Got my UCX ii a week and a half ago and I am loving it so far. Perfect hub for my home studio. Lots more real world testing to do but so far I have to conclude that it does everything RME says it does. Connectivity and feature set is great and preamps are totally transparent and clean. Furthermore with some poor recent experience of trying to get one of RME’s competitor’s high end interface to work before giving up and moving to this one, I can report that the drivers of the UCXii and Totalmix FX worked straight away with no fuss and that they continue to burst into life every time I turn it on. This sounds like something you should be able to take for granted but having being using a bunch of different interfaces over the years (and having tried 4 different interfaces this year alone) this is not always the case. A friend had the brilliant UFX+ so I knew I could rely on RME to deliver. Great job as always RME!

I don't own any RME product but am considering this. As far as I can see, the good software aside the biggest selling point for me is the fact that this company seem to be making "It just will work" products. I absolutely hate it when something that I'm used to using breaks and repairing is expensive or a pain.
Hi there! RME gear is relied upon by industry professionals around the world for that specific reason: it does the job and it does it faultlessly. RME are also well known for updating their drivers for every new operating system, meaning that hardware from as far back as 2001 still works with the latest OS! If you're in the UK, buying through a UK authorised dealer means you can sign up for a five year warranty, which is how sure both RME and we are that the unit will perform time and time again!
Just got my UCX 2 yesterday .Its an expensive interface compared with certain competitors, so im counting on it to work until UCX 3 will be released in about 10 years :-). I had bought the new Babyface FS pro just before The UCX 2 was released, But I swapped them. To my ears the Babyface sounds just as good as UCX 2, if not better. UCX 2 got a lot quality and connectivity but im worried about its getting rather hot though it got cooling vents. Ive had two interfaces ( TC IMPACT TWIN AND AUDIENT ID 22) where the heat inside the cabinet made some of the capacitors dry out or otherwise stop working... I know this is RME. And thats why I bought it, im tiered of buying new interfaces. Will other users of UCX 2 please tell about their experience with heat from this unit?
I am no longer concerned wit the heath generated from UCX2. I just placed it on two pieces of wood which lifted the unit a couple of inches from the surface. Air flows more freely now and its cooling the UCX2. Ive got feedback From other UCX2 users elsewhere, and they all stated, they had no issues with the unit and worries about UCX2 getting warm. I m new to RMEs products. I am glad to know that the earlier UCX also got warm with no issues.
@@pml394 I think it's a common "problem" not only with RME interfaces, but also with other interfaces that have built-in DSP such as Universal Audio ones (if you google it, you'll see similar complaints). That said, the RME BabyFace Pro runs pretty cool. My Fireface 400 got hot enough to fry eggs. The UFX gets warm but maybe not as hot as the UCX due to the bigger size which leaves more room inside the unit for air to flow around. That said, the metal chassis is probably acting as a heatsink, so it's not a bad thing that the heat is finding its way out rather than staying within the device.

I have a question that I can’t get an answer to? Please. Does this sound as good as the ufx +? Are the converters the same? Or better in the ufx+. Or is the ufx along the lines of the ADI-2 pro ? Thank you for your help.
Hi, all of RME's interfaces are designed to be sonically transparent, and as such there shouldn't be much in the way of real world differences. This is certainly the case with the latest generation of interfaces (Babyface Pro FS, UCX II, UFX+ etc), which all sound excellent. We therefore always recommend basing purchasing decisions on what I/O and features you need, i.e. the number of channels you need for inputs and outputs. The ADI-2 Series is slightly different as they're dedicated 2-channel converters, and offer the best AD/DA conversion currently available from RME. They are therefore a slight step-up again from any of the interfaces, although this is reflected in the price you're paying for only 2 channels (and no TotalMix FX software).
Hi, just to clarify there is only 1 x ADAT I/O on the UCX II (along with AES & SPDIF). For 2 x ADAT you'll need to look at the Fireface 802, UFX II or UFX+.
@@martotarto9581 Hi, yes you can run up to 3 RME interfaces on one computer, as long as they use the same driver (so a UCX and UCX II will be fine). You will also need to clock the two devices together, which you can do via SPDIF (to keep the ADAT free). Note you will also have two TotalMix windows.
Could I connect this to a 5.1 setup using AES. I have not used AES before but in general I like the idea of using digital signals instead of analog. I plan on connecting it to 5 Genelec 8331A and a subwoofer, I will possibly add more speakers further down the line as well.
Thanks for the comment! We do hear a lot of calls for RME to release black fronted interfaces, and with RME it's certainly something I don't think they'd rule out (just look at the change from the original ADI-2 Pro to the Pro FS R) - I'll be sure to pass your comments on!

Is there a longer digital breakout cable available for the unit? The 20cm cable is borderline useless if you'd like to connect digital speakers without buying something like an RME DTOX unit for another couple of hundred eur/gbp/usd.
Hi, the breakout cable is really just intended to provide the additional I/O that couldn't be fit into the main body of the UCX II. It's still recommended to use cables (digital RCA cables for the SPDIF, or digital XLR cables for the AES connection).
Hi there! This depends entirely on your own use case, as there’s a wide range of differences between the two and both are fantastic interfaces. There’s more I/O available on the UCX II, as well as the added benefit of Direct USB Recording and some other features that make it a great option for using boht in the studio and outside of it. You may not need all 40 channels available on the UCX II though, so if you only need a couple of microphones or instrument channels, the Babyface Pro FS is a great option.
