@@KoraggRules someone was over by $1? That’s a painful overbid! I remember someone who bid 12,000 and it was $11,999 when Bob barker was still the host.
great show and awesome win for Deborah and Andrea on that sweet ChevyCamaro!! also I loved how Drew said good morning to Rich!!) "Hello Rich Fields... our Good Looking Announcer" :)
Five turns is the max in Cover Up and the least amount of numbers that can remain on the board is five. However, one playing (on 4/25/97) showed such a great strategy that the contestant go the last two numbers or the last number by default.
Textbook way to progress in cover up. Increment your guesses so you always get one correct number, giving you as many shots as possible at the last one.
I remember a "Cover Up" where the woman kept getting all numbers right and on the next to the last chance, she had the fifth number right and the fourth number wrong. Since she had at least one right (the fifth number), she kept on playing. There was only one number left (the fourth number). Drew told her to insert the card down in the playing field and that she had won a car. Now that was the BEST Cover Up ever!
Gotta say, I wouldn't have been close on that Mazda Miata. I would have maybe guessed 25k. and I'm not that bad with guessing prices of vehicles but no Mazda is worth nearly 40k.
I had to listen about a hundred times and it sounds like $49K most of the time. I guess it's like that Green / Gold dress. If you listen carefully, she says 39 but sounds like 49 to me!
Yeah, those close overbids are frustrating. I think they always have the rule that you have to get the price "without going over" in the one-bid round to eliminate the possibility of a tie, but I don't see why they have that rule in the Showcases, as they are each bidding on a separate set of prizes. If there is a tie, as Bob Barker pointed out once that I can remember, both players will win their own Showcase.
It definitely sounds like she said $49 thousand, but now that I look at her lips, it looks like she's saying 'th'. So I guess it's $39 thousand, but yeah, it definitely sounded weird.
The sensible way to play cover up is to use repeated numbers over and over, which I never see anyone do. Since only one is likely to be right, The player will keep getting extra chances.
A contestant once got the third and fourth numbers right by default, which would imply that that contestant got five chances(five choices for the fourth number)
@mateo096: Would the two Tauruses have been won if I didn't tell Kathy their plugs were wrong? No. Would Cover Up have been won if Drew had not informed the contestants they had extra chances before committing to the first choice? Not likely, since they used all five chances. Would A&D have won $1,000 on the Wheel if they had lost Cover Up? Also not likely, since they would have spun from 95 and scored 90 + 20 at the same strength. They wouldn't even have gone to the Showcase...
@mateo096: I pointed out an error in the descriptions of two Ford Tauruses that caused technical wins (the 3/10 and 4/15 episodes), and encouraged Kathy to move the full rules description to before the game because S&P could be called otherwise...thus, A&D won this car and were in the right position to win $1,000 on the Wheel.
Surprisingly, I can claim personal responsibility for this win and this amazing playing (it was won left to right!) I was the one who made sure Drew explained the extra chances before the contestant commits to making their first choice. I've never been to a taping, but I'm now responsible for $77,994 worth of winnings (this and their $1K on the Wheel, plus both Taurus) and the greatest Cover Up playing ever. I think this proves the fans DO make a difference...
@quadrupleplay Get over your big head! YOU are not responsible for someone cleaning house on The Price is Right if you've NEVER been at a taping! Okay? :)
That was a GREAT progression of reveal for Cover Up!!
Where did she get 882 from??? Seems it would have been easier just to stop at 39k.
OUCH!
What a painful Overbid!
I remember when I was at my job. A nun told me that someone was over by $1.00. That's a killer right there
@@KoraggRules someone was over by $1? That’s a painful overbid! I remember someone who bid 12,000 and it was $11,999 when Bob barker was still the host.
She's going to regret that 882. How many times have contestants been burned by random change added to the end of their bids? Ouch.
That the heartbreak Showcase. Without adding 882, they should got it.

If Deborah and Andrea had done $39,500 for their showcase bid, they would have won both showcases.
I guess that's what happens when you try to be fancy with your bids lol
david
I thought the same thing. If only they bid 39,500 instead they probably would have won over 80,000.
@@fable9159 Actually it's *$92,782.*
With a difference of $224.
That showcase was an interesting one. Drew Carey's pre reactions. Crowd's reactions and the pair's reactions.
When you think about it... they played Cover Up the way it should be played. You shouldn't be trying to get all the numbers in one go.
Exactly! They played it out to the maximum possible 5 turns, evidenced by the super-clean board at the end.

+Kevin Daugherty Jr. Maybe the Mazda is worth only 25K, but the spa is the most expensive spa in the world.
Remember you're bidding on the ENTIRE showcase, not just the main highlight prizes.
Deborah and Andrew's bid was actually $49882 not $39882 .......somehow that was missed
I had to listen about a hundred times and it sounds like $49K most of the time. I guess it's like that Green / Gold dress. If you listen carefully, she says 39 but sounds like 49 to me!
I've actually see cove up played this way.
If you can manage to only get 1 number right and lose the rest its a bit easier to play
This reminds me how much I miss Johnny Olson.
Deborah and Andrea had a terrible day on the bouns wheel and the showcase result
The trick to beat Cover Up is always to have one number right. As long you got one number right, the chance to win the game will be very great.
Well, DUH!!!
Mom will take the car, the daughter won't get to touch it
Had it been $306 the other way, they would have won BOTH showcases. Damn.

Im pretty sure I hear the lady- or it sounds like to me that she said $49,882 not 39... but I could have heard it wrong.

Putting this video up I thought they would win a showcase at the end! Nice double fake out!
I would have thought after 9 years on UA-cam it would have more then 131k views 🤨 triple fake out 🤣🤯

Lol. He calls them “Lauren & Valerie.”
It's too quiet.

Only 27000 for a Camaro? That seems weird
@quadrupleplay Did you play the game? No? Exactly.
7:59 She grabs the microphone from Drew? Learn some manners and professionalism!
Your right, seems to be much disrespect these days.
I absolutely love manuela how guergous is she man
Once he said 39 thousand, the audience knew it wasn't gonna end well.
So who gets the car?
That happened already in "Cover-Up" once in Bob's era.
Do you have a clip of that time?
9:17 she clearly bids 49,882 and they give her 39,882
hey.....this was fun!
🤣🤣
PAINFUL WSD BY $158...
38th Season of TPIR was WORSE! Except 3 DSW's
@quadrupleplay Really? You've never been to a taping but you won it for the contestants? Okay then...
@WayoshiM: Who else would they have reacted to? I was the only one bringing up such issues connected to S&P...
If they hadn't put that junk(882) on the end of their bid they would've won!! Lesson learned!
Ok, I thought by the title there was some scam and a "cover up". I was waiting to see how they were cheating.
Both teams did win their cars, however.
If there is two people how do you decide who gets the car
The mom gets the car until the daughter turns 18.
At least they won a car earlier...
when she turns 18. the car will be worth 5k
Or they can offer 2 cars like they have before so they can both get cars.
