Why Would Anybody Buy A Scion FR-S?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 лип 2017
- Today I finally drive the 6 speed manual Scion FR-S!
This one costs half as much as my Nismo 370Z....So, is it an awesome budget sportscar?
I've always liked the Scion FR-S but never really thought it was worth buying brand new. Unfortunately after a few years the sales didn't do to well for the car after the initial rush of enthusiast bought it. The lack of acceleration is the biggest downfall, especially on a car costing $27,000!!
But used for around $17,000? Now that sounds more like it!..... Or does it?

As of this year, the Scion FR-S is the most reliable, gas efficient and customization "on a budget" car.
Yeah it's a great car for the money. Super cheap now and a lot of fun in the turns
Yup
Did you forget Miata??
@@anthonye3680 The first generation Miata are “Classics” and are also reliable convertibles. Great car for a budget build & cruise 🚢 🤟🏾
This car is banging I don’t know what problem people have with it. It’s beautiful.
That's so true. The FRS/BRZ/86 is a lot of fun and I don't look at it as being slow at all. It's almost too quick for me but that's because I live in a high traffic city. Anything with more than 300 hp is just too much in heavy traffic imo. I love my FRS it's like a go cart from hell.
Viking Warrior Exactly
Viking Warrior people just don’t know how to improve car need supercharger and there is a lot more fun
@@AndySo2000 The FRS isnt even close to 300. Although it would be nicer at that number.
Non of your business Non of your business i would prefer a turbo because you floor it more on a 86 but a supercharger would be PERFECT for instant power
The younger generation is so jaded on horsepower...when I was a young man, if a car was able to pull off a sub 8 second 0-60 it was considered pretty darn quick. And the BRZ in any of its variants is a sub 7 second 0-60. Not slow at all. Make no mistake, it will get you a ticket any time you want one lol. Having said all that, yes some additional power would be nice, but I could say that about any car I have ever owned including my long gone 98 corvette which was a seriously quick car for its time. So, if you are THAT jaded, dont buy one...but it really is a car you can live with long term. Its quick enough, economical to operate, and fun to drive, and comfortable enough to be a do it all daily driver. Subaru did a nice job with the compromises they made. Regardless of what the detractors might say about it, it is a wonderful car.
thomas womack lmao people want a sub 5 0-60 for under 20k don’t know how to appreciate a fun little car meant for the twisty roads
The dreaming a 270hp car , weighing 1100kg would sell for 20k brand new
I actually just bought an FRS and after owning one and test driving the automatics. I got the manual and it's pretty quick, it's not a muscle car. But don't be mislead by what people say. The FRS/BR/86 is pretty quick and not slow what so ever! It's fast enough for me, it sounds good, and it handles very well. I've wanted to get one since they were introduced. I use to have a second gen tC and the FRS is big step up out of that car for sure. I like the Z but they're a little more expensive plus I live in Seattle so I can't really drive it more than 80 mph on rare occasions.
As great looking as this car is, and considering how low it's power is compared to modern sports cars, I'd say it's the perfect candidate for a project car. Maybe Scion produced it with less than impressive power to encourage tuners to modify it's performance. It has perfect design in my opinion.
its the ego at play, i know kids that dont even have a car and call everything that looks nice but doesnt have 200+ hspwr a ricer lol theyre pathetic to me
I’m so happy to own a Scion FR-S. Even though it’s slow it’s the driving and handling that makes you fall in love with it every day
Yo what’s good I’m looking to buy one rn but I’m under 25 and I’m afraid ab my insurance, any advice??
DJoy go under your parents policy if possible, will save you so much money in the long run and obviously take care of your license. No points= better insured in the future. I’m 20 and haven’t had a ticket so far *knock on wood
@@_danieljr is that car a good first car?
How is the reliability? Im thinking of buying one
Smoked that moped.
sammy wright LOL! Hilarious.
The frs/brz/gt86 is more of a fun to drive car, than a fast car. It is made as a successor of the Toyota AE86.
This car is great for drifting through the mountain passes of japan
The frs has to be one of the best looking platforms
The Scion FRS is better looking then the new Toyota 86
True dat.
I don't really see the difference between the two
My tC will pace this and sit more ppl. Maybe doesn't look as good but paid much less.
