One of our most requested videos ever is finally here. If you have been looking for an exhuast systems for 6.0 powerstroke, We have it here! This video is our 6.0 powerstroke exhaust install! We are installing a 4 inch turbo back exhaust. Thats right finally a 6.0 powerstroke exhaust install. Josh's truck gets a new diamond eye exhaust. We install his 4 inch diamond eye turbo back exhaust in this video and it is great. We also compare the stock exhaust against his new 4 inch diamond eye exhaust and my magnaflow exhaust. We even have a little fun and have sound clips of his exhaust at different parts of removal and install. You have to love that 6.0 powerstroke straight pipe whistle! We had a blast and the 6.0 powerstroke diamond eye exhaust kit is a great kit. We are very happy with the diamond eye exhaust kit fit and finish. Now which truck do you guys think sounds better The diamond eye exhaust or the magnaflow exhaust system for the 6.0 powerstroke! Although we are installing a diamond eye exhaust. There a very similar kits that install the same way like the 6.0 powerstroke mbrp exhaust install. This video can serve as a universal 4 inch powerstroke exhaust install video. What part of the video was your favorite. Was it the 6.0 powerstroke straight pipe. maybe the 6.0 powerstroke axle dump. Maybe you enjoyed seeing the return of the 6.0 powerstroke build project whistlin dixie?

Just for future reference.. take a jack and jack up the transmission and remove the transmission cross member when removing and installing the down pipes on the 6.0’s. A lot of techs found it to be easier to remove that to have more room to maneuver for removal and to get a snug tight fitment for the down pipe.
I own an 05 6.0 with the MBRP 5” exhaust with the 3.5” down pipe. Meets California emissions because it retains the stock cat, however seriously considering in getting a dummy cat made. But will swap out the down pipe to a 4” unit when I replace the exhaust manifolds to sinister high flow headers and MBRP high flow up-pipes. With the while running my superchip flashpaq F5 on the MileageXS tune.. not only does it light up the tires from a dead stop when floored instantly in a non-boosted launch.. but it’ll roll coal just not on a massive level to send me paddling up the wrong creek with the liberals out here.
But the current mods I’ve done so have been:
Volant Intake with both PowerCore Filter for rain seasons and primo filter for summer seasons and both have socks to prevent bugs damage the filters
Banks Techni-Cooler intercooler with 3.5” boost tubes and high ram intake elbow. The intake elbow was honed out at the inlet to eliminate airflow turbulence and the intercooler was custom powder coated to cause the IAT’s to match ambient temperature if not less at any speed.
Bulletproof Diesel All Aluminum Radiator. Better built and no worries or concerns that other competitor brands.
    Mishimoto Blue Radiator Hoses
    Mean Green Gear Reduction Starter
FASS Titanium 125gph Air/Water Filtration Fuel Pump
Driven Diesel 75psi Regulator Spring for FASS Titanium Fuel Pump (made throttling more snappy from a dead stop and now able to climb grade and still gain speed with the transmission downshifting.
Driven Diesel FASS Titanium Fuel Pump priming kit (eliminates the mess when bleeding the air out of the fuel lines
BD Diesel Crank Case Vent Filter with Chinese made stainless steel washable filter
BD Diesel High Idle Control knob
    Superchips FlashPaq F5 #1845
DC Power 190 Amp HD Alternator (eventually will replace it with a Mean Green High Output Alternator due to limited clearance for passengers side boost tube
PSC Big Bore bored over power steering gearbox (very response and steers smoothly while running LT285/70R17 Cooper Radial Discoverer ST Maxx Tires on stock 17x8 rims
    Odyssey Extreme Batteries
    Fluids I use:
Champion Classic Blue Flame 15w40 (my truck loves this stuff)
New South Diesel TK-7 Diesel Fuel additive (for the price its well worth the extra buck since other big name brands and nothing has else has been able to clean out the valves/cylinders/injection system and lastly the turbo vanes to the point giving me close to thirty MPG’s doing 70 to 75 on the interstate.
Amsoil LV/SP signature Fuel Efficient Transmission fluid
Amsoil Signature Series for T-Case and Power Steering
Amsoil Severe Gear fluids in front and rear differentials

Sounds like an awesome truck man. If I remeber right and I could be wrong when the y pipe is out you should have plenty of room to get the 4 inch down pipe in. I believe it was right between the y pipe and firewall. Do you have to have something put in your exhaust for emissions or only pass a visual test? Also not sure if that tuner turns off egr function or not so keep that in mind. Last I just want to say I would be careful with the sinister manifolds I haven't heard great things about them, and typically in our trucks the log style manifolds typically perform better. I would probably look at mpd billet manifolds or see if you could find a set of steed speed manifolds. I am running the bd manifolds and love them so far

