From Wikipedia:
Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Mississippi's portion of US 90 was entirely four-lanes except for a very short segment at the state's west end leading to the old Pearl River Bridge into Louisiana. That segment of old highway is obviated for most purposes by an extension of the four-lane roadway from its split with US 90 to I-10 just east of the much newer Pearl Bridge.
Before Hurricane Camille in 1969, the 26-mile (42 km) stretch of US 90 from the Bay St. Louis Bridge at the west end to the Biloxi Bay Bridge at the east was one of the most scenic roadways in the south, offering beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico on its south side and lovely mansions - some antebellum - on its north. The median featured many old, stately oak trees, a good number of which survived the storm.
Many segments and important bridges were heavily damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. With the opening of two lanes of the Biloxi Bay Bridge on November 1, 2007, the entire route is now restored. Reconstruction projects continue on much of the highway and lane closures are common. Substantial completion of all US 90 Katrina-related road work in this state was scheduled to have been completed by now.
'US Highway 90 Project History' recounts in some detail this roadway's colorful past in Mississippi, dating back to the early 20th century when it was part of the Old Spanish Trail. The pdf document is available at the 'Project Updates' page of the Mississippi Department of Transportation's website (www.gomdot.com).
My wife was born in Biloxi as were my two sons, I was raised in a military family (USAF) and use to go skating at Patterson's skating rink now Golden Gate and that is where I meet my wife to be and married in 1975!
That entire stretch of 90 (Beach Blvd.) from Long Beach to Oceans Springs is 30 miles of wonderful.
Don’t know how you’ve managed it. But you’ve recorded the only time it hasn’t rained in the last three weeks! Very nice 👍🏼 The coast is one of the best areas in MS to live.
You’re right about that. It actually did rain a little before I filmed this. Got lucky enough to get a small window of sunshine for the video.
We love living on the MS gulf coast!
I stayed there for a couple months. I loved it and really grew on me. Very nice people compared to the rest of the country
AMEN
It's also nicer than most of the Mississippi cities. It's ranked as the poorest state in the us on some lists
My hometown! Gulfport Mississippi! Nice drive on the coast! I’m sure you enjoyed it all!
Thank you for all your hard work making these scenic drive videos ,,,,,
You’re welcome. Really glad you’re enjoying them!
Stumbled on your vlogs brings back so much memories from2001----2005 and seeing the BEAU RIVAGE still there ,oh how BILOXI was beautiful now it's just scenery...
Thanks for the throw back 🤗👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I miss the coast so much ...this awesome me feel at home
It’s a beautiful place. Move here in 2012 from Atlanta. Nice to have friendly people that truly care about you.
10:43 I lived half mile from that part of the beach from 1997 to 2002, when I moved to Ocean Springs. I have been on every inch of that, by foot, bike, and car, in your video. THANKS for the memories.
Thanks for sharing!
@@MileageMikeTravels Since you're there, you should do Front Beach Dr and East Front Beach Dr in Ocean Springs. I hope you dont find my suggestion rude. I really enjoy your videos.
I was down there last weekend. Whenever I go to New Orleans in the future I might go through this area and I’ll check those places out if I have time.
@@MileageMikeTravels WE LOVE TO DRIVE FROM BAY OF ST LOUIS ALL THE WAY TO OCEAN CITY ESPECIALLY ON SUNDAY..
And love walking barefoot by the water
0pps Ocean Springs
A beach town with free public parking, at the beach! I might have to check this out. I like how the locals knew you were coming and waved hi to you 😁
😂 gotta love being on camera!
I literally have to go to Mississippi again. It has been 17 years (since 2005) since my last visit there.
Great video Mississippi Mike keep it up man your doing videos in Mississippi now huh that's cool man
Ocean Springs is a nice place to live. Years ago, on Friday nights the Front Beach was packed bumper to bumper with cars! It was a great time to be a teenager!
I love it 😍 I rode out around Birmingham yesterday and of course I discovered something new.
Enjoy your ride! Nice 👍🏽
Thanks!
We've been here for 10 months ,loving it ,beautiful conservative state.
And the yes ma'am that i love to hear.
Backwards* state there fixed it for you. Biloxi and gulfport are corrupt as hell but I'm sure you're dumb ass doesn't mind or even care.
@@WhatsUp20201 evidence?
