Legendary Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser gets a few subtle updates | Chip Foose Draws a Car - Ep. 21
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- The Toyota J-series has roots in military grade Jeeps used in the 1950s, with a style that's become popular around the world. Toyota's most memorable version is the FJ40 Land Cruiser, which harkens back to a time when Toyota's ultimate off road experience didn't coddle occupants with luxury and prestige, instead giving a raw and visceral experience much like that of the Jeep CJs of the era. So how will Chip Foose improve on the original design?

Ford is making the bronco, Toyota should definitely resurrect Fj40
Sadly, the 4Runner-based FJ Cruiser was killed. The Land Cruiser was also recently killed, because people bought the Lexus version more than the Toyota version.
But a "basic" true off-roader remake like an FJ Land Cruiser akin with the Bronco would be nice.
There is a direct successor for the FJ40 that is made to this day and is not sold in North America , but it is in the entire world instead
It’s called the 70 series Landcruiser look it up
The 2 door version is called the J71 Landcruiser

Oh and the landcruiser luxury suv aka the 200 series (soon to be replaced by the 300 series) and the FJ cruiser are still being sold in countries outside the US
@@johneldepresso problem is it’s quite barebones. If they refresh the interior with creature comforts it will outsell any of the upcoming SUV competition
@@johneldepresso, and that there is why the US market sucks. Other markets get the cool models and the cool engines. Suzuki was one of the favorite brands in Puerto Rico. You could buy a Suzuki car for two more years after they left the US market. And the Jimny would be the best seller here. If it weren't for Consumer Reports.
I owned a FJ55 for a few years while living in NH in the early 80's. I worked at a Toyota Volvo dealer. I like what you do.
Love these revampings of old automobiles...And love Hagerty's reviews
28 seconds into the video and shivering from this massive misunderstanding of the Land Cruiser history. 😳
Oh yes :-(
And replacing the Land Cruiser badge by a Toyota one... that's really not understanding the history and evolution of the Land Cruiser.
I really admire Chip, but on this video he did a few strikes. Land cruiser badge, the line of the hood, and let’s not talk about how it was really the Jeep situation.
Yup. Reading the first couple of paragraphs on Wikipedia didn't quite work.
My grandfather was a Navy man who owned a military jeep in the Philippines and after his service, he bought a light blue FJ , same as that picture. He loved that truck and although I was a baby, I subtly remember that FJ in my memories. Faint but I held on to that memory. My grandfather died in his FJ after his truck got involved with a head on collision with 2 passenger busses racing in the middle of the night. It’s a beautiful truck and something I’d want to own nearing the end of my life too one day.
Early FJ40s had round mirrors. At least my 73 does.
yeah, I have a 73 FJ40, it has round mirrors, although I believe they switched to square mirrors and an update to the turn signals in september of 1973.
Yup. Just a round one on the driver side door
My ‘76 did!
So sad that Toyota didn't go with FJ, like Mercedes (Puch) goes with G class. Timeless design, just some added tech touches, here and there...
I actually LIKE this drawing.. Nice job..
Sometimes less is more. Nice updates.
Favourite designer and favourite truck. I’ve got an FJ and I’m taking some cues!
Mr Foose, a massive hero of mine and my stepdaughter. Would love to see his skills on ourAlfa 916 Busso
Would be cool for Toyota to bring back the FJ Cruiser
Chip. I've watched you for a number of years and you still amaze me with your talent . Planishing Hammer or pencil you continue to inspire and impress . Thankyou .
Mr. Foose, sweet take on the old 40 & thanks for sharing. Just for fun, here are a couple tidbits of trivia that you might get a kick out of (both relate to early FJ40's, pre-1965): first, the fender-mounted lamps were a body colored, round metal bucket w/a flush amber lens (similar to your comment and rendering). Second, those early examples also had round side view mirrors very similar to what you've got there (except they mount on a relatively long vertical rod).
Cheers
5:57 coming from the guy who did a custom e-type
He didn't customise the E-type, he turned it into a ferrari. When you consider that Enzo said was the most beautiful car in the world. He even drove a min too
This channel’s content is so good and the music selection is just incredible .
"The vehicle we're all familiar with"
man I wish. I always get "what year is that jeep" or "nice jeep"
I just chuckle and say '72
My dream car dude
Here in rural south brazil, a truck version of this is still sought after and very expensive. We use here to transport cattle, roads here are not so great.
Man, if Toyota just waited a few more years to release the FJ Cruiser, it would be an absolute boom and a real competitor to the new Bronco.
I own a sweet 78 I've had for 26 yrs. love this trk.
This guy. Always impresses me. 👍🏼🤘😎
Took an fj40 and made it look like a Daihatsu Scat
Hey Chip... resto-modding my ‘74 to your drawing... I’ll send pics when we get her out of the paint shop. Thanks for the inspiration!
