.

I am usually an EBell buff but man those mechanical bells sound good here. Was that guy asking you why you were taking pictures bothered by it or just curious? He seemed a little bothered by the tone of his voice.

RIP LIRR main line crossings. But it is good that noise pollution has been significantly reduced since the crossings were eliminated. I bet the homeowners along the main line corridor appreciate that the train horns are gone.

Yea i know, takes the fun outta this line. Well they do but they opposed alot of the project, such as the taller poles for the line
