    Love the introduction of the breakdown into BVB music again, haven't really seen one since the small one in The Legacy or Youth and Whisky. I am a death metal and deathcore enthusiast and performer, yet contrary to most of those fans I've been listening to Black Veil Brides for years and you guys are very often underestimated by the rest of the metal scene because of your image or fanbase which is completely unjust for you guys. I've had a lot of fun seeing the progression of these riffs since We Stitch These Wounds; WSTW was more of a metalcore kind of thing, Set the World on Fire was more of a classic heavy metal (but CC's drumming DEFINITELY stepped things up and made it more hardcore), and Wretched and Divine kind of bordering on hard rock but with metal influences, but this is a metal masterpiece. Most new metal is either just completely breakdown-based and unoriginal or it's the same repetitive riff all over the place but this is the absolute inspiration for any future music I wish to create. The dark sound and progressive style is just amazing, keep it up you guys! Faithless is my favorite track of all time from Black Veil Brides, I am so stoked for the new album to prove all of the people who don't think you mean business in this industry wrong.
    PS: Stupid question, but please come to New Jersey again! I was there at Starland Ballroom to see you guys with Bullet For My Valentine last year but Andy got sick, great show but I was really looking forward to you guys. If you came back with more bands like that and Attila, I would just about have a heart attack.
    PPS: I don't suppose you guys would try incorporating a wall of death into any of your performances....... that would be the best concert of my life. I come to mosh.

      JakePittsBVB Could you just give us your general approach on how to make a mix sound good? And maybe some eq and tone tipps, those would be really useful.

    • @Ty13rlikespie
      @Ty13rlikespie 10 років тому +1

      Mixing would be cool. layering guitars and learning how to make certain parts of a song sound huge and/or soft when needed to. So basically it be cool if you could make a series or long video of mixing and mastering songs.

    • @Ty13rlikespie

      Sorry if thats a lot to ask for. XD

    • @JakePitts
      @JakePitts  10 років тому +48

      Tyler Pignatore I suppose I could try and figure something out. Really mixing is something that takes years of practice and experimenting to get good at. Not everything is EQ and compression, automation is a huge part of mixing, and bringing life and character to a song.
      As for tricks to get a nice kick sound, or fat guitar tone, sure I can do vids like that

    Watching these, and the behind the scene videos really made me notice the individual parts of each song more, like rather than just hearing as one solid piece, it's much easier to tune into each instrument and notice them a lot more.

    I'm a beginner guitarist. Do you have any tips for switching from different chords? I'm having a lot of trouble with this and my teacher is unamused with me

    • @JakePitts
      @JakePitts  10 років тому +47

      it takes time, you just have to memorize the chords and then practice. You've got to put in the time and train your fingers, hands, and memory.

    • @Greenday13ism
      @Greenday13ism 10 років тому

      Another thing I don't understand. Sorry if this sounds extremely stupid but my teacher gave me a guitar book and I have no idea if I play the notes on the staff or the chords at the top

    • @omnibus360
      @omnibus360 10 років тому

      Jennifer Sixx depends on the song a bit but usually the chords at the top are the implied or rhythm chords. So Jakes solo here would follow implied harmonies that I would imagine Jinxx may be playing. So Jake would play perhaps 4 or more notes which are part of an arpeggio and Jinxx would play the implied chord to make a mega fat and beasty sound :P really hard to explain without showing you:)

      What got me to do chord changes well (other than just time and practice) was continuing to move my right arm, even if my left hand wasn't in place. Just keep strumming and eventually, with practice, you'll get cleaner and cleaner.

    I've noticed that you play a lot/if not all of your solos on the neck pickup. Why is that, Jake?
    Another thing, for some of you guys that aren't guitarists: trying to explain a fast lick like he does is kind of hard sometimes because there is a lot of muscle memory when you're playing guitar. So sometimes you can't really explain what you're doing, but you can just play it. :P

    Loving the sound of the new album so far, the guitars have a real ballsy and hot feel to them, 2 questions,
    1. did you use the Schecter C1 for most of the album or did you go back and forth between different guitars say your mockingbird?
    2. what is the pick up in the neck position?

    • @JakePitts
      @JakePitts  10 років тому +3

      I used my C-1 for everything, and my Signature for all dive bomb stuff. I've used my C-1 on all records, even when I was with BC rich. I don't use them on anything. in my C-1 its EMG 81's in the bridge and neck

    hi there,
    I just wanted to tell you really quick how much I am enjoying these lessons! I just picked up guitar a few weeks ago and I find that these are more helpful and fun than trying to just learn basics and go from there. I had a brain tumor and after 13 surgeries and finally removing the tumor the doctors said I would never be able to do much with my hands. you and the other members of BVB are always talking about chasing your dreams and that is what I plan to do! thank you so much for the help again!!!!

    Great tutorial! I think it's very nice of you to take time to make these videos! Also, do you generally create a melody before the lyrics are written or do you first read them and then find a melody within the spirit of the song?

      Usually a melody comes first then lyrics

    How can I jump strings in the "0-00-6-00-3-5" part without stumbling? That's really hard. I tried watching it in slow motion and doing every pick stroke like he's doing. It's easy slowly, but when I try faster it's almost impossible not to stumble across the strings when doing this riff. Does anybody have any tip? Do I need to do any kind crazy pickslanting here? Could anybody give me some advice?

    Jake you are a phenomenal guitar player, and I've been a BVB fan since Set the World On Fire. Faithless is by far my favorite track of all time. In my personal opinion, and forgive me if I'm wrong, but when the percussion really kicks into the intro, it kinda has this Five Finger Death Punch feel to it. Heaviest track you guys have made to date, IMO. Great job. I'm expecting great things from BVB4.
    On a random note, I too am a Schecter fan. I own a Schecter SGR.
    Also, may I ask, what is it you like so much about the C-1? Just curious.

    What would you say is the best cheap schecter would be? I don't have much money and i'm sick of playing a vintage v6.

    Hey Jake, It is awesome to see you respond to fans comments here on YT which is sometimes a privilege most of us aren't offered by other You-tuber's out there. Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer fan questions. Kudos to you!
    P.S: Nice tone! That Kemper tone sounds really tight! Really nice, beefy rhythm tone you've got going there :) Do you use a booster pedal like a TS808 or a simulation of any sort built into the Kemper or is it just the tone from the amp?

    JakePittsBVB Could you make a video teaching how to shred for my friend? He's semi-new and all, and we're aspiring to a band, and he's having trouble learning to shred. Think you could make a video of like, tips, a certain kind of shred, anything to help? Thanks!