@@williamletarte2481 I'm not here to convince YOUR stupid ass of what the rest of the states already know
Thanks for the great memories!! I was there in 2016
Glad you enjoyed it!
Being from North Alabama, I Love west Biloxi! lived at La Chateau Condo/apartments in between souvenir city and Treasure Bay Island casino (which was Royal D'Iberville Motel) back in 1990. While working at DuPont in DeLisle, MS. Rode Cowan Rd to interstate 10 west to work in morning and came down beach Blvd. from Pass Christian to Biloxi every afternoon. What a beautiful peaceful ride after work every day. Worked with B,E,&K Construction Company. We worked 4 ten-hour days. Was off every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. just like a vacation every weekend. I was 27 years old at the time, I had a brand-new Black Mustang GT 5.0, made some great friends in Biloxi. I still try to make a trip there every year to eat crawfish and ride around reminiscing about the old days. Life is short, but I will never forget my year in Biloxi, living right on the beach. Sad to say I didn't realize how good I had it at the time. Wish I could go back in time. Like Eddie Money's song (I wanna go back). And do it all over but I can't go back I know. I have looked for some of my old work buddies but have not been able to find any with the exception of Marlon Fields who lived on Lee Street I believe. They called us Miami vice after a little ordeal that happened one night in downtown Biloxi. Marlon was Tubbs and I was Crockett. good times. Can you believe me, and my buddy Jerry Letson had a two bedroom, two bath condo/apartment with beautiful courtyard and swimming pool on the beach for 400.00 dollars a month. Too bad the hurricane Katrina got them and now there is a vacant lot between souvenir city and treasure bay island casino where they once were located. You can see them on the South Mississippi Casinos 25-year evolution video on you tube beginning at the 2:47 minute mark you will see them to the left of Royal D'Iberville Motel before hurricane Katrina. And after the 3:19 minute mark on video when Royal D'Iberville was changed to Treasure Bay Island casino. Hope you enjoyed this post and watch the video also. If any of my old friends, see this post hit me up at 256-303-9006. I would love to talk to you and perhaps see you again. great times. Jr. Weeks
18:25 right by my job. I'm the Operation Supervisor at South Beach Hotel. If none of y'all have been in, you should check it out. Condo style rooms. Studio, one bedroom and 2 bedroom suites. The 1 & 2 bedroom suites all have full kitchens, and we are the only hotel directly on the beach on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
@William Le Tarte Thank you, I appreciate the information!!!, all the best to you.
Movin to Gulfport soon. I hope we have a great experience there! I love the beach!
There's poopoo in the water darling don't do it
@@WhatsUp20201 where do you get that info. If you are talking about those big pipes, that's not a sewage drain off. Those are literally just drain pipes from the gutter drains. They were literally installed after Katrina, to try to prevent that type of flooding again.
@@williamletarte2481 I got the info from wlox dumb ass and oceanography students who researched the barrier islands. But by all means believe the high frequency of flesh eating bacteria has nothing to do with pollution. Specifically sewage
@@williamletarte2481 you're a typical Mississippian in denial of what your government does, why do you think that water front is so underdeveloped? Why you do you think there's always an advisory of for flesh eating bacteria or deadly amoeba, why is that?
@@williamletarte2481 www.onlyinyourstate.com/mississippi/fecal-bacteria-beaches-ms/
At least it wasn’t raining like usual!!!! 😣
Beautiful❤
I was there in April 2021 it was breathtaking. So glad to see it again
Beautiful scenery. Just don't get in the water.
Make u grow some some chest Hair....
I was going to say same thing. I'm from here & NO WAY I would go in that water out front. It's nice further out on other side of the islands but not the beach.
There is a lot of misconceptions about the water. People think because it's murky, that it's dirty. Fact is, the mouth of the Mississippi river, flows into the Mississippi Sound. All that sediment builds up, and can't be washed out because there is not a lot of waves. The reason for this, is because the barrier islands prevent the waves from forming in the sound. That means that all that sediment that settles can't be washed back out. The water in the sound is literally the same water that's on the south and the barrier islands, with sediment added to it.
@@williamletarte2481 Not trying to be argumentative here but that's not at all the reason most locals won't go in the water out front. The real reason is the high bacterial count, the posted warnings about bacteria, & the many people with comprised immune systems who have lost limbs from just wading in that water.
@@williamletarte2481 all the oil , gas and what ever is on hwy 90 flows directly into the water after it rains also. It's not advised to swim in the water until 24 hours after it rains.
