Seeing these four lads from Northern Mali in Seattle in 2015 would have been something like seeing that quartet from Liverpool in that basement club in Germany in the early 60s. Rock and Roll meets the Desert Blues where it was born.
They are actually the Malian musician, Ali Farka's musician heirs. Very nice songs. No matter where I may be, I like my country from the North to the South; as well as from the East to the West. God Save Mali United.
Songhoy Blues live from an Indian restaurant :) Joking aside, just watched them on TV at Glasto & they're awesome! Proper band proper musicians - sure there's a bit of a Santana vibe hidden in there somewhere
We recorded lots of Polish bands too -- Sutari, Lautari, The Stubs, Coals, Ukryte Zalety Systemu, Kristen, Małe Miasta, Olo Walicki Kaszebe II, Hańba! and more!
I really like this band. There's some real talent here. The lead singer is an obviously gifted frontman, but that lead guitarist could be a world class talent one day.
Was really looking forward to seeing them in concert tonight at the Blues sur Seine festival. But because of the attacks last night in Paris, the concert has been cancelled.
If you enjoyed this you will enjoy the 'Maison des Jeunes' album, on which this band features. Produced by Django Django's producer I believe, really worth checking out. (It's an interesting introduction to contemporary Mali blues music with a highlife vibe).
He looks more like David Allen Grier to me. vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/disney/images/9/99/David-alan-grier-picture.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120805035414

KEXP, give this engineer raise.
Never heard of these guys before, but this is awesome!
+Michiel Prak I read about them in MOJO or Rolling Stone, so it seems they're getting famous outside Africa now.

Really good musicians. Does anyone know if some of the record proceeds go to fighting Sharia law in Mali?
Barbara Keats whos putting that law in effect?
Hey Barbara these guys are in exile. Let them be.
Ian Steele?
Vive le Grand Mali
Does anyone else think that the bassist looks like carlton from the fresh prince of bel air?
He looks more like David Allen Grier to me.
