Dude, he is playing a very generic rhythm technique and he casually hit a similar chord progression, that doesn't mean that Josh stole that riff from John, and if he did, i don't care, I love goodbye angels 🛐 at the end of the day is just sounds 😄
I'm so glad I found this! I was just saying to my husband yesterday that the guitar after the bridge sounds like a bass lick. It's my favorite part of the song!
This guitar playing style inspired other songwriters like Thom Yorke when he composed the riff from Reckoner, which is very beautiful. And I hear it here and there sometimes like on the track Roulette by SOAD (but I'm not sure if the guitarist was really inspired by John's style).
@dupoland34567 I believe he says "I came up with the groove at Big Sur". Big Sur is a sparsely populated region of the central California coast where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean, it's a popular tourist destination. Anthony mentions it in the book Scar Tissue at one point. Hope this helps!
After looking at these interviews, I can definitely make the assumption/conclusion that John and Anthony are the most alike, Anthony speaks very reflectively and intelligently as does John.
Anthony is a bit more self-absorbed and "showy" with his words if that makes sense. I feel like he often says what sounds good instead of the real genuine truth, to get a reaction or something - almost pretending to sound profound when he really isn't. John's a lot more sincere and speaks from the heart I think.
It's probably why they tend to get have more tension. They obviously love each other, but all the problems in the band are basically when those two butt heads.
@@tatiana_a This is really insightful. And makes a lot of sense-of course the lead singer is going to be more showy and attention-seeking, why couldn't I put this to words before? Thanks
@juneda33 did you see a dutch connection? It's obviously a dutch documentairy but you should be able to find english subs for it, really loved it, i'd say every RHCP should see it
Are there videos for snow (hey oh) and dani California? I bought it on iTunes so I only have the audio... If I had known there were videos, i'd have bought the special edition. Arggg!
@MatthijsDeLijpe no i havent seen that but last night i watched funky monks :D i loved it but it was too short haha. so u dont know what these clips are from? i would really like to see all the commentaries.
Its the two note melody thing that john does, which he explains in the video. But if you listen to the notes he's playing, the majority of them are found in their version of Havana Affair, and if you were to strum them it'd nearly be an exact match. Best example of him doing this is probably untitled 2 :)
I'd SO much rather be in the Chad/John room than the Anthony/Flea room. You've got the true hearts, lets-have-a-good-time-and-smile-at-each-other vibe, vs. the hear-how-pretentious-i-am and we've-only-been-competing-against-each-other-for-20-years-in-the-same-band-and-still-doin-it, were-so-serious vibe. Its a no brainer, really.
I know you left this comment a long ass time ago, but I don't know what on earth you were talking about. Anthony and Flea are in no way competing, they've been best friends since way before the band and they're impossible to compare since what they each do is so different. They were literally joking about potatoes, I don't know how that seems pretentious.
"It was Thanksgiving day, my sister and Gavin were making Christmas dinner"
hahahahahaha
1:10 "goodbye angels" (the gateway )
Fr

Omg literally
"jesus guys, fuck the potatoes"
"Did you end up having the potatoes?"
" They ended up being...good"
LOL.
I'm so glad I found this! I was just saying to my husband yesterday that the guitar after the bridge sounds like a bass lick. It's my favorite part of the song!
Instead of "Hard to Concentrate," this song could have been called, "Jesus Christ, Fuck the Potatoes."
I've been listening to Stadium Arcadium for 4 years now, and my favourites keep changing, Hard to Concentrate is my fave at the moment

I've heard that Reckoner is actually inspired by Scar Tissue which make a perfect sense when you listen to the guitar on both tracks
"He said to me that he had written that... to write something... in the style of John"
Classic
@dupoland34567

I'M IN LOVE WITH ANTHONY'S VOICE... ALSO WHEN HE IS JUST TALKING!
I just love this song, and love these guys.
hahah, " it was christmas...no thanks giving day, my sister and gavin were cooking christmas dinner" xD
flea just had a moment :D
aww its real nice to hear how normal their familes are with them when there these great big rock stars .... x))
I love this song!
Lmao Flea said it was Christmas then corrected himself saying thanksgiving then said Christmas dinner right after. Classic
Haha! That's great
I’ll remember this song every thanksgiving during Christmas dinner eating potatoes.
Gavin must have found it hard to concentrate on Flea's bassline while trying to get the potatoes prepared.
They're Flea,Josh,Chad and Anthony, they seem all like such a cool great guys.
That is correct.
1:09 is that a sneaky version of Havana Affair? ;) I love this man!
My God! The resonance on that strat is unbelievable!
it sounds like any strat. he's strumming hard, and there's more string buzz than anything.

@juneda33 this is off of the Deluxe edition of Stadium Arcadium. :) You can get it off of Amazon. Com :)
dude that thing john plays at 1:09 deserves its own song!!!! but he probably forgot it so ummm omg i just "wrote" an amazing intro!!!! lol
came up with the groove at big sur
Where is that lick John plays from?
Sternatticus he just made it up on the spot, picking two notes far apart from each other then moving it up and down the neck
@MatthijsDeLijpe no i havent seen that but last night i watched funky monks :D i loved it but it was too short haha. so u dont know what these clips are from? i would really like to see all the commentaries.
@carliarce I'm pretty sure it is
some days it's f'ing hard to consentrate brah.. yeah..
did they do commentary on 'torture me'. i've been lookin everywhere for it. think someone can post that one please?
As someone with ADHD, I highly relate to this songs title lmao
@sedagl, it's not slow cheetah, it's just something he came up with on the spot

“So did you end up having the potatoes?”
LOL I love Flea! "Fuck the potatoes!!
He told it was inspired from Jane's Addiction.
...and from the masses of Cd's (anthony/flea) and guitars (chad/frusciante) in the background...
hah it's veryy nice song-great tune, good song and lyrics

holy one, ahaha
id listen to john play an electric guitar even if its not plugged in..
Potatoes ended good
"Jesus Christ, Fuck the potatoes!"
God i love Flea!
@PolishFaIcon Tomato tomato, who cares.
It actually kind of sounds like scar tissue
I like your way of perceiving things
but backwards
just a janes addiction-esque riff
Anthony Kiedis says Brah.... hmm. Didn't think he was the kind of guy. :D maybe he's just kidding around.
