Gave these a trial run yesterday at the end of a legs session and 5 hours later i thought why are my traps and upper back so sore and then i remembered i did rack pulls... can already tell these are gonna be a good addition to the routine.
Deadlifts suck. The only thing they ever did for me was absolutely kill my lower back. I stopped doing them well over a year ago. Now I use Mikes techniques for back and nothing hurts anymore.
In prison I used these to grow my traps, I w as holding 500lbs for 20-30 seconds and then goin straight to 60lb db farmers walks, 30 mins of this is just insane Of course I warmed up and worked up
I noticed great results in my upper back from doing these vs regular deads. I also do these without resting the weight at the bottom to keep constant tension.
Glad I watched this. I would go heavy on rackpulls thinking it was going to help develop mass for my entire back. I still think it is a great workout, but not as efficient compared to other workouts.
Thanks Mike! I switched to seated deadlifts last year. At 45 the compression on my spine was a bit much. Seated deads takes the legs out of the movement and I get crazy stimulation to my entire back. Got the move from Charles Glass when looking for alternatives. Much safer for this old guy 😂
In your opinion woukd you say rack pulls are better then sumo deads? . I love deadlifting but unfortunately I herniated my disc in my lower back a few years ago and it’s affected my deadlift and my strength. I’ve got friends that would tell me to try and do sumo deads instead and honestly it’s just not for me lol. However I started doing rack pulls recently and although I may not get the same strength gain as I would with conventional deads, I’m def noticing my upper back and traps getting way more fuller and making overall muscle gains once I incorporated rack pulls in my routine but I still get told that I should do sumo to get more gains. Any advice would help.
Biggest guy in thr gym I go to is massive to say the least but he does cable rows standing and all I know is he can do more weight but rhe intense pain you see from his face says it all. I remember watching him get down on one knee after it was done.
You know Mike is a genius last 20 seconds of video is exactly what happened today at gym. I stop barbell rows for about 2 months and stuck with Mike’s teachings and today I tried a barbell row and killed it I was like what the fk I just rowed 185 and looked smooth 🎉
Rack pulls are what powerlifters use to help with lockout. Just like pulling off of a plate creating a deficit to help with getting the bar off the floor. Rack pulls IMO have no real application in Bodybuilding.
@@LiberatedMind1 they are silly for bodybuilders to do is my point. It was intended for powerlifters as I said. If you wanted to target those muscle groups in a bodybuilding sense there are better options. Let me know if you need some advice.
@@joejoenata Yeah and I refuted your point as they target those muscles very well. I don't do them personally, I prefer RDLs and SDls, but these are very similar.
@@LiberatedMind1 similar how ? Your training full range of motion with RDLs opposed to half of the movement with rack pulls. Just say you like picking up a heavy bar to look cool while only doing half of a deadlift. There's no way big mike has his athletes doing rack pulls for shits and giggles.
Mike do you listen to prartynextdoor? Also I’ve been training with this style of tech versus the old school style and I feel like I already look different.
4:34 The other day, I saw the gym trainer show a newb with a very crooked back, inward rolled shoulders and all to how to narrow grip seated cable row, the poor kid did the row but his back just kept the bad posture. And I thought if he continues on doing such exercises, the newly experienced resistance will merely cement his current bad posture, bolstering it even more. Where as he first needs posture correction, prone thumbs down dumbell Y raises, supermans, cat camels etc before any weight lifting. Commercial gyms are commercially minded, nearly always.

Conventional ones suck. Stiff leg and Romanian variants are godly.

Guys mostly do this for upper back, traps. I find a moderately heavy trap bar shrug puts you in great position and keeps you honest.
That’s a great exercise you rarely see. Good shit. Feel those the best out of any shrug
For some reason I don’t feel trap bar shrugs good in my traps at all, I’ve tried heavy weight and light weight and they just feel like sh*t
@@brennon9755 I've found shorter arm lengths give better tension than longer arm lengths.
You also suck cack

Branden Ray’s version of rack pull is the way I’ve found best works my upper back

Except they build your hams, glutes, and lower back. And if you follow the advice here upper / middle back too.
