    This is a very practical video - it's excellent ! This is *real* car information. Yes, we all like watching car review channels, or car repairs. But this is very real world. ULEZ will come to us all, whether in Britain or here on the continent. This channel should have 10 times the number of subscribers !

    u are a truly organic brilliant example of a british down to earth person ... delighte3d to have found u ... i did change my 2005 diesel golf to get a petrol audi 2016 , as a life long londoner i didnt want to not be able to drive in the first ulez ... and as i am sole carer for both my eardlery parents and need to do all the hospital visits ... i was lucky i was able to afford this ... i will never ever buy an electric car as i do not want to add these extra charging times to my already long journeys

    Once the numbers of older cars diminish, and people use alternative means
    Then the goalposts will be moved, because there is no way with all
    The infrastructure costs that are going to incur, tfl will run at a loss
    They will just change from euro 4/6 to whatever they feel like
    So all those people who think that it won’t affect them, because their car passes
    It won’t take long before all that changes, as you all know all along it’s about generating
    Money

    I run a CLK 320 (w209) which is compliant and makes a nice daily apart from the MPG. Pillarless windows are cool in the summer. Engine & gearbox are very tough but it hits you with niggles that will cost £££ if you can’t DIY.
    As everyone else is saying, it’s surely next on the hit list with goalpost moving or road charging though

    Although it weren’t featured, I’m Tempted to grab a mk1 Twingo when I go over to the continent soon. Definitely stands out from the crowd, nippy, good on fuel, cheap as chips to buy and maintain (as long as I avoid ones from France, they don’t take care of them) plus it shares the exact same engine as the mk2 clio, so should be ULEZ compliant as long as it’s newer than 2001.

    I've just dragged out my first ever car 1960's mini & have stripped it down ready to start the rebuild. It's been in storage for last say 20/25 years & needs abit of work so I'm going to start from the ground upwards. Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations on who's a reliable garage to carry out this kinda work?

  • @GTMarmot
    @GTMarmot Рік тому +3

    I think you understate the problems with 40+ year old cars. They are not suitable as drop-in ULEZ-compliant replacements for modern vehicles. I may make a video about it, because people who are into classic cars and projects make it look easy when it's not. A lot of work goes into them, and they will not run forever. London traffic is slow, with a lot of stop-and-start and waiting in traffic. This is an engine killer for aircooled engines, which need a constant flow of air over them. Also, they're getting worn out every time you use them. Parts are getting difficult to find. When the engine cases, shell bearings, etc. wear out they will need major, very expensive, work.

    • @BrownCarGuy
      @BrownCarGuy  Рік тому +1

      Fair points.

    • @nigel.w
      @nigel.w Рік тому +1

      I agree. And more than anywhere else in the country, most London-based cars live outside on the street. Also, generally speaking, the difference between 10 and 20yo cars is considerable, between 20 and 30yo cars is even greater, and by the time a car is 40 years old, the chances that it doesn't need a full restoration, if not restored already, is very slim indeed. And you're not going to get a fully restored anything for 5K. For this budget, I'd stick to the Euro 4 cars, rather than thinking of the 40+yo cars. If, however, you do decide to look into the 40+yo cars, remember that they don't legally require an MOT, so you need to seriously consider how safe they are as well.

      @nigel.w Рік тому

      @@BrownCarGuy Okay, that's interesting. I still think you'd have to be very lucky to find anything tidy for much less than 10K. Good ones typically go for 15-25K. I'd expect a 5K example to be in immediate need of a full restoration, but maybe you can get very lucky.

  • @Ra-zor
    @Ra-zor Рік тому

    Lol, and when you buy a car that's "low emissions compatible" now they change the goalpost, just like they did in Bristol. Low emission zones are a con, you can not trust which cars are allowed and not from one week to the next. Be prepared to be told soon that your existing compliant vehicle will no longer meet requirements when they change everything again soon. Then wait for the planned ban on all diesel vehicles after that, and finally a ban on all petrol vehicles, as that is what this is really all about - ev only city zones...
