The Cricut Mug Press is the newest Machine from the Cricut Brand. Released March 11th 2021 to the public. Cricut product experts and other social media influencers were provided the machine and materials early to gain interest in the machine. I was not provided anything for this video everything is paid with my own money and no one is compensating me for my views. The Cricut mug press is being compared and reviewed against the BetterSub mug press from Amazon. Cricut retails for $199 and bettersub at the time of this video for $139

Great video. I found a cricut mug press new for $100 on Facebook. And it looks way more convenient to own and use. Also I think the warranty and customer support will be way better with cricut, I hope. But dealing with Amazon sellers... They aren't so great most of the time.

Absolutely fantastic comparison!!! I love that you didn't get to practice before sharing everything with us. All the other videos I've seen were obviously sponsored by Cricut because they had the presses before they were for sale. So they had time to practice before their videos. I love your honesty and comments on both presses. I almost got one today, got up to the register and because of a price issue, walked out without anything. Thank you again for the true and honest comparison. I sincerely appreciate it.

A good, thorough comparison of both machines. I bought my Maker for cutting fabric for applique mainly and maybe a few other things. I was curious to see what this mug press was all about but I wont be rushing out to buy one, Cricut or from Amazon. It gets really expensive. The infusible ink sheets are eyewateringly expensive and there is no way I could ever afford a sublimation printer but it is good to see how these things work. Thankyou so much.

Also, when taping the art to the mug, would you get better results if you allowed a minimum distance from the top and bottom (say 1/8") so the artwork can be well pressed against the mug? It appears that when you tape the top and bottom edges, that process may be keeping the press from fully pressing the art to the mug. If there is a minimum gap from top and bottom, you wouldn't need to tape, and the press may press the art more evenly with no gaps. (I'm assuming, based on the little experience I have personally.) Thx for reading.

We have so many mugs in our house already but I think the colors and being able to put your own ideas on the mugs are wonderful and may have been interested a few years ago. The only way to get around that is to use a convection oven, and do a full wrap leaving space for the handle. Mug presses allow the handle to protrude so the heat only presses up to the handle leaving a gap.

When I first saw the mug press I thought I had to have it and then I saw the price tag. I don’t foresee selling mugs so I just can’t see spending $200 to make a few mugs for gifts and a few for myself. So if the oven doesn’t work I am probably just going to skip it. @@sooty8992 By now I have done 4 mugs using the wrap and a convection oven. It is working great for me. The first one had a few little issues that I learned from, but the next three were perfect.
I am not having trouble putting the wrap on. (and I am using far less tape than a lot of people seem to use.) And the oven is doing a great job. I am doing 400 degrees for 12 minutes and have seen people be successful with it using other temps and times.
Most people are only going to create a few mug for themselves and for gifts. If I end up making 10 mugs total, each one would cost the amount of the supplies plus $20 for the press - so $25-$30 per mug depening on cost of supplies.
If someone is planning on selling them, they would do better to buy a larger oven so they can do multiple mugs at one time.

Thank you so much for the unbiased review and for the comparison that you carried out. I looked at the mug press when it was announced, hubbs and I discussed it and he decided a 5 in 1 was a better option, especially here in Australia, as the cricut mug press does not go on sale here until around November and looking around the $300-$400 Aud mark. @@UCYlVANZaK92YZY293cYW-gA I mentioned I was going to try the mug sublimation in an inexpensive convection oven with the mug wrap. I just did it and it was so easy. I didn't go too mad with all the tape because the silicone wrap was going to hold it tight. Except for a wee lilttle weeding mistake that no one but me will notice, it turned out perfectly, and was very easy to do. I was nervous because so many people were a bit over the top about being careful, but it really was not bad at all.
Question... you know how the Cricut mug project in Design Space has 2 layers - the color layer and the cut for the transfer tape backing? The cricut goes around that second layer twice and cuts it completely through. Do you know how they did that? It just looks like a regular cut line. I was thinking it would be handy to do that sometimes when cutting out multiple items. Maybe there are two cut lines welded together?

    • @CorinneBlackstone

When this video came out I followed the directions provided by Cricut so that no one could say I changed anything. That's why no butcher paper was used and so much tape was used. However now I absolutely always use butcher paper but the reason butcher paper is used is to protect your press from any of the ink blow out. it doesn't do anything for the sublimation itself.

I'll be completely honest...cheaper isn't always better. I 3d print all and I've seen so many people complain when they bought cheap and got the results of that. Is cricut trying to gate keep? Most definitely. Will that bite them in the rear? Maybe. Especially if like other companies they fail to change as other companies make a similar product with similar or better results for less. But again the idea is "you get what you pay for" is in play here. Cricut made something simple (possibly to simple) but it is user friendly
