I always thought 1d got very lucky ending up with Michael McIntyre as the other guest on this one. He seemed to know exactly where to jump in when tension started to build, especially with the Zayn question. You can sense the relief from the band at certain points where he took the attention off of them.
Yeah he was making everyone laugh but in truth it was an act of service towards the boys cause they clearly didn't wanna answer these questions, love him for doing that ;)
The official reason for Zayn's leaving was his mental health and I'm sure it was in some ways but just recently Zayn said in the interview that he left the band because he selfishly wanted to be the first to leave and make his own record. He saw - like he said - "certain people were doing certain things, certain people didn't want to sign contracts". So he knew the band was done at this point.
I mean, he still had health issues (if you doubt that, look how thin he was late 2014, how slow he moved, he was drinking a lot of water which is extremely common for ED) so I don't like the fact the you belittle that. He had other reasons, yes, and he can justify it without bringing it up again, because he already wrote about it in the book he published. i don't think it's neceserally something that he want to relive so of course he won't bring it back up again in 8 years later. But yes, Harry suggested the hiatus already, it's been known
I somehow thought they just had a big fight, Louis is clearly a little bitter and Harry's always tryna make light of it, which i'm sure is for the fans but i just had an inkling their was some tension between the three of them cause Niall and Liam always seem totally fine when the subject pops up
@@lillymsf5946 I mean, in his recent interview zayn said some people were trying to get out at that point, and from how he worded the answer it felt like it would have been their last tour/album anyway. Lou was bitter because they just had the Twitter fight (if I remember correctly), and Harry is always making jokes when he is uncomfortable, that's just how he copes with things. He was sad and didn't want it to show. But Niall and Liam were also sad, it shows more in other interviews where it was just the 4 of them.
@@andreak.5996 Call him Zebra, Ringo and paper work was the hardest are not jokes to me.. Again it's totally valid to defend your idols such as solo Harry or Zyan or Zarry .. He did changed his reasons and opinions of 1D all these years so good luck.

Comedian Michael McIntyre added a lot of lightness and humor to this interview and made it much more enjoyable for Harry, especially. The Jonathan Ross Show actually began with a segment between Jonathan and Michael discussing Zayne (there are signs everywhere saying 'don't mention Zayne'). It was nice that Liam was so relaxed and talkative in this interview. I loved the way Harry felt he could turn to Michael to take the pressure of dealing with the issue of Zayne and other intrusive questions.

Pretty sure for a while it was Harry. You can tell by on stage interactions. MITAM was definitely their best album. They didn't tour their last album. They did various shows and sang some of their new songs, such as Apple Music Festival, various talk shows, and the 1D thing with Corden.
They knew…they performed some of the AM songs live on different TV appearances. Louis was the one who thought they would get back together. He explains in his doco/movie, ‘All of these voices.’ That’s why it took him awhile to kick start his solo.
Zayn explained in a recent interview, he was competitive and he wanted to be the first to leave and release his own music. They were upset because he left mid tour.
This was great guys. This is by far my favorite interview with 1D. I’ve always thought Michael McIntyre kind of felt the need to jump in with the jokes to take the pressure off the boys when he saw fit and he did an excellent job of it. He’s hilarious anyway! Thanks so much for doing this. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

And these are the statistics:
2,095,000, Up All Night (2012)
2,043,000, Take Me Home (2012)
1,552,000, Midnight Memories (2013)

853,000, Made in the A.M. (2015)
So yeah Made in the A.M. did have a huge decline most it of it must be because of Zayn leaving and some because their sales were declining anyway. I waS surprised to see that their 1st album sold the most and then the sales kind of kept falling. Also their first 4 albums debuted at no. 1 on Billboard (they were the first band ever to do so) and the last album was no. 2. But that i think that is mostly because the competition was tough, Justin Bieber released his album 'Purpose' on the same day. In any other situation they would have easily debuted at no. 1. Kind of sad because it broke their no. 1 album streak.
Except this the album did have 2 singles that were no. 1 in UK and in the top 10 in the US. And honestly, this album is great !!! It is the most mature and is definitely one of the fan favourites.
P.S. when are guys going to react to Niall's new album ? I have really been looking forward to seeing your reactions

Louis was always the leader and the one the rest say they leaned on. Plus he was the one pushing for the band to stay together but just away from the control they were under.
the made in the am album , the last one they made is the best one, great songs, plus they all wrote lyrics for it; they never toured the album which is sad af but yeah, this album is amazing, it really couldve won a grammy. you guys should listen to it.
what i do know is that the day they will come back, the world will forget about the rest of the artist and bands and the internet will collapse. their come back will be huge.

Harry had asked for a break in 2014, they decided no (either convinced him not a good idea, or said one more album). Then Zayn suddenly left during the tour of Four.
The 4 of them then wrote and put out Made in the A.M. but announced there was no tour. Harry said at that point he was writing songs that seemed way to personal for 4 other guys to sing, so clearly he was wanting to find his own sound/band. And rest have done well since so it worked out!
The second half of that tour when Zayn left was a lot more high energy and there was like a rejuvenation of the band - they were a bit closed down and going through the motions before. They said in some interviews themselves that having to come together to make the tour work without him only made them better. So it's too bad they didn't tour the last album, but understandable with having gone non-stop for five years!
Zayn left for his mental health & eating disorder and plus he spoke of conversations behind closed doors of others signing contracts and leaving to pursue a solo career & I think Harry was that person. We were all in shock after Zayn left during the On the Road Again Tour but if you watch any of their old videos from that time he looked so unwell. Out of all the guys he enjoyed it the least in the band towards the end. This is why he makes music on his own terms now. I think being in 1D was a huge learning curve for them all but the expectation they'd stay together was never in the cards as music is based on the current trends for sales & quick profit. I think Zayn did them all a favour leaving as he did because its still such a hot topic to this day in which the other guys have benefited from in their own solo careers.
I see the ghost of One Direction will be following you until the day you die. Who knew I wielded such power :-)