For nothing I'm able to tune the crap out of it cause it's Cheaper, much much cheaper to buy and to tune, insurance also. You can get an 06 for a few grand put 10 into it and wreck all of these cars described. And still save money. Best part the tc is 100% toyota made and has one of their best engine/man trans. All this makes the tc a much better buy in everyway imho
Call me crazy, but i honestly think this is one of the best looking cars of the last decade. The designers got it right and there isn't a bad line on it. Being that it lacks any real power, it's a great candidate for a project car. Maybe Scion was encouraging performance modifications with it's low factory power? I'm seriously considering getting one of these and turning it into a real sports car.
Its the god damn same car
The FR-S is meant more for Japan than America, a small island made of mountains.
Lili G wouldn't call it a small island considering the fact that Tokyo is the largest city in the world
*Yah, largest city in the world in one of the smallest countries in the world...*
payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/16982/594575/SizeComparison-Japan-US-670.png This is a comparison compared to the US. It's really not that small. Far from the smallest country in the world.
R33 Skyline GT-R in Japan, most car guys drive on mountain pass (narrow too), not Tokyo. This car is a spiritual successor to the legendary AE86 which won races and was under powered and AFFORDABLE so there was a cult built around it (less affordable nowadays though)
R33 Skyline GT-R Well you can cram alot of people into one space. I'm pretty sure the Majority of Japan is not filled with Millions of people in one place :/
I'm actually getting my dream car this year which is a 16' FRS, I honestly don't care bout the speed, for me it's about the looks of the car
Very cool! Congrats!! It’s not fast, but handles incredible! Certainly a great sportscar without the power!
I had a 370. I got rid of a 370. Power isn't the full story. You can't see out of the thing. Being 6ft with the seat as low as it would go I NEVER saw anything but the roof liner out of the rear view mirror. The seats are horrible, the metal bar from the headrest stabbing you in the back gets old fast. Never in my two+ years of owning that car could I get comfortable. The entertainment/nav was junk, it was unnecessarily load with road noise from all directions. Best of luck figuring out the fuel gauge too. Want to see miles remaining & outside temp at the same time? Too bad. Clunky doors, bad seats, noise noise noise made it one of the worst cars I've owned. This coming from a guy who drove an S2000 for 5 years then a S2000 CR for 4 years. Drove the FRS... Reminded me of the difference between a sports car and a muscle car like the 370. Power... no matter how much cannot make a good car and the 370 is a perfect example. The 86 platform is the better car. I regret not getting one back then.
Jason McCutcheon so is the frs good or not ? Im looking forward to getting my first car and seeing these hate comments kinda makes me double think everything
Jose Castillo same
Jose Castillo I have the 2013 frs and I really love it. I would get it if your ok with a 3 seater. it can hold 4 passengers but the guy behind you will hate life
Maybe your big ass needs a truck
Michael Finney thinkin about getting one soon? It really worth it?
3rd gear accelerating to 60 in this car is like driving normal. you should be in 2nd at least. you have no business testing its acceleration under 3k RPM lol. all the max power is reached at 6k-7k. Sounds like youre shifting at like 6k like you would do your Z because that's where your Z makes power. top of 2nd should hit 60. not into 3rd.
Bee Xiong agreed. I have 2017 Toyota 86 860 SE and my 0-60 is a tad bit under 6 seconds.
he's no where near 6k when he shifts ... laughable
I was gonna say, he's not treating this car how it needs to be
@Mark Rexter Cando what rpm should you be shifting on the 86
@@zureai 6k-7k. :) - Mark
The unbiased views are very appreciable, good job (on this and other vids)
Thanks!
An OFT tune, headers and E85 is what most us 86 owners do to solve the power issue. All under $1000 and your making at least 30hp over stock. Your still not blown away by the power, but the car definitely has a much better acceleration with those simple mods.
In Canada unfortunately we don't have E85..funny because we are one of the world's largest suppliers of corn. So forced induction is the only route really.
