These are quite fascinating Suites based around the>>Kleine Cammer Musik (1716!) Reprinted in Hamburg (1728) Firstly, c-minor quite a rare Key= Mattheson: Extremely lovely but sad, Quantz: Melancholic & mournful, Rameau: Tenderness & Plaints! There are most definitely links to some of those 20 odd Leipzig Operas...hidden Aria melodies and possibly scenic changes music?? Excellent re-workings played to perfection here! Bravo M.schneider et al!
Interesting, this is the second of Telemann's Overture-Suites that I listen to that shares (apart from the Overture), all its movements with his Partitas from the Kleine Kammermusik set. Obviously a reworking of the pieces, but it's revealing to think about his creative ways of 'recycling' material- completely different instrumentation, and though the thematic material and harmonisations are similar to my ears, these pieces are completely different. It goes to show how creative he was! Happy to see he is regaining his popularity- would certainly enjoy watching one of his many operas!

It seems that the third aria came from - or related to - one of the arias in The Patient Socrates.
