My grand-grand fathers and uncles were trench soldiers.(A Fleming) After the gaz attacks the English soldiers came to the farm of my grand grand mother en father and they helped them giving them new clothes, cleaning them and gaving them shelter and food and company. My grand mother learned them how to play piano. My grand-grand uncle couldn't speak about it, he was traumatized and designed a crown for the Maria Statue in the cathedral of Antwerp, it is still there. To thank God he survived this war.

I don't think the minds of men at war are any different. My grandpa was ww2 vet he fought in the navy and one of his missions was D-Day. He said after the firing had stoped they were driving in tanks, his tank operator went crazy and started driving over bloated dead bodies to hear them pop. He had PTSD extreamly bad bud wouldn't talk about it. When I'd wake him up it was by shaking his foot or yelling grandpa from his door. He was cold man but a good one and raised me well.

Apparently only in well established sections of trench there were duckboards (the wood you walk on) oftentimes it was mud below foot.

its not gonna be like this anymore itll be alot more complex and instead of worrying about getting shot in the head while sleeping, or a trench collapsing on you youd have to worry about getting mowed down by a fighter plane

Much respect to you for making this video, and bringing to live what life was like in the trenches, but please stop calling these people kids, they were mature men (as most were men and women but majority fighting were men) who had earnt that right not only by age but for what they had gone through not to be called kids.

"Walk a mile in their shoes." NOBODY could walk a mile in their shoes. The bloody things were so cheap, they just fell apart as soon as they got wet. That's where "trenchfoot" gets it's name.
Also, "Remember what they did for US," is an overused line. Canada wasn't in danger of being attacked in that war. We joined because Britain joined. We went to serve OTHERS, not ourselves. THAT is why we remember.

Can't forget the corpse rats, that feasted on the bodies of the dead soldiers.
Or the log that soldiers would sit on, in place of a proper latrine, on a regular basis.
Also can't forget the ever present reality of staying away from low places, for when the gas shells from enemy artillery made their way into the craters and trenches.
