We speak to the team behind the tractor in part 1 of this series, with more from Guy Martin coming in part 2 as they chase the world record!
This is a press video, not a TV or JCB video. It was being filmed for TV meaning no press drones allowed, no press cameras allowed into the tractor and a restriction on how close we were allowed to the track.

In 1932 an Allis Chalmers Model U “farm tractor” clocked 67.667 mph, a speed record that went unchallenged for 81 years.
all I wanted was to HEAR the damn thing run....

I enjoyed the informative view of the machine. Although I would really like to see some raw video of the run with no music to hear that diesel!

So much innovation...... They could have added more boost, fueling and timing and added another 15 maybe even 20 mph. they held back..... That being said, Well done gentleman

It's soo heavily modified that you can't call that a tractor anymore. The record classification rules need to be revisited.
Yes, the criteria that it has the cultivate or plough a set amount, and then set the record with minimal modifications (at least let them swap the tires, as I doubt a standard field tyre would be a safe ride at high speed)

It’s an engineering exercise, improving power, efficiency and durability lessons learnt for the future the fact they get 1000hp out of what starts as a standard engine is epic
@@neilbowness6074 to be fair it's a 7l diesal with a turbo charger and a super charger.... It's hard to not get 1000 hp from that
Dissapointing video. No footage of the run from outside or inside, didn't hear the thing run, and Guy was virtually whisked away after stepping down from the cab...
After all this great buildup about how this tractor was specially built for this one thing, I can't help wondering what some of the modified pulling tractors (especially the multi-engined methanol ones!) would do trying this; just change the gearing?!
Tractor brakes are always way more powerful than they need to be anyways so it was an awesome idea to keep the same brakes
Sure it’s not really a tractor if it has racing seats and no normal controls in the cab ,diffent wheels it’s more of a fasttruck

I've just checked and this is a world record, not just a British record.
What is the fastest fully functional tractor ?
I believe the JCB Fastrac 3230 Xtra, I just checked and it said they can hit

I think Valtra did one. Its a normal tractor but the gearbox gearing is changed and the used a computer to change engine parameters. I think ii did 80ish MPH.
Some of the Big Fendts would be in the running for fastest functional Tractor.
If they get all brands of tractors start making them like JCB and going to start racing with them sort of tractors and they racing teams

Great to see new videos with Guy Martin but this is like one long advertisement of some shitty diesel dragster. Swap it to a turbo charged petrol and you'll have a beast.
It would not be hard to destroy that record with a Super Stock pulling Tractor .. They have 3,000 to 5,000 HP .. Have a Roll cage just need solid front end the right tires and the right gearing..
there are home build tractors that would smash 103mph with ease lol
He says a thousand horsepower but every other video I've watched it says it's well over a thousand horsepower like 1,600 hp

I wanna say an alis chalmers at around 60mph. Not sure, but one of them set a record ages ago. But I don't know whether it was the one before the traktor?
@@Tom3230_.. it was the trak tor from top gear at 87.2mph in 2015 but it wasn't even a real tractor it was a chevy blazer chassis with a v8 and big wheels so is it a real tractor still? is this one even a real tractor anymore??😏🤔 seems abit of a cheat really.

It was a Valtra and Nokian tyres collaboration, The tractor hit 86mph but was in snow an remote control so it is much mor impressive in my eyes

My car (Volkswagen Jetta) identifies as a tractor. It was assigned the wrong vehicle identity at time of manufacture (leaving the factory) and therefore is eligible for the World's fastest tractor.
Nothing at all by way of information as to what they did to obtain tyres that are capable of doing 100 MPH plus on a "tractor".
Nor did you see Guy actually driving. I think they meant to put “some guy”.

@@mikeskidmore6754 I had to go to agricultural tyre dealer specialist publications to find out what was used for this record attempt :- 400/80 R 28 Ride Max by BKT Tyres by all accounts. These apparently are normally D speed rating (40 mph) but had been especially buffed down in the tread area supposedly to lighten tyre weight (that's as maybe but I will bet it was also to reduce heat generation as well) by reducing the tread depth of the blocks. Whilst aircraft tyres would certainly have the speed capability needed, they are not designed to take traction or torque and must be regarded as a very much unknown quantity when used so far outside their specialist design window?

Watched because of Guy, where was the run?? And how much of this 'British' tractor is MADE here in the U.K. ?? I also think this should have to be the standard size machine, the next man could come along with a smaller and lighter version of the fast track, put 1000hp under the hood and break the record, the record should be how fast can a 'real' fast track be made to go ???

JCB built a racing car. A bulky one, sure, but it stopped being a fastrac a long time ago. If you go through the video noting what differs from it's name sake you'll see what I mean.

A tractor is defined by having pto and a hydraulic 3 point linkage.
At least valtra used a tractor for their land speed record.
Jcb did not. Using a stock engine and crank and modified rear axle isn't really a tractor is it?

Yeah, but ask JCB why they withdrew Jones and Campbell, Iron Founders in Larbert, Central Scotland from producing the iron castings, then the foundry had no option but to close in 2002, making over 400 highly skilled people unemployed,... JCB says they are British, but import parts from all over the globe,..... pathetic.
