Love this topic 👏🏼 imo there's a fine line between "sauce" and cosplay/costume. It's an experimental & evolving balance of beautiful fit/drape/texture/silhouette/proportions with a unique, personalized twist that exudes confidence & personality over showy, boasty energy. Comfort and ease, with a splash of elevation, innovation, or intrigue.
Well said, thank you. One thing I'm realizing now after posting this video is that the looks I chose to highlight reflect my own tastes, which of course might not resonate with others, and that's totally cool. But putting looks together that work well ... the approach is really the same (as you point out) whether you aspire to cowboy workwear or satanic goth or whatever.
@ I appreciate your unique tastes in sauce tho! It’s all subjective. Since my wardrobe is way more in the satanic goth realm lol, my version of sauce is usually in drape, texture, silhouette, mood, geometry, asymmetry, maybe a minimal accessory.
Growing up in the 80s-90s through the skateboarding, punk, skinhead, mod, hip-hop, rave, and grunge eras has influenced my style Life experience+authenticity=sauce I also believe this equation can also work with tattoos that people choose to get as well
Growing up in the hood since the 90s and hearing an AAVE term like "sauce" being used in such an intellectual context us hilarious and very cool at the same time hahaha. Fuck what ya'll think but African American's are the creators and curators of contemporary American English
On the note of "not letting the clothes wear you", I think the thing that mentally strikes me the most is that I see the person before I see the clothes-- They look so effortless and at home in their style that it makes me want to ask who they are, and not what they are wearing. Really enjoyed this topic!
You also picked a great outfit for the video. To me, 'sauce' is relaxed and comfortable, yet stylish and charismatic - I guess this links to your video about finding your personal style!
I like your channel and this video was especially great. Interesting catches (I took some screenshots) and well said with the difference between sauce and cosplay. Thank you.
Loving the channel Peter - and sauce - very much about that one little piece, that one pop of colour - keep up the fabulous content! and yes, Pitti, what an inspiration!
Some effective looks. Recently I was speaking with a guy in the elevator of my building who was wearing a beautiful camel coat over an off-white sweater --- reminded me how good that look can be, and he really pulled it off.
Just found your channel. 👍 Enjoyed the very cohesive breakdown of Pitti Uomo hits / sauce. 58 looking at getting back on that fashion train. With Sauce of course.
This was an excellent video! I never gave much thought to layering but now I will, especially with patterns. Pitti Uomo is someplace I've been aspiring to attend for years. One day I will get there 😀.
Its also important to note that "sauce" like most things popular and cool comes from Black culture and slang. Im seeing some people not mention this in their videos. Its a 2024/2025 version of "steeze" or "swag".
Don't get me wrong, I like people who are creative and try different things and have the confidence to wear that stuff like it would be a "normal" outfit but where in everyday live could you use many of those oufits with like 6 layers? During winter I even struggle with a normal shirt and jacket as it is way too hot in most offices those days and outside its still pretty cold so you need some sort of jacket/layer above your base layer. For me a good outfit is also something which you can wear in everyday situation without either freezing/sweating all the time.
After watching your commentary, I came up with a formula of suace. It's: (Item a+b+c+....+ physical attribute)/(# of items)*(authenticity + confidence + originality) Feel free to comment or correct it!
As someone who's been saying "sauce" for over 20 years. I think we need to shout out the Bay Area in California for the word's origin. Also, sauce and sprezzatura are pretty much interchangeable.
love this video! also, peter I need your guidance I'm looking for a white casual shirt without pouches and a hidden button collar any brands/stores you'd recommend me?
I dunno. I can’t tell whether they are trying too hard or just really quirky guys and comfortable and confident. I wouldn’t pull off their looks because they are not me. But bottom line… be authentic and comfortable.
100%. Personally that’s what it’s about for me: be intentional about how I’m presenting myself, but be authentic and comfortable. If you’re not, others will pick up on that.
Thank you for always giving us the answer to the most important question… The why, why does this look good? Why does this work? Why does this not work? Why why why why why 💚💜💚💜💚💜💚💜 ⊂(◉‿◉)つ
These folks look so out of place in Tuscany. If you are in Firenze on any given day the clothing is pretty calm. Most of the looks seem attention seeking and look ridiculous outside of a "fashion event." We know celebrities pay stylists, we know the truth about underpaid young people in the fashion industry. There is no glamour. Men with high end purses look silly, like they raided their mom's closet. The only time I like really crazy looks are older folks, 50s and 60s and beyond who either are professional artists or veteran fashion professionals. Cowboy Urkel? Uh no. There is a lot of projection in what you're guessing about these people. Workwear southwest vibe guy looks like every guy from San Diego to San Francisco. Even people in Reno dress like that. The fly fishing basket is, like what are you doing bro? Try less hard. Also rich people cosplaying as workers is just classist. Most of the sauce here is from a jar. We are entering the era of unfashion.
Sauce? Really? If you wanna talk style get off the labelling wagon. Pitti Uomo is a peacock parade; once in Florence, go to a museum, pay attention to the culture, enjoy the food and forget about Ego tripping.
Great presentation, in my opinion what you seem to be talking about here is artifice, presenting a story that isn’t actually a truthful representation of the process. This is one of the problems I have with modern fashion culture, much of the signaling is very considered and a great deal of effort has gone into it unyet the idea is to look as if you haven’t tried at all? This is a reasonably new concept when one compares fashion through the lens of history. This phenomenon is what underlies much of the modern culture of “insta lives”, ie people presenting imagery of themselves that appear a way that is very different from the truth. The fact it has become a trend and a desired outcome of the way a person presents to the world is problematic. I love clothes, I personally enjoy putting effort into dressing and I don’t particularly care if that effort is reflected in my personal style. I don’t need to signal that I’m nonchalant or unstudied or somehow more stylish that someone who has tried hard because I view that as another expression of elitism, and elitism has been the scourge of fashion culture since clothes were first worn.
I'm honored I made the list. I'm wearing the high-waisted jeans and cowboy hat
LOVE your style!
@ thank you!

