    ive always struggled with transposition and during my time at college ive had numerous different people try to teach me to no avail. But these 4 videos have been such a good help! its actually clicked now. Can you maybe do more with squared numbers, square roots etc? It would help with my mechanical and electrical principles classes a lot.

    I was once quite good at transposition, but I had forgotten it. I watched your videos to come up to speed so that I can be a solid helper for my kids when they reach algebra at school. Your teaching method is quite flawless. You deliver in such a way that it seems so simple...kudos and thank you!

    As a 62 year old who has struggled with transposition I must thank you.
    My maths teacher was not very good and he would say "therefore this and that", if I asked why, he just said the others get it so should you.
    Although I did go on to learn how to do transposition it was still a slow process. your 4 videos have just clicked with me and I get it, I was stopping the video after you wrote the equation and told us what to solve for, with it paused I was writing the answers in steps on paper and ticking them off as you went through the explanation and as I say, I got it.
    Thank you so much for the clarity.

Somehow 3 weeks learning and once a week class never did anything near 20:47 of your time. I jumped a level up two month into my first year learning electrical engineering and so I needed to work really hard catch up on the maths these last weeks and you helped a lot thanks again.

    Great video, but i,m wondering why you didn`t change signs on the "R+r" when you moved sides on step two?

    • @teachmemathsonline
      @teachmemathsonline  9 років тому +1

      It changed sides when we were MULTIPLYING both sides by "R+r". Things only change signs when you're ADDING or SUBTRACTING them. To give you an example, if we have "x + 2" and we want to move the +2 away from the x, we subtract 2 because that's the opposite of adding 2 (which is why you would end up with a -2 on the other side of the equation). But if you have "x / 2" you have to multiply by 2 because that's the opposite of dividing by 2. You don't multiply by -2 though! That's why the sign doesn't change when multiplying. Effectively, the "change sides, change signs" rule only applies when we do Step 3: Move added/subtracted terms.

    I'm still lost.My transposition are a little more difficult.For instance13y+12=7y+36. Solve for yOr even worse(b^2-(q+s))/q=s find for bCan you do some of these?

    • @sensui4466
      @sensui4466 7 років тому

      Dean Brett 13y - 12 = 7y + 36
      First you move the constants to the other side (which is -12)And join the variables you've been looking for(which is 13y and 7y)
      Then it would be 13y-7y=36+12.Remember,when you move you change the sign or the term.
      You get 6y=48 divide 6 to the equation(the number next to y)
      And you get x=48👏👏
      Hope it helped you!

    s={(v=u)/2}t transpose for v
    This is exactly how the question shows up on some quizzes that I have to do, and I'm still drawing a blank after watching every one of the transposition videos.

    • @teachmemathsonline
      @teachmemathsonline  9 років тому +1

      The "equation" you've given has two "equals signs" in it so you can't transpose this one. I suspect the = between the v and the u should be a minus sign. Double check the question. If it really is exactly as you've written it then the question is wrong and you'll need to go back to the quiz writer!

    • @midget9boyd

      That second = between the v and u showed up as a '+' Typed a bit too fast i guess
