Only talent/skill won't cut it. You need experience too. So, they must've done their act for a long time as well, or at least long enough for them to be confident on improvising on the spot.
Exactly. It's just like comedy improv. Nobody is great at it right away. Well, except Robin Williams maybe. Mortals have to learn to be comfortable with the fear that comes with venturing into the unknown. @@joshuaamadeusishak1887

I was there in person at the auditions and it was incredible to see live! They also sang a second mash up, which was incredible and really showcased their talent because Lily picked a super weird song for that one. And yet they made it work beautifully with the other song that was chosen. It wasn't scripted, these guys truly did improvise.

I think it would be fair to do it that way and not make it obvious they had the lyrics.

The guys sing from memory.
Yes, musicians, and especially people who are dueling pianos players have to have an absolute ton of things in their memory at instant recall, because they get requests all night long it's how they make their living. Just like you know certain things to do your job, they know tons of lyrics and songs because it's their job… And obviously these guys take their job very seriously! My husband and I are both musicians and recognize this kind of talent as the real deal. One of the comments I've read says one of the guys was a musical theater Director, at a school. So they've had a ton of exposure through different jobs to all of these songs. Quite genius and very entertaining. I would just like to hear the second song they did. Plus any others… They could go really far in a competition like this. And it would absolutely be an act one would want to go see while you were in Las Vegas or someplace else. Or catch them on a tour

Congratulations to you both! Donovan has been great at piano since junior high and in High-school as well. He entertained through live stream all through covid and takes requests and knocks them out of the park constantly. I can’t wait to see more!

That's incredible talent! Firstly to be confident enough that they will know the song choice, the words, but to play like this without any agreement on who sings which part, then overlap the lines... outstanding ❤
Think about the impossibility of getting all those things to work on the spur of the moment. Then you will realize that this performance was planned and practiced ahead of time. 😄

It sounded so perfect that it didn't seem like it was improvised, Amazing.
But, it might not be that hard with many experiences on their belts. If they know a lot of songs and experimented with many mash ups even the most unexpected/weirdest one, this is just child's play to them.

The best part is that they freestyle and that is the best you preformace you can do as there really is no mistakes when you free style

That was great. A really unique combination of two very different songs. So much fun.
What's funny is that while this one is random suggestions and mashing up, go check out The Axis of Awesome and their 4 Chord Song. Same premise, and actually starts out with Don't Stop Believing. They mash up about 20+ songs into one.
I was thinking that as well. They did that decades ago, and now there's some huckster on the internet becoming a millionaire selling a "teach you piano on 10 days" system based on their four chord demonstration songs. I'm sure they didn't "discover" it either, so it'd be hard to sue...

Just read someone is so convinced that these guys are not as talented off the cuff musically as they portrayed that they wrote It's obvious they pre planned it with the judges." They are so good people can't believe it. I'm a musician and have heard jam sessions. People are this good.

Both Don't Stop Believing and Let It Go are so called "4 chord songs". They are based on the same 4 chords progression. So of course they match.

It’s actually very simple. Those songs have the same three chords in common. They’re very talented.
They are great entertainers.
I can't wait to see the next live Mashup and I don't think I've ever watched something Canadian living here in the US.

Loved it dont stop was one of my favorite songs
I'm an entertainer at Old Faithful several years, competed in a talent show got beat out by a rock band. So many came and asked me to play songs like what Billy Joel lyrics in Piano Man 'Not really sure how it goes. But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete when I wore a younger man's clothes.
I know a lot of pieces classucs popular. I could not begin to do what they did. Amazing. I sent this to everyone.
