years and years of listening to this and other beautiful songs by Paul Brady leave me grinning from ear to ear! Had the pleasure of seeing him perform this live in both 1977 as a boy and again in 2015. Pure joy.
he puts down a lot of it his decision in the 1990's to give up alcohol, as 'I wanted to reach my full potential, and I couldn't do that just limping along'. The quote (which stayed in my memory to this day) was taken from an interview in an Irish magazine.
Last October 2019 I bought tickets for myself and my brother (Xmas gift) to see Paul play with Andy Irvine in this exact venue, Vicar St for March 18th of this year. I have never had the pleasure of hearing him live. Ironically the country went into complete Lockdown that week of Paddy's Day and the gig, and the gig was re-scheduled for this month, September, and subsequently rescheduled again for next March. The live music industry has been decimated by this virus, and I miss it. I wish i went to more gigs when i could. I doubt somehow that Paul & Andy's gig will happen in March 2021 either, but I hope it does happen some day, when we "Temper the Edge" of this Covid-19... When that day comes i will sit in the audience, on my tiny stool, at the little round tables, with a Guinness in a plastic cup, and I will have the biggest smile on my face singing along with Paul to this :).
No hay versión ni ocasión en la que Paul no haga algo mágico y brillante con esta fantástica canción y magnífica historia que cala hondo en Irlanda... y en cualquier lugar del mundo. Eskerrik asko dear Paul !!
Magnificent,,,Brady is the youngest man in the room,,,with all the joy of a twelve year old,By the end the singer the song and the audience are all one,,,400 years defiance of the English recruiting sergeantI love the way he kicks the drummer boys drum,I love the Irish,,,they took the English language and made it their own,,,so now they have two languages,,,and the English have only a poor imitation of the real thing over the water
I’m proud to be related to this amazing musician! He’s my 3rd cousin (my grandmas cousin) and so what if you don’t believe me he’s related to me as I am to him and that’s that
If there is any singer where one can say definitively that is their song, l can say with certainty that Arthur Mc Bride is Paul Brady's song. By making that statement l am not ignoring the fact that there are excellent versions of the song out there.
What happened to the magnificent Yamaha Red Label FG180 Paul used to play? It had the most beautiful tone, as good as any golden era Martin. I hope it had an honourable retirement
it was Paul's solo performance during their reunion concert, Andy knew we were waiting to see Paul perform Arthur McBride on his own and gave him the stage completely. Andy also had his moments in the spotlight, he performed You Rambling Boys Of Pleasure on his own.
Irish equivalent to "Alice's Restaurant" and "American Pie" . . . . Love it: especially the improv sing-a-long, irish style. . . what ONE IDIOT gave a "thumbs down"?
@@NMae12 so, I have learned the lesson! Even at the age of 72 .... But I still have some problems to get the sense, when they ask to be a soldier - at the end of the song ...

same key as he sang in 1977... just wonderful....

Agreed! Liked the way the old Martin sounded better than this Lowden, though ...
@@tomokra That was a Yamaha that he was playing back in 1977. I thought it sounded great though.
Day after his 70th birthday. What a joy to watch.
God, he sounds as good as ever. Great to hear him again. This is the music of my youth in Ireland
Sounds too good for how old he is. Should've done more drugs.
Me too ☺️ plus I moved back last year
Brilliant stuff from the legendary Paul Brady: a very lively showing of Arthur McBride, spurred on by a wonderfully appreciative audience. Brilliant!
Brings tears to my eyes with joy and sadness.
It doesn't get any better than this. Superb.
Paul is sounding first class. He makes tArthur McBride real you are right there experiencing Arthur. Thats magical.
Wonderful performance - it would lift your spirit and clearly the audience caught the mood. Paul is one of our national treasures.
great, job guys, , love the voices, bought their records in my 20,s they still do a good job,,
His performance has aged like wine
That's a perfect analogy!
Bloody brilliant!

From the first moment I heard your beautiful voice when you were barely past twenty it knocked me dead! x
How has his voice changed so little in fifty years? I'm 65 and can't hit the high notes that I used to. Amazing.
Besides the joy of singing I see from his performance, what great smiles! The audience were lovely too 😍
It's great to see Paul and his audience share in the song that is so loved by many, including myself, thanks for sharing this video.🎶❣️😎
Oh Yes - the joy of a lifetime of fine delivery and a great song - this is so heart warming
he is amazing and how can he keep getting even better?

Absolutely exquisite. And such warmth.
I was interested to see how he sounded now vs when he was younger. Man! He sounds just as good today! ❤
He really does x
The enjoyment in his face and the joy the crowd has in singing along, lovely.
Ah I could sit and listen to this all day. Best Christmas song by far lol
This is absolutely breathtaking.

Not a one. Listen to Martin Luther King's lesson on violence. Then consider the greatness of this song.
Hate breeds hate breeds hate......
Gets better and better.
Just amazing, must of felt good to have the crowd kick in at the end.