Chip Foose is getting a haircut in every episode 😂
I see a lot of International Harvester in the original photo.
I wonder if that was on the minds of the Japanese designers.
Thanks for your presentation. I always enjoy these.
Toyota should build that. It looks better than the Fj cruiser.
I have an FJ Cruiser and love it. A great off-roader and comfortable daily driver .
Always stay tuned n love from indonesia brother
Great video!always nice to see chip
Simple and clean 👌🏼
Hey chip keep those videos coming up. Kickass 🤙👍
Great idea! Let’s make it now for 2022.
Anyone else think what ever Chip draws / designs absolutely wrecks the vehicle?
He literally did 2 things to the original design, how tf did he wreck anything?
Chip amazing design as always If nature had a CEO. This would be the Company car. Chip can you do Mercedes W114 coupe next plz thanks
Yeah very cool 😎 Like those FJ’s past and newer.
I have a 76 fj40 project ready for overhaulin’ !!
Saludos desde colombia si podrías hacer un programa del mazda 323 gracias
In Brazil is Toyota Bandeirante!
You took off the front signal lights. Otherwise very nice.I have owned a few of them, tough truck.
the classic toyota bandeirante
Just do it 💪
Always thought Rod Millen's Retro Landcruiser concept was the best update for an FJ40. Toyota said no. Chip Foose has done a lot of vehicles in his time, one more elegant than the next, but his XKE build is just absolutely stunning.
People have always called my 1974 FJ 40 a jeep lol
Such an insult! Haha
I would like to see Chip Foose do two cars. One a Chevy Vega GT and an Avante.
CHIP, PLEASE RENDER 64 BARRACUDA WITH 63 FRONT ...and make it as Italian/Ghia flare as can be done😉...
That would be interesting
Grande bandeirante, isso que é carro
Thanks Chip!
Make me one please! Always wanted to see one on Overhaulin’
They did do an FJ40 on Overhaulin' fairly recently. I was excited to see it.
Leave it alone? Yeah why didn't you?
I seen people all over the internet trying their best to "upgrade / ridiculize " toyotas land cruisers, in most instances they called jeep, even though they see on their front grill displaying TOYOTA, When are they going to STOP heating on these magnificent cars? They are time capsules themselves and nothing and not one ever is going to change that. If for real appreciate these cars, they should leave them the way they really are, why changing this, here and there and on and on, and when they see some one like in this instance driving a decent toyota landcruiser, Why Why they ask if I want to sell it, and what makes me see their insurance or heat which ever you prefer, They have to ask, do you want to sell your jeep or what year is your jeep?
I really don't like to see they try too hard just to make it look like a jeep, Toyota Land Cruiser , Love it or Have it, Take As It Is, it would never be MATCH, I say it, cars maker wish Toyota landcruiser DNA.
I asked for a detailed sketch and he we go...we wanna see the whole process
Hay i love your videos can you please make video for mitsubishi eclipse 2g because we al knows what happen with this beautiful car thank-you
Nice redesign!
lendária Toyota bandeirante
Awesome free hand work !
Fantastic update .
Please do the Chtysler Crossfire
Forgot to slam it, I was surprised
Clean,,,
I would love to see how you would do a jeep grand cherokee wj
Interesting that the Land Cruiser is based on the military Jeeps, yet the name is more akin to the Land Rover.
Goes to show that a loser of the war was able to make an off-roader with a legacy and durability that equals or surpasses those from the winners.
I love Chip's work, but I disagree with the lights on the bumper.. too bug eyed.. my take only....
Every time he calls it an "FJ" it makes my teeth itch. It's called a 40 series (40, 43, 45...) the FJ is an FJ Cruiser. Which isn't a Land Cruiser at all. You can't just remove the fender mounted lights, they're turn signals. Where did they go? Yes, fender flares in the rear (plastic ones that everybody attached with rivets) to clear big tires without a lift. You know how most remakes of classic movies are unnecessary?
The J in the FJ part of the vehicle is representative for the original captured jeep.
It means "Land Cruiser" as in it's a model designation.
@@toy4runr85 sorry but watch Dennis Collins and he will tell you the J in FJ was there to honour the GP Jeep from WW2.
The camera angles where very bad
Why not just use a copy machine. Much faster.
So, this is now the Foose Jeep.
Chingón
Sure hope he does a better job than that 4020 he butchered!
Toyota should have Foose design a retro FJ40 instead of the laughable designs I have seen at car shows.
strange that he uses a cheapie ballpoint pen
IKR a ball point is not what I pictured an artist using.
Remove the top
@mrlandcruisier
jeepney'pinoy'
🙄
Please for the love of God, someone break fooses hands or something
Someone donate some eyeballs to this guy ^
Sometimes less is more. Nice updates.