Even without E85 you will still get 18 hp on 93 and about 25 lb ft torque at 4000 rpm. And you lose 25 pounds off the front wheels. No more torque dip and far more top end. Money well spent. 25 lb-ft torque boost with 25 pounds less weight is a nice push for the FRS.
you act as if the 370z doesnt have a tune and mods for it, it has dual intakes, will far exceed the frs to pull power from with basic bolt ons.
letsroll why does every z fanboy think power is all thst matters
Letsroll, You can also take out the headliner, passenger seats and carpet then the Z will only weigh 250 pounds more than the FRS. You will also throw off the weight balance even more shifting more weight to the front of the car. You still have to mod the steering, and gearbox and somehow move the drivers seat back. Then maybe, just maybe the Z will handle more like a true sports car and not like a short wheelbase slammed sedan that it truly is..
Welp if this car is faster than my car, I'm fine with it lol
exactly I just upgraded to an frs from a corolla and I cant stop driving it and its fast to me.. but like I said I upgraded from a corolla so I guess its relative
Sambojanglez I got an 05 corolla, how does it compare to it?
Sambojanglez nice I have a 2011 Camry and want to buy a 86 for my next car.. how are you like your frs? Do you daily drive it?
@@raftika1 frs definitely more louder and faster, such a fun lil car!
I started getting into cars when I was in highschool like majority of gearheads. that was late 90's-early 2000s. Back then 5.0L mustangs and your buddies gutted hatchback was considered "fast". I am glad I grew up in that era because it seams that todays generation doesnt even need to see the car, they just want to see high a horsepower number. I love my FRS, It excites me everyday. I scare the shit out of my passengers and it "only has 200 hp"
Really great to see reviews like this who will give you the good AND the bad, not just hate or love on it all day. I'm thinking about buying this car, and sure the slower acceleration is a bit dissappointing. But I do a lot of freeway driving so it's not like I'm jumping from 1st gear much. Looks so damn sexy though and Scion's are so affordable :)
Great video man, I clicked Subscribe because of this legit review
Appreciate the support!!
this is a nice video for someone looking into an FRS
That's why I made it lol. Fun car overall
Minor but necessary mods for this car are a header catback and tune. Really wakes it up. And if you really need more power there are lots of super charger and turbo kits for it.
okay to compare a Nissan 370z NISMO TO A STOCK NORMAL FRZ ITS COMPLETELY IDIOTIC.
It won’t matter in the end because the Frs will always be slower
@@maxlepord What? Incorrect. You can mod any car to be faster than the other
Diego Cash please read the comment again. Do you see the word stock?
Anthony Romero always?
@@maxlepord Speed won't matter when the Toyota will still be on the road running lol
I rather drive a car at it's full potential and this is why I bought my GT86 over the Nissan. Nissan has power, but it feels like a boat. It is really heavy. Like the saying goes "rather drive a slow car fast, than having a fast car driving slow" The handling is great on the 86. Once I added my UEL headers and my exhaust it gets rid of that torque dip and the power is more consistent. The Aftermarket on this is car is amazing. There's a lot of improvement you can do. But every car has it's pros and cons. Like I tell people just buy a car that makes you happy. Both cars are amazing. Enjoy your cars rev your engines and remember someone out there has a faster car lol ;)
Elysian562
Dude, your BRZ ways more.
And yet, it's still SMALLER.
Little logic are you just stupid or? The 370z is heavier lol
The Z is 3200 pounds....how the fuck is that a boat? A boat is like the challenger weighing over 5000 pounds. I get that youre salty that you overpaid for a 4 cylinder but dont spout bullshit.
METALLIFY16 i enjoy my frs. Its not a bad car at all?
it doesn't matter the fr-s sucks. my grandmothers Riviera will fuck it up.
I bought my 2013 brand new, the only problem I've had is the transmission went out on me last year, so it lasted about 6 years before ANY repairs. Now I do have another issue, the driver's side door will not lock/unlock with the keyfob. I have to lock/unlock manually. But that's it! Love my "Sickspeed"!
Another thing is that the extra power from the z comes at the expense of fuel efficiency. Granted that you don't get sports cars for fuel efficiency.....the difference is of note. Specially if it's a daily driver.
Actually I easily get 31mpg on the highway and 21 city. So for so much more power than an FR-S, MPG is close enough.
Bros FOURR Speed is that per trip computer? Or actual miles on the odo vs. fuel put in? My buddy complains about how he gets low 20's for his 370z's MPG.
www.fuelly.com/car/nissan/370z friends findings are similar to what people have reported.