@@six0bros well to answer your many good questions first off in California there many loopholes when it comes emissions inspections of Diesel's.
In California there are multiple counties where the owner of a gas powered vehicle has to meet emissions requirements once the entire time of ownership of the vehicle and never has to have the vehicle undergo emissions again as long as it passes emissions the first time. This same emissions requirements applies to all diesels with GVRW under 14,000 pounds.
Another is the emissions test. It consists of since January 1st 2010 of visual inspection.. computer inspection and snap test. If everything looks stock appearing or any aftermarket parts that can change vehicles characteristics retains a C.A.R.B. E.O. # your good there. The feared snap test consists of revving the engine up to 2000 RPM's and the tech snaps the throttle to 3,000 to 3,000+ RPM to see if smoke is present. Now note.. the smoke has to be thick enough to cause visibility to drop less than 30% and it has to linger for thirty seconds.
The Superchips FlashPaq F5 1845 does coal to be rolled due to.. and I'm pretty certain of this.. the disengagement of certain emissions. But because it already retains an E.O. number it is met with exemption. When reverting the computer back to stock from running any tunes.. upon completion of returning the vehicle back to stock.. not sure if this applies to the newer Super Duty's and the older 7.3 Super Duty's or not. But on the 6.0's you have to unplug both batteries and once both batteries are disconnected turn the headlights to rest assure power is to rest assure optimal drain of what remaining power and let it sit for thirty minutes to an hour. Me I like to leave it disconnected overnight. Once time is up.. reconnect both batteries (but those of us running either H.I.D. conversions or L.E.D. headlight/Turn/Markers/parking/plate lamps.. turn off the headlight switch before reconnecting. Otherwise it can cause damage to bulbs and headlight relays upon reconnecting from the minor arching of the positive terminals upon reconnecting) then start it up and drive it for 50 to 70 miles and your good for emissions inspections. So no footprint is found when this done.
But the turbo down pipe I couldn't tell you as far as my truck goes.. because I had install but I've confirmed with several technicians locally in regards to other techs are doing when removing and installing the turbo pipe. But I will say just by visually seeing the Up-Pipes and the clearance the Up-Pipes would free up upon removal I will agree it will make the process go by a lot easier. But the downside is after the downpipe is mounted in place to what angle and direction the piping needs to be positioned. Plus I already see it being a cluster Frïcken when reinstalling the Up-Pipes.. while the down pipe is connected.
And regardless the transmission cross member you'll want out of the way because the down pipe outlet comes out right on top of it. Key thing of focus here is precision mounted to not raise concern's of potential exhaust leaks or exhaust piping getting hung up on something and getting ripped clean off the truck.
Now my down pipe I had to have the 3.5" two bolt (not a flange to use on a high pressure & high heat exposure from a diesel) and replaced it with a 3.5" three bolt. Eliminates the constant warping of the flange if you're running the stock cat.
So note the keywords hear guys.. if looks and appears stock and is using the stock connections.. and the soot output is not enough to cause motorists to be blinded longer than thirty seconds.. your truck is in the realm of meeting compliance by the eyes of the average emissions tech. The only time it is grounds to start sweating bullets while paddling up the cr@p eating carp Creek is when law enforcement issues a citation that you an X amount time to have your vehicle inspected by a state emissions technician.. then your S.O.L. if you didn't do what I have doing.. keeping the crucial parts of importance to pass emissions. But here in California the last time I've seen that was back in October of 2011.. after that it started not being seen as huge problem considering there's bigger fish fry out there.
Hope this helps on your many journeys of being a 6.0 survivalist like the rest us.
In the words of a good friend of mine put it when it came to best define my truck..