The Sip. Hometown girl.
We just went there this summer. Beautiful beach.
Mississippi is getting a Bucees
They have one now,I was just on vacay there.
What is a bucees?
It was a lot more to 👀 before Katrina came and blew everything away
@@MileageMikeTravels so you seen how it looks before then Hwy 90 you was on was full of houses casino's and water parks etc.
@@a.m.617 I actually meant to send that reply to a different comment. I haven’t seen how the area was before Katrina.
@@MileageMikeTravels oh ok sorry bro you can stop at our local news station they'll probably give you a 📀 being that your a cool tourist
Reminds me of my drive to work lol ))
It would have been nice if you had continued over the bridge onto Ocean Springs and its oak tree lined streets.
He made a video of that bridge👇

Yay another one of my favorite States
My favorite part of Biloxi is the casinos !
I see this every day going to and from work, and just gotta say biloxi drivers don't know how to drive 🤣
Nobody knows how to drive anywhere,,,,, any professional driver that drives for a living will tell you that,,, it’s not just here,,,,, no one knows the Rules of the road, everyone speeds and tailgates, they move from lane to lane without looking and putting blinkers on,,, well both lanes of the beach are always full, and all the out of towners here damned sure cannot drive on this beach hwy,,,, they drift over out of lanes to avoid puddles and flooded areas and the worst thing they do is try to turn off of the beach when there are no turning bays and a NO U TURN sign up,,,, Don’t turn off the beach anywhere unless there is a turning bay or you will get rear ended,,,, it happens daily
AMEN TO THAT
Good job 👏
Thanks 😅
I live here lol, you should go to downtown long beach or downtown Ocean Springs they also just built an aquarium
Try it again and this time make the same drive in 8 minutes. That would be some great footage. LOL. This part of the Gulf is one of the nations best kept secrets. It is beautiful.
I was there 3 days ago as well
can you record the I-110 drawbridge? one of the only 9 interstate drawbridges in the usa
I-110 coming soon.
Probably unpopular opinion here but i think Katrina did Beach Blvd a huge favor by taking out all the touristy stuff that used to be along the beach on Hwy 90 (although I did like Sharky's and the pirate ship was pretty cool). I was stationed in a unit based in Augusta, GA but our parent unit was at Keesler. Hwy 90 in those days had casinos and resteraunts and shops and it blocked a lot of the scenery there.
Home Sweet Home
Thx Mike.
At 7:50 into the video,,, that used to be My Beach when I was 9 years old.
But the Air Force Retirement Home wasn’t a Retirement Home.
It was an Off Base Communications Sight, for Air Force Special Security Service.
I lived 3 block down the right turn off Hwy 90.
WoW.
But we were transferred 2 weeks before Camille.
My brothers been back while he was at Kessler but that the first time I’ve laid eye’s on in 50 plus years.
WoW!!!
🤙
So Biloxi is next to Gulfport??
Yes
Biloxi Mississippi 💖
I live in Iuka Mississippi please come vaca to Mississippi 💞
Thanks, Mike!
You're welcome!
Thought you wouldn’t do Mississippi for at least a few months because you said you weren’t doing it anytime soon. Guess you changed your mind? You should do New Orleans, since it’s not far from Biloxi. Or another part of ms
I did end up having a little time to swing through and check out the beach towns. Theres a lot I want to see and cover in New Orleans so I'll probably go there on a separate trip at some other time.
That was fast! I guess there aren’t that much in Alabama lol
Some other cities in the northern part of the state I might check out another time.
@@MileageMikeTravels Did you visit a new state?
My home
Lol I saw a cop on the side of road at 23:24. They need to be out more often. I travel this route every week and rarely see a cop. People drive 70mph in a 45mph zone😃😃
Born in not sworn in B TOWN !Zaydasickest Zaydasickest Zaydasickest
B nicer 2 C the beach instead of road
It would be nice if you narrated the videos. Tell us more about what you are seeing as you go along.
You shouldn't show people nunin...let em keep thinking we all from the woods🤣🤣🤣
Listen, just cus our beaches are more mud than sand and every 5 steps is either a used needle or a crack head doesn't make us that bad
lmaoo
.
And this is why people can't drive here and get into accidents.
Nice view got bored with the video not much see few houses trees to left
34 minutes of a dashcam upload and nothing else. Come on man, put some effort into it.