BRos fourr Speed,
I can easily get 29 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway on my manual BRZ. In fact I have averaged 28 mpg from new. I get 39 mpg at 55 mph and 34.5 mpg at 75 mph. You cant fight physics. Lighter more aerodynamic car with a smaller engine and economy tires gets the best miledge. The Auto will do even better with a light foot on the highway. I got 25 mpg when drifting in the snow.
Great review👍 if I had a choice for a used budget sports car, I think I'd have to go with an frs again, and supercharge it again. I've grown very fond of boost. Although I've driven both a base z and nismo. I loved them both, but I think I'd really only buy the nismo. I was close to doing so, but at the time my picky ass had to have a new car, and 50k was crazy to me. It's funny though cuz now my frs is basically a 45k car after modding it. Oh the choices we make.
Hey dude , really good thorough review. Nice job.
Thanks!
Bought one a few months ago, absolutely love it. I'm 6'2" and got some room to spare, very comfortable. The acceleration tho 😬 as I like to say, drop a gear and stay tf here
haha that's a funny one! Fun little cars tho!
How would you compare the handling of the 86 vs your old and your new 370z? Also the evora vs the 370z. I'd like to see a handling comparison video. Thanks
What do you think as the Frs being a first car?
I’m buying a used 2013 model soon and I gotta say I’m okay with trading base power for handling as I plan on doing engine mods. Gotta say very interested in this car still. Especially since the engine seems to sound very nice
Aside from the power, for the price as a used car. It's amazing! Very fun to just toss around in the corners
Im saving up for a used brz or frs as my first car.
Nice! That's a great start!
Agreed, great start. Don't mod it until you pay it off
@@wr3kless actually I had a change of plans. Inherited a 79 F150 from my dad
Well I can definitely relate to this video. Just sold my 2015 FRS for a 2016 Nismo tech in red. I couldn't afford a Z period when I was 20 so I feel like it was the perfect choice at the time. Absolutely no complaints other than the fact that you really have to push it to it's limit in order to get it moving on the highway. I'll never forget the lightweight, agile, and nimble handling though. Tbh, if you invest in coils, wider tires and wheels, full exhaust and supercharger...you'll end up with a car that's better than the Z in every way.
I found a clean title, manual, one owner frs on sale for $10,998 a while ago. And it was sold before I contact the dealer.
Thanks! Finally seen one today and had to look it up.
Looks/reminds me of a Datsun Z, from the 80's. DEFINITELY Sporty Looking! Thanks and have a Good One! SIDE PIPES! WOULD LOOK GREAT ON ONE! THANKS!
Great looking car for sure!
the beauty is that toyota made is really accessible to put more power in this car. tunes can get rid of a lot of torque dip, and the aftermarket for the 86 is absurdly large.
I plan on getting a frs as a daily it has decent gas mileage and I drive 60 miles a day, they go for around 12 -14k I don’t really care about acceleration all too much on the daily as I’m going to be building a e46 pretty soon
Nice review sir!
Thanks!
Hopefully getting this as my college car!
How’s it on gas?
I took my new brz on an 18 hour road trip. It was fairly conformable, but not conformable enough to make me sleepy, I also took a lot of stuff with me. Its surprisingly roomy
Very nice to hear! It's a good sized car for sure and really offers a lot especially for the money!
why your neck so long
Lmaoo
Lmaoo
HAHAHHA
Its a g fraffe
Lmaoooooo
I dont agree with you that people are usually hating it or "fanboying" over it. Many praise it for handling and then say it's slow. Some praise it for handlibg and looks and relative practicality. Some complain about the torque dip. Some have said it's perfect and more power would spoil it, some have said it could use another 20hp. The common denominator amongst pretty much all reviewers though, is that it handles well and put a smile on your face
Who accelerates at the speed you are going in 3rd gear?
is this a good car to just get around and drive anywhere as in running errands ? also does it drive smoothly, im really into that but im not really about the acceleration nor racing. I just want to get to point A to point B
Julia Cano just get a Camry or something then. This is supposed to be a budget “sports” car
get a bicycle
What is that song in the beginning
looking to buy one this year
I sure enjoyed doing donuts in my '13 BRZ (also manual, I've only ever seen one automatic version of these cars in my area.)
