You gotta remember ... Glenn Miller was the "rock and roll" of that era only it just wasn't CALLED that... Brian and 'da Boyz ( and Galz ) just move the needle forward a generation ... and it still comes out sounding GREAT!

Heck, I love the original version too but it's gotta say something that a new arrangement can swing SEVENTY YEARS later! If the Major's up there listening I don't think he'd be too upset. (Well, maybe the tattoos would be too far over the edge..)
Agreed a great modern 'RIFF' on stuff that was great then and still is now. We need to be appreciative, because, I guarantee, no one shows up to hear old guys play this stuff...because I am an old guy playing this stuff and no one shows up...lol!
It's fair game to organize a band to play the song as it was 80 years ago (Glenn Miller Orchestra), but also to update and modernize the song. I rather like this version despite being a big devotee of 30s and 40s Big Band Swing.
@@demef758 Absolutely. Knowing what I do about how Miller kept reworking both his civilian and AAF orchestras and what he’d contemplated for the post-war scene, I doubt a 1950 or a 1965 Glenn Miller Orchestra would have sounded much like the ‘41 edition. At the risk of offending devotees of Benny Goodman - who I revere almost as much as Miller - IMHO he held himself back by never letting go of his early successes. A guy who knew him in the 1960s and 70s told me it seemed Benny was always hoping he could bring back 1938.
What can you say, if one is a fan...but where is the classic riff? I ask? Tossed aside for the soprano riffing...what bugs me is we throw in the after hours jump, (2 o'clock, King James version) such a classic, which is great...but I would love to have a beer with Brian Setzer to find out why he tosses the original crazy 'pre' shout chorus... maybe the first 'riff' and greatest of all time! Ah well, shouldn't complain, all said and done this is pretty teriffic...

My Dad, Jerry Gray wrote the music for Glenn Miller. But I love this version! Great Job!
Awesome
This shows the absolute brilliance of Mr Setzer....to be able to bridge music....from different ages....fabulous...
Agreed. It also makes me wonder what Mr. Miller might think of it....
@@demef758 Major Miller and 'da Boyz would be givng Brian a standing ovation!
Bridge the music? In my opinion, he blew up the bridge.

I was fortunate enough to see BSO in Medford Oregon a few years ago. They blew the roof off the place.
