@@troysmith3082 I hear you. I preferred the Lister and Rimmer double act to the Lister and Kryten double act that the show became. No offence to the actor but I never liked how Kryten changed the balance (it also marginalised Holly). But saying that, I find series 3 to 5 my favourites.
We have a low-rent Gandalf the fluorescent with a stop sign telling metal beasts 'You Shall Not Pass!' to help the little hobbits get from the Shire to Mordor
As an American who loves British TV, it took me years to figure out what a lollipop man is. I don’t know why they bring it up so much either. I used to think it was a euphemism for a pedo.
And we have them in the US. We just call them crossing guards instead of using a weird indirect euphemism about how their signs are vaguely shaped like a giant lollipop.
@@dunbar9finger I always assumed because it was meant to be fun and memorable for the kids to call them lollipop lady/man since they're mainly to keep school children safe but I never looked into it deeply XD
That was my first thought. It's clearly a street crossing guard, which is a much more professional title. I'm pretty confident that there aren't too many American men that would let you refer to them as a lollipop anything.
Yeah UK people think that just because we dont use the same indirect euphemism they made up for a thing that means we don't have that thing. We have crossing guards we just never decided to call them lollipop men based on the stop signs they carry kinda vaguely looking like a giant lollipop.
Lolipop men are weird, because we need people to ensure kids get to & from, school across roads..... What.... How much of a simplton does someone have to be to call that weird & actually not be able to grasp the super basic logic in it...
We call them crossing guards and they hold a stop sign. We would never call the stop sign a lollipop here in the US. I think it's just a matter of using different words. For the person asking why thought of a man standing in the street holding an actual candy lollipop, which doesn't make any sense as to why.
He used to be so funny. But like francie Boyle he decided to just talk down to the British public after a while. Happens to most "ordinary life is funny" comedians

Red Dwarfs S1-2 was the best.

Saw him in Denver for that tour!!!
"that does sound like something you might cook with"

God i didnt even realise that was Mel B until she started talking about being married 20 years ago

Why are so many americans upset that he didnt acknowledge american "crossing guards". Its a joke, jeez!
Why doesn't Russ just simply say:
"We get old people to stand in the road with a stop sign so kids don't get run over! You call them crossing guards."
because that's not funny
If an American doesn't know what a lollipop person is, why do you assume a Brit knows what a crossing guard is?
Well because most of us don’t use crossing guards and won’t know what it means then ,think about what ur typing 😂
I was at the RESPITE Cardiff show ✌
Ok
TIL English people don't know America has crossing guards. They also carry stop signs to stop traffic, they're just not called "lollipop men".
Here in Denmark, pupils in the older classes do the lollipopping/being a crossing guard with a teacher supervising them.