Very cool! They are so lightweight to spin around in!
Omg this is my video 😍😍
Your in Mooresville I live right beside that place that’s awesome
Mac Brickey
Im in Charlotte ayeeee
I was deciding between a BRZ & 370z.. I went with a 370z a few grand more but waaay more fun for sure! Acceleration is addicting lol and handling isn't bad. Only thing is the blind spots! Can't get used to them. Great vid man. Subbed 😃
He'll yeah dude, just bought my red 370z last week and almost collided with a Camry two days ago because I didn't see the car. gave me a heart attack because I bought my baby a week ago lol. gotta invest on the little circle mirror on the side view mirror lol
You have to adjust your side mirrors, with the rear view mirror its a given because the rear hatch window doesn't show much visibility.
I have a 2016 Z and i readjusted my side mirrors to where i can see the whole other lane to the left and right of me and have never missed a car when changing lanes..
What's the mpg?
What year is it???
Check out this Scion FRS with a Full Race Turbo kit ua-cam.com/video/AoYW9s6kxak/v-deo.html
Scion FR-S are going for dirt cheap around my area, I’m talking about 10-12k USD with 30-50k miles on the dash.
frs is more of a run car rather than a fast car, and you can do anything to it
you are so stupid. if you don't have power to push you in your seat. than its just another car. no thank you. there is plenty of slow and fun cars out there. just like the fr-s again just another car
didn't drive one, eh?
Mike Hernandez you are so stupid. The frs/gt86/brz is a fun car made for twisty roads. It’s also a nice blank canvas for people who want to get one as a project car, shut the fuck up hating on every comment I see. Respect people’s opinions.
For a collection I would honestly have an frs in a collection+370z and m4 didn't want a 370z from this channel I found you looking at videos
If you're buying this car for "put you in your seat" acceleration then you are a moron anyways. I got one because it's a beautiful car, it's comfortable, sounds good with aftermarket exhaust, and is pretty "quick" and fun to drive while still being an economical daily driver since I commute 50 miles a day. If I wanted to race everyone on the street I wouldn't have bought this car. Luckily I have cbr 600 for that and will pull on any mid range sports car out there from a Corvette down. Have reasonable expectations. For it's price it's worth the money as long as you aren't using it for the wrong reasons.
I love being a moron.
I really like this review even after watching almost hundreds of others but WHY does everyone have to constantly talk about the acceleration? I understand that it is definitely a factor in the build of the vehicle but I don't think that's what the FR-S is about. I've had three cars with four cylinder engines and I've driven MANY other vehicles. Four cylinder engines are the most rewarding to me. With a v8, you have so much engine you can only use just a bit of without a drag strip. Same with a v6. With a 4, you can almost use the entire capacity of the engine within legal limits. That's what makes it fun.
he never even revved it past 5k rpm why would he say he was trying to accelerate hard when everyone knows the peak torque is above 6000 rpm its like shifting a motorcycle at 7k... why would you call that accelerating hard when the redline is so much higher and the next gear shift will be put back in the powerband if you shift at redline
headers and n1 exaust, tuned. my favorite!
Yeah they sound good with some mods!