6.0 Bros Absolutely man.. however for all of us 6.0 owners out here in California I will note smog techs and law enforcement are becoming a lot more aware of what to look out for. So if you roll coal in California it’s your risk for a major fix it ticket if not being cuffed for tampering with EPA devices, however like I said before just do a search on Diesel Power Magazine article on California Emissions.. with the article you’ll find a map out of what counties have the worst stringent emissions requirements.. least stringent emissions requirements.. and one time to be met upon first registration of ownership of either a gas or diesel vehicle emissions requirements to be met and not ever again unless potentially reselling. But.. if your like me and roll coal to rid the cockroach off your bumper.. there’s no shame in that as long it’s outside the eyes of the law. Hell quite a few local law enforcement have given me props on my 6.0 out here. And it’s not just because I was staying side by side with a 2013 SRT8 Challenger (even that guy gave me props) while climbing a grade on a highway.. mind you that was before the use of a Superchip. But also because it’s all legitimately legal (as I do the Dr. Evil quote unquote expression followed by his evil laugh) With the Superchip on the hot tune.. first time running it lit up the tires in first and second and then chirped into third. Now mind when I made that pull I honestly couldn’t tell ya how long the dark side was trailing behind.. but it held true to concept as a Prius repellent. But you know it’s pretty epic when owners of late 90’s to early 2000’s Dodge Cummins giving you props on 6.0 after being roasted in their heavily modded 5.9’s.. while you’re running the MileageXS Tune (economy mode) from the Superchip.
Every time I see a mid-90’s Honda VTec fly right by me or rev its lawnmower.. I can’t help but imitate the one character in temple of doom by saying “Ahh Desert”. Alls I gotta say is it’s pretty f#ckin epic & hilarious in hearing a a little four banger rev up to their fuel cutoff. As these newer generations are sitting there laughing it up like I ain’t got anything on that $h!t.. well sorry to break to ya.. but you’re right. Bye Bye.. as they get left a car and a half from a stop in thunderous cloud.. then three.. and then five. Hmmm did we go limp with that lawnmower or did the ignorance level of their ego go limp after hearing the thirteen blades spooling with zero lag get transformed into the mighty roar of Odin.
I’ve said it before on countless occasions and I’ll say it continuously like it’s beating a dead donkey back to life..
“Horsepower just gives you more speed to work with and take longer to reach top numbers.. Torque is what launches your @ss through the brick wall while pulling a house down while achieving top speed faster than someone can supercalifragilisticixpyalladotious three times”
Diesel Power.. it’s the original American Muscle that moved the world.
      Best ford quotes to memorize:
“What did Ford say to GM? I don’t recall”
“Saw a Prius hit a bird today.. the bird was ok.. but the Prius was totaled”
“My response to the whole ‘she rather be Cummin than Stroken’ fad.. I hate to shrivel your pricks by this factoid.. buuut the louder and deeper the growl post whistle.. the more turned on she’ll be, because why. V8’s have always sounded a hell of a lot better than going limp with six since the 1930’s.”
“So you got yourself a diesel.. there’s just one problem. Straight piping your Jetta TDi don’t make you an affiliated competitor of The United Coal Rollers Coalition Act.. you’re Färfromdōin it. So Nein Nein Nein Nein Nein!!! Not Über Cool”
      Have An Awesome Day Guys!!
      😆🤣😋🙂😉😏👍🤘
Oh to all my California 6.0 owners out here.. if you own a 2004.5 to 2007 and you have the ten blade jet turbine.. some law enforcement will use that as possible reasons to do a brief roadside inspection. Now just because they don’t see anything doesn’t mean he can’t send you and your 6.0 to a state emissions enforcement tech contracted by the state in a certain time frame. So keep the thirteen blade stock handy for those rainy days of such bullshittery.

6.0 needs back pressure for the turbo to operate correctly.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  5 років тому +1

All turbos need a certain level of back pressure however it doesn't receive it from the muffler we put on since it is a straight through design. I could be wrong but I believe the back pressure issue is a bigger concern in the tuner world from the smaller engines. However the 6.0 also has the variable vane side of things that helps create more back pressure when it is needed. All that said there are a few true aftermarket mufflers that would help increase back pressure and thus improve off the line throttle. I did notice when the truck only had an exhaust and nothing else done not even a programmer I did feel like I lost a little right off the line. This would definitely be from the decrease in backpressure.

The main reason people put the exhaust on these trucks is the sound. The functional reason is that you decrease Exhaust temps by allowing them to escape faster through the less restrictive flowing Exhaust.

I have a question. I have a 04 with a 4 inch straight pipe. And it doesn’t whistle. Like at all. Would that mean my veins are stuck. I took it to a shop yesterday. And they said my boost is good they don’t think there’s anything wrong with the veins. But I might have to take the turbo out to actually see. I just want to know if there is a turbo issue that mine won’t whistle. I know that the 03 turbos had a 10 blade turbine which whistles allot louder. But I still think mine should have alittle bit of a whistle? Would really appreciate any advice:)

The exhibit itself there are no issues with at all. The clamps to connect the pieces together do leave something to he desired. There are much nicer ones out there, but if you get it setup and leave the clamps underneath alone you will be fine. We tried to adjust one piece the other month and broke the one clamp. That said before you tighten any clamps make sure you have everything how you want it the first time. We did not do that and that is why we broke that clamp going back later.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  5 років тому

On josh's truck which is not tuned right now. There is relatively little change especially if you have the 13 blade turbine of the late 04 through the rest of production. Now tuned it does provide a slight increase in performance since you limit the restrictions. I plan to in the fall actually test this both tuned and stock when I get the next project truck. Also gonna test air filter kits and see how they perform in comparison to stock

The lifters are same lifters found in gas engines. Not the strongest. Also the geometry on the rocker setup on 6.0L can side load the valves so High RPM= valve train wear or flat spotting a lifter roller and that requires a complete tear down because you cant get the lifters in the rear of the engine out with out tearing the stupid thing way down. Just for the record I know these trucks really well. (don't ask me much about other engines though I know a lot less about the others) anyway once the batteries were replaced issue was gone. This truck sits a lot so the batteries were not always fully charged up and what happened was that the one braided line on the starter was wearing through which makes it pull more amps. so a weaker battery and the starter pulling more amps was part of the issue. Anyway with good batteries the truck has no issue starting or running. fuel system fine and no issues with compression.