Now that you figured out the timeline of it all happening I’m sure you can understand why we held onto them coming back for so long. I would have loved to see them tour that last album at the very least but it’s been too long now. Now I’m of the mind that they might do something together at some point but not get back together for a long term thing or if so it’ll be many years from now. They were awkward about some of those questions and Louis’ face about the joint was because a video was posted of him and Zayn lighting up a joint in a car. So when you know about that you understand his reaction and actions.
yes, but zayn and he had to take the fall for the whole thing. I wouldn't be surprised if this question was serving the purpose of "clensing" his image. Also I remember how mad Harry was the following concert at them cuz Zayn was singing Stockholm Syndrome in that clip (before the album was out)...it was a crazy time to be around 😅
They didn't tour MITAM but they sang songs from it at festivals and promo appearances.

It's so sad because Harry knew they weren't coming back and knew for almost a year before that he was going to continue solo, (and the rest of the boys, especially Louis, thought it was really a break!) and yet he confirmed that They come back! I wish they told us... i mean, we deserved a goodbye 😭😭😭
Zayn left end of March 2015. "hiatus" began 2016, the four finished up the tour they were on and any promo work for MITAM end of 2015. The performed "some" songs from it as they finished up, but never toured it.
In a recent interview, Zayn revealed that while the guys were making/promoting/touring FOUR, a lot of the guys started diverging in terms of their style and then there were talks about not wanting to sign certain contracts. Basically it was becoming evident that the band was going to come to an end and he wanted to get ahead of it and release his music before the others could to avoid competition. I definitely agree that the way he left was a little abrupt but he definitely did what was best for his career. There was always speculations that the break was Harry's idea that the rest of them agreed on and I think he is the one that Zayn was referring to when he said that "some people didn't want to sign contracts" considering that Harry had a separate stylist and management team by late 2014. At the point of when the interview happened, I think Harry was more upset at the fact that he wasn't the first one to leave because it really looks like he in the works of it while Zayn just went for it.

Zayn left in the middle of the Tour for Album Four. The remaining four of them finished the tour they were doing for Four. It was a Long Tour. Zayn left when they had done only one Leg of America at that Time. After Zayn they Finished the Tour and Recorded their Last Album Made in the A.M and went on the Break. They didn't Tour Made In The A.M 😞

I felt they were worked way to hard, 4 world tours in 4 years. They should have had more time off to just and breath.
This interview was in 2015. Louis's mother passed in 2016.
In recent years, especially the early years after the band broke up, most people believed that the band broke up because zayn left! But we now know that the story was exactly the opposite, zayn left because he realized that band was coming to an end! In fact, in all these years, the person who received hatred from the public for being selfish and disrupting the group was zayn! While he was not the one who had this intention! That person was another member of the band who had planned this for a long time! It always saddens me that zayn received hate and his public image was ruined when he didn't deserve it! (In fact, none of them deserve to be hated for this reason because they are human beings with the right to make their own decisions!)
Plus, he was the one who suffered the most in the band…
But yeah anyway this was the best thing for all of them! Because clearly all of them were under a lot of pressure and suffering (Liam said in an interview that one direction’s bodyguard had to go to therapy because of being one direction’s bodyguard, so imagine this for those young boys!! It's painful!) I mean… 5 albums and 4 world tours in just 5 years! ( with also with too much control over their personal lives!) that is INSANE! Poor them 💔

Zayn left after the 16th show of the tour, in the middle of the Asian leg, going to the sixth country of the tour that started in February. He left in March. The entire tour has 77 shows that ran until October. It wasn't even mid-tour when he left. So I can understand the abandonment issue there. Nobody wanted to talk about it then.
FOUR era was the only era where they toured South East Asia it was a big tour. Zayn left the day before the Manila leg. Which i attended.
Harry was the closest to Zayn in the band, so the distance hurt more for both of them (including, knowing that Zayn was tired of some situations in the band, they say that Harry intended to leave with him, and everyone knows that by 2014 Harry asked the band for a break, to help Zayn recover, and they finished the tour together and then finally the two of them left, but the others didn't agree with the break! so Zayn couldn't take it and left early)
..Some people think it's Louis because Zayn went to clubs with him, but Zayn himself at the time of the band said 'that Harry was his rock, that they spent the night talking to each other, that he told Harry things that I never told anyone'. That's why they don't usually talk much about each other, because they had a deep relationship, so Zayn, in order to not have to talk much about it after he left the band, even pretended that they weren't close, but everyone knows that's a lie, that They were super close on stage and even more so off it, as he himself had assumed before. That's why Harry didn't say anything, his friendship with Zayn went beyond the stage/clubs, it must have hurt these two a lot more (as we can see to this day).

They had clause in their contracts that they couldn't do certain things, and certainly couldn't admit them publicly. And like with the other questions, Michael jumped in to help, he knew they couldn't answer and explained it to the audience.
Louis and Harry obviously wrote the song "Perfect" about each other ! It had nothing to do with Taylor. Louis would NEVER have participated in a song about her.
