  • Can we judge historical figures like Carl Jung for the more controversial aspects of their work and writings?
Assessing Jung's possible antisemitism is complex and requires a nuanced understanding of his historical context and personal relationships.
His involvement in psychoanalytic societies during the Nazi era has led to accusations of antisemitism, yet his actions and writings suggest an intimate, dynamic, and protective relationship with Jewish colleagues and theories.
Jung tried to shield Jewish analysts by leveraging his position, indicating his efforts to mitigate the impacts of Nazi policies on his Jewish colleagues.

    In my mind/opinion;
Jung was exactly the person he was suppose to be, in the exact way he was.

I think Jung saw Hitler, and other authoritarian leaders, as manifestations of the collective, not as an approval or legitimization of them, but as a reality of the collective human psyche. The best we can do to prevent these tragedies again is to be more aware of these darker impulses we have, not just as individuals, but also as groups.

There's an interesting interview online ("Scientist on Dictators", Time Magazine, Monday, Nov. 09, 1936) where Jung distinguishes between the "chieftain" type of dictator (Stalin, Mussolini, Roosevelt) who rule by force, and the "medicine man" type (Hitler) who act as mediums and practice "rule by revelation".
He then offers some comments on the old cycle theory of Anacyclosis.

No one should be 'canceled' without facing accusers through due process.

If we could all deal in truths, there would be no need for cancelation... not because there are no untruths in the world, but because when your strength is from within, you do not need to silence your enemies. And if we could deal in truths, we would know that the shackles of cancelation, are by design, to limit society to a preset of blinders put in place by Marxists in the education system, individuals who subvert al that is beautiful while projecting their own guilt and weakness over the entirety of the West... no other cultures are so riddled by guilt and self-hate, none are working as diligently to undermine themselves as the West... Cancel Jung at the great peril of the many who need him to understand their place in this world, as a result of the history that has brought them to the present.

Its hard not to get angered ,knowing there are really people trying to cancel jung. The amount of humans that have experienced ego deaths and completely flipped their lives around through practice of this man has givin us. There is a list of great men and women thar have changed the world for the better and givin hope to the lesser fortunate that wasnt able to learn as a child or young adult because of born into situations. This man changed my life which has affected many others in a positive way. I do not say this from an egotistical stance, but from feedback of my family and peers. Taking jung away would be like walking in the pouring rain without an umbrella. Silly it may seem to compare to some, and others will completely relate. I truly try and see from others perspectives in any situation, but canceling jung? It doesn't make any good sense and seems to me that someone is in dire need of attention because they have yet to experience enough life, enough seasons, or yet gained enough knowledge to make such a great decision about someone that is no longer here to defend themselves in person. Luckily he has many writings that tells how and what he may have done. I trust innyounguys to stand up and keep the conversation going as to why we musnt cancel him nor any other.

It’s such a difficult thing. I learned all about what had happened in Germany, Poland etc. during the war, at age 15. I was a catholic teenager attending a catholic high school in New York City. I became deeply depressed upon learning about these things through books I had discovered at the library. I was quite the serious young person and I became depressed over it for years. Later, I married a Jewish man and decided to convert to Judaism. My reasoning was that I did not want to be a part of a group that had participated in such a thing. I thought somehow that everyone should become jewish in protest. Anyway I was very young. The rabbi tried to discourage me but I was determined. As a person who does not “look” jewish, I have heard some ugly and astonishing remarks from certain, seemingly “nice” people. It is quite frightening that this sort of stupidity persists but it does and once again it is here. I am very interested in Jung’s teachings and from what I have read on the subject of his anti-semitism, so far, I am confused. As I imagine he was at the time. I don’t have a clue if someone like him would have been aware of the camps. I am 79 now and my heart is heavy when it comes as In wonder what is to come next.

Jung worked closely as an Allied spy with frequent meeting to Dulles at the OSS(CIA). He also noted some critiques of the Yewish people, many whom, like today, were advocating for a world wide Bolshevik style revolution. He said the Germans were possessed by Wotan.
From what I understand both parties weren’t thought of in a simplistic good bad paradigm and to me shows that Jung was someone who didn’t allow his free thinking to be limited and has only confirmed his intellectual honesty and depth.

I am huge fan of this podcast and I am Jew, AND and Israeli, which are two identities that are being attacked right know because of the war and various political reasons. Listening to the fact that people have a need to cancel someone who is already dead is beyond ridiculous. I am a huge fan of Jung’s work, and he brought such a beautiful mosque of spiritual, psychological, and sociological analysis of the human experience, that even if he was an anti semite, I honestly don’t care. There is so much good things to take away from his work. Especially holding the tension of the opposites, that a human being can be also be extremely objective and aware and yet extremely biased and projecting. I sort of got used to people projecting all evil on Jews, and I understand how people would use the most ancient abrahamic religion of the world as a scapegoat. Yet, the problem is the psychology of inferiority, superiority, projection, and not the people who are victim and unaware to this type of ignorance, once people will be aware of Jungs work, they will be more emotionally mature and less prone to be subjected to propaganda. Literally if the whole middle east would take a Jungian analysis there would be no wars here. So how can the problem be Jung? And how canceling him will help to solve anything?

I've spent five years digging as much as I possibly can on the story of Nag Hammadi and the effects it had on Jung- and the significance as well, especially the Tripartite Tractate.
Why is everyone so scared and filled with mounting fear about everything that these fear-mongering minorities have been doing since the beginning of time?
I never knew Jung suffered the last ten years of his life in a way I wouldn't wish on any living being.
The thought of canceling Jung has never even crossed my mind, and now I have come across your video and sigh.
The Vatican has thousands of scriptures from B.C. to early A.D. that no one has been allowed to look at. Private collections none of us know of.
I just don't see this cancellation of anything that threatens mainstream religion being able to go on.
    What a mind screw.

We don’t need to cancel Jung, but, we can stop idealizing him. He was not an enlightened spiritual teacher. He was an intelligent figure who have given a lot to the world of psychology, but nothing more. You can’t idealize a figure who thinks black people are not as advanced of white people cognitively. As far as we are not idealizing Jung, we are on the right track.