Thanks man
I'm very torn between the 370z and the 86. they are both beautiful looking cars, the 370z has the acceleration I really crave but a 2 seater is impractical for me (and not to mention the insurance.) The 86 on the otherhand is much more practical and I would say is better as a sporty daily driver, but of course the acceleration is lacking. of course I could always slap a turbo on the bad boy in a couple years ;)
Buy the FRS for almost half the price as a 370 and then Turbo or supercharge it for another 4-5k dollars and then you'll have something that will definitely compete with those higher end coupes
I sold cars for a few years. My used car manager would choose me to demo drive the sports/muscle cars for his clients because I knew how to drift them without going overboard. I always brought the clients back a little wobbly with a big smile on their face. I've driven:
S2k, Civic Si, Integra type R
FRS/FRSauto/BRZ
RX7 FB, FC, FCauto, RX8, NC mx5
WRX, STI
370z, G35auto, G37auto, r32 gtr with upgraded turbo
Camaro 2SS
Mustang Gt 5.0 coupe and convertible
others I can't recall atm
I chose an 2014 FRS with 60k km (38k miles)for $14kCAD/$11kUSD. So far I've chosen not to put a header on it or increase the final drive since it's primary function is as a fun, economical, daily driver. I could put a catless on it but then it would smell like gas. The previous owner lowered it a little and put wide summers on rims. It's only ankle height but with winter tires on the stock rims it worked fine for me this winter in Southern Ontario (think Michigan weather). I've driven many base 370s at my old Nissan dealership. Buying the Nismo made no sense to any of us. You want the sport package for $2k over the base model. It gives you better brakes and an LSD. The FRS has a torsen standard. Both cars will drift a tight corner with ease. I enjoyed all the cars in that list, and I was close to choosing a used Cayman for under 20kUSD. The money wasn't a huge issue and financing wasn't needed. Ultimately there isn't a wrong answer here unless you get a car in bad condition because you have stretched your budget too far. Protip, the 2013 has a bad valve spring recall that was made worse by the shitty techs who botched the job half the time. 2014 is fine. Other than that, the car is Corolla reliable and has an unlocked ECU. If you care, the Open Flash Tablet will give you a little more midrange and let you disable the traction control (peddle dance mode). Header, Open Flash Tablet and e85 will get you a good 20% more power for $2gs with labor. Without E85 its only about 10% for the same cost. The FRS sells for less than the BRZ and has a stiffer rear suspension. It costs about the same as a comparable year and mileage Camry.
Cool man. They are all really fun cars for sure! After owning a Sport 370z and then the Nismo. From an owners perspective, the Nismo was a night and day difference in how connected it felt. And they hold value way better. So I actually lost more money on my sport mode then my Nismo. SO have more money tied into it, but you'll end up selling it for barely any loss compared to the normal cars. Fun times with this!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed That's fair, I've never driven the Nismo and the reality is that if it comes from factory the way you'd mod it yourself then your way ahead of the game. Power numbers are only part of the story.
Whats the soong at 0:40
I have to admit that it didnt seem like u revved it really high (thats where the power is)
But still its not the fastest at all
I got to redline a few times. There just is no power in it, at all
That 370 Zetto are so beautiful
Im 6 2 and fit comfortably with lot of headroom left
The paint is in very good condition for 40k miles, wow! Interior too! Looks new on camera.
Kromeification Yeh this car is in beautiful condition!
Honestly if the FRS kept up its acclaimed 17ish initial base price this car would be one of the best selling cars amongst high schoolers, but with it being that expensive used there are other better options that are more practical and stronger accelerating
Is it a good idea to do a muffler delete? Literally! I will have the muffler saw off and have them weld two pipes? 200 vs 500+ for the nismo
My friend sprayed when drag racing this car w the stock exhaust and blew off a muffler and it’s extremely loud now
My friend has a tuned FR-S my oldsmobile keeps up with it there not that fast
17500 dollars 2nd hand or new? In the netherlands you'd pay 54000 stock for a new one and 30xxx for 2nd hand
Will i have hard time finding body parts for Scion since toyota don't make them anymore?
Probably not. Most of the parts are identical to the Toyota 86. And there are a ton of shared parts within the Toyota lineup
You don't get everywhere you need to go in a straight line. It's funny , if you change the badge ,or crest on the hood people would say it's groundbreaking, quick ,and agile.
Most honest bang for buck, even today, is the HR 350Z. 70 is way too pricey for next to no gains, and 86 is hella slow compared to Z's.
I want to get the 370z but the blind spots, idk which car to get
Bro get a 370z lmfao the blind spots don’t bother me ever and I thought it was gonna be very bad
Brz/86 looks better than the Z imo... also if you’re gonna review the brz/86 go to the hills or winding roads see which one handles better..
I’m gonna be honest this might be my first car so I don’t really a super fast car
It would be an awesome first car!