Those were formative years for me as well. Many of the styles from those years are still with me today.
Growing up in the hood since the 90s and hearing an AAVE term like "sauce" being used in such an intellectual context us hilarious and very cool at the same time hahaha.
Fuck what ya'll think but African American's are the creators and curators of contemporary American English
African Americans are responsible for the vast majority of American pop culture!
@@PetersPrism Love your content. You, SIR, are a style inspiration as much as everyone else in this video
Hearing a well-established, polished fashionista speak of sauce is incredible. Could you next define "aura" w/ context

Peter, you look better today, than 99% of those cats at Pitti. Cheers.
Thank you!
Agree
great video Peter, I love the analysis of mindset and attitude, as well as the typical coverage of the looks/asthetics.
You also picked a great outfit for the video. To me, 'sauce' is relaxed and comfortable, yet stylish and charismatic - I guess this links to your video about finding your personal style!

Love your videos ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you!!
Thank you for your observations on Pitti. I've listened to a few other folks talk about it, but I enjoyed yours the most.
Thanks for listening
Maybe the best video om Pitti Uomo I've seen, thanks for sharing your comments and thought process behind finding that misterious "sauce"!
Well done Sir.

Great video. Alot of these looks are what I aspire to. Amazing style. Shows me how far I have to go!
Some effective looks. Recently I was speaking with a guy in the elevator of my building who was wearing a beautiful camel coat over an off-white sweater --- reminded me how good that look can be, and he really pulled it off.
Great stuff Peter, I have always wanted to visit Pitti - maybe next year - so this was interesting on multiple levels :)

Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching 🙏

No more these "new words"
"Rizz"
"Sauce"
And
"Etc"

I need your guidance
I'm looking for a white casual shirt without pouches and a hidden button collar
any brands/stores you'd recommend me?
By 'hidden button collar' do you mean a tab snap closure?
@@PetersPrism my bad, collar was the wrong word
I meant a hidden button placket
I have zero sauce. But enjoyed the video.
I think you have excellent style, classic and classy. I love a good scarf, pin or beads to add personality
Крутой контент, с меня подписка!😀😎👍🎉
Спасибо!
Boys Dont Cry?
Whats the story with the digital frame and that album?
No particular reason... I just love that album and decided to throw the cover on my Tidbyt
@@PetersPrism Being able to name a Cure album before Disintegration makes you OK in my book. It looks good.

if you wanna have sauce, go grab some at the supermarket

In a nutshell wear your clothes, not a designers. If you re trying hard, change and start again.
Just here to note that this is a 30+ year old term from a very particular subset of society
Only Vsauce
sprezzatura