Same also because the insurance company loves that it’s not super fast
Here is a thought.. How tall are you..? In my perspective you might be around 5'9"-5'10".. For me (6'3") whenever I sit in a 370z i have to put the seat all the way back and I still don't have any headroom plus the back of the seat rubs on the back of the plastic, not built for tall people.. The Genesis when it first came out I was so hyped about it but when I got the chance I was disappointed due to I can't fit at all due to the moonroof as standard, the seat doesn't go all the way to the floor as the FRS/BRZ/86.. The FRS/BRZ doesn't have any moonroof, it has standard seats that resemble like the 370z's recaros, and with a few tweaks from the world of aftermarket, it can regain its torquey feel with a unequal length header and exhaust and much better tires; better grip and lose some more weight in the process.. All in all said The FRS/BRZ/86 can be a much better car than the other two if you put time into it. Sure the others will be faster but if you are out there just to have fun power isn't everything..
An frs goes for 14k where i live
Really like styling of this car. Acceleration is kinda disappointing...
Yeah it’s so fucking slow I had to super charge mine ASAP
i just bought my FR-S for 16k with 18k miles it is not bad but when accelerating you get the most power at the high rpms. you should shift into 3rd at 60mph. 60 is the top of 2nd. but the FR-S does have better handling then most cars. when you drive one you realize that you can control it a lot better than most cars and that is where it excels
the FR-S is also a big tuner car it might not get as much power as a mustang or 370 but it looks great and has huge support for the car if you want to go with power or if you want to add a wide body
One huge thing the FRS and the BRZ have over many of the cars in this class is looks. The Z looks like the Box the FRS came in. As drab as the twins are on the inside they make up for it on the outside. My BRZ is 5 years old. I get complements every day. Most people still do not know what it is. Many people have never seen one.
fatboy19831 really?
This car can take on other higher class cars with mods, won't beat them but just shows how it can be a good modified car
This car is underpowered but it has allot of potential especially with so many aftermarket parts
It really is a shame ppl are not more aware of what the 86 platforms provide as a drivers car, it was never about flat out 0-60 times or racing in a straight line... this car has a near perfect performance to weight ratio with a amazing handling chassis. It’s about holding top speed while taking turns and still being in control of the car and not crashing within 2 seconds of going into a turn even when not pushing it compared to other “sports” cars. If you want straight line performance get a mustang aka crowd killer or any car with high power that still can’t turn worth a damn! I down graded from 07 mustang GT (300 hp) to a eclipse GT (265 HP) to a FRS in wanting of better handling and I’ve never wanted to get in my car and jus drive for the hell of it so much before.
Beautiful car
I'm 6 3 how tall are you worried about space.
Branson Bates same I'm 6'5. Really want the car tho
Don Chepe I’m 6’1 and I’m pushing it. I wouldn’t get it as a daily if I was you
Xavier Roman tf bro, does the car even go at that point
I'm 6'2 and just bought a 86. I fit perfectly. And I have long legs with a medium torso
Scion FRS is the car that allows you to have fun on public roads without getting points on your license.
Very true!! Good handling and has some fun characteristics!
Miata(NA/NB) + Turbo or V6/V8 Engine swap should be less than $17,500 either way.
My wife’s RAV4 took off his POS out in 5mph roll
Lol, the new Gt86 feels a lot peppier and quicker! It’s not a fast car by any means, but handles incredible!
Hell yes! I have a frs and got it for the same price 💨💨💨
Awesome! Fun toy for that price
nah u dont buy this car to leave it stock, u supercharge it and get roughly 300hp, giving it a 0-60 of about 4.9, similar to the 370z
Not even close to a Z. Noob
It wasn't factory-released with a super charger. Blowing hot air into this engine not designed for that could be bad idea.
The rear seats are only there for insurance
Got this idea from Michael Luzzi he had a frs and then bought a 370z nismo
But 370z and Porsche Cayman is the same. It's called torque. That lack of shove is torque. A very common trait in NA engines and especially in Boxer engines. I have a over 100k Cayman GTS (check my channel), and it STILL suffers from the same trait. No torque. But I like it that way, still pulling faster than a M3 but with smooth and less punch. Not like the 86 has so significant lack of troque compared to a 370 or a 981. It's "fine" on public roads.
I am thinking of getting an FRS as a project car or just a beater for drift days or track days.
People just need to chill on the power and torque. The car is fine as it is. I rather have this exist than a 20 to 30 percent more expensive car with 50 more power and torque.
Easy to fix it al you need to put turbo or supercharger
did someone say frs?
Is the Parking Break Up???
How tall are you? Need to know for comparison
I'm 5'10''.
