  • Comparing my new knife to my current one. Joker brand, model name “Campero” vs. my Morakniv brand model name “Bushcraft”. A more fair comparison by price point would be the Morakniv “Garberg” which I do not own to review. This is my first video before I decided to make a channel. Thanks for the support.

    Olive wood handle, very resistant, beautiful and soft to the touch. Artisan leather sheath.
    In Spain there are cities with a tradition of making knives, pocket knives or swords for many centuries. Lots of quality and craftsmanship at unbeatable prices.

    Turn your ferro rod over. Insert it from the bottom. The shock cord loop will keep it from falling out. With the ferro rod handle out of the way, the knife will be easier to draw.

      From the feedback I’m getting, it seems like a mixed bag. Some people’s came sharp, others came dull. I wonder if it’s specific to the Bushcraft black. I’m eventually going to get a Garberg so it’ll be interesting to see how it arrives!

    If you write to Mora online they will possibly send you a new knife as all of them are usually razor sharp. Or maybe that paper was very thin.
    The Mora sheaths can be heated and remolded simply to fit better if coming loose. Hot water or hairdryer.

      This is what you need to do, but oil the blade and wrap securely in cling film to stop it rusting. Really soak the sheath, mould it with your fingertips. Watch your nails or you’ll mark it and leave it to dry without the knife in it.

    I wud just send the mora back. It shud be razor sharp and sharpen beautifully. I own two joker. The nomad and the bushcrafter. Best knives I've ever used compared to 300 to 400$ knives. The nomad with razor edged convex grind is unreal. Check out these two jokers. Nomad, bushcrafter. Always pick micarta for the joker scale selection.

    That Bushcraft Black, lke most knives but especially that knife, really needs a reprofiling and at least 2-3 full sharpening sessions, to become from "very poor performer" to some of the best bushcraft knives performers out there! A polished slightly convexed bevel on the Bushcraft Black, will triple both edge retention and edge stability which on a scandi edge is a must.

    It could be a fair comparison even though there's a difference in price. Sometimes a company that's not well known will give you more for your money to entice you over to their side. I bought a number of Lionsteel knives because you get a lot of quality for the buck. It's probably bc they are not as well known eventhough their knives are outstanding.

    You probably got a lemon with the Mora. I've owned lots and still own a couple. It almost never happens, but, I got one a few years ago. Normally they sharpen up great. This one I just couldn't get to that razor edge. And I've been sharpening on stones all my life. Probably overheated the edge with the machine sharpening at the factory and screwed up the heat treat. Get a few millimeters of the edge and it will be fine. They are fantastic knives and normally not hit or miss

    It's all about availability and pricing in your region of course. But I got the Joker at a really good price. Where I think the Mora is overpriced the Joker was underpriced. Not any more I guess. But if you can find them at a good price Joker is the way to go. I understand you wanting to buy American being an American. But when you look at quality and price there's no Dave Canterbury knife that can match it. The Joker is stainless steel. You don't have to babysit the knife.

    I'm not sure but I think for "that kind of woodcarving", a convex (rather rare, such as on the Joker Nomad) would do much easier then this flat grind (excellent slicer for "kitchen" and other "cuttings". ?
    "But" the foldable Bush Ranger (bush...) by Cold Steel though also has flat grind.

    99.999999% of all Mora reviews have them coming out of the package sharp as the devil. In fact, yours is the only review I've ever seen that claimed otherwise. But, looking at your display of carving, it looks like even your Joker is kinda dull. Something wrong with this picture. Plus, the Mora Bushcraft has a version (about $10-more) that has the ferro-rod, and a diamond sharpener mounted on the sheath. Otherwise, the Joker does appear a fine knife though.

      Absolutely! I’m thinking of making a part 2 of this now that I have used them in the field a lot more. The joker STILL does not need a sharpening. (Just been honing it) it’s throws way more sparks from the ferro (might be the Bohler K720 steel) and the sheets fits perfectly now. Mora is definitely the #1 choice for me to recommend to anyone spending under 50 bucks. I just got a companion for my girlfriend.

    • @AdamProut
      @AdamProut Рік тому +1

      That is a great question. Very wise person. I do find myself using the mora a lot more than the joker because the scandi grind is far easier for me to sharpen than the convex grind which I’ve managed to make dull. My favorite knife to use now that I’m more versed in using various kinds out in the field is the Matt Graham knife by Condor called primitive bush mondo. It combines my need from a knife, hatchet, and machete all into one knife. It’s an excellent fire starter, chopper, game processor, and carver. It also has a strange grind though so I try to hone it after every use to avoid having to sharpen it and risk dulling it.

      @@AdamProut thanks I always like to hear how people progress. Things we think are important actually change when we are outdoors doing stuff. It's usually different then what you first thought. At least thats been what it's like for me. I have a mora Garberg and a 13 coldsteel tanto machete.
      As far as sharpening I use a harbor freight 1x30 belt grinder. It's like $50 then Amazon has belts for $20 you can even get a leather belt. It was my best investment. Just start on junk knifes. For outdoors Sharpal it's amazing I believe it's $29 right now. At least thats what Amazon just said.
      This is a sharpener for people just getting started. I think that will help you get to the next level.
      Have a good one thanks for the reply.

    That strip of leather is a DANGLER STRAP, allows the knife to dangle free lower than the belt some like it some don't. The easiest grind of knife to Sharpen IS the scandi grind. Don't buy your stones at wal part get Good ones DMT Atoma Waterstones from 250 grit to 4000 Lay the Scandi flat on the stone You know the bevel work awhile flip over repeat go from coarse to finer grits use a strop or a ceramic rod or stone to finnish the burr Oh yeah NO Burr NO sharp then your mora should be like a razor I know some will screw it up to say I have no idea what I am talking about...yeah uh hu right H. Ray Sharpening have loved ALL my mora s and other knives

    • @EverydayDudeSurvival
      @EverydayDudeSurvival  2 роки тому

      I sharpened both today and scandi is WAY easier than convex. Probably shoulda stropped the joker only. Think I made it duller. After using both in the field a lot since making this video, it seems mora is better for finer carving uses and the joker better for heavy duty woodwork and throwing sparks but I also think I got a lemon mora and am thinking of getting a garberg soon

    • @pennsyltuckyreb9800
      @pennsyltuckyreb9800 2 роки тому +1

      I disagree. I have and sharpen both. To me, convex is much easier to sharpen and maintain out in the field. It's a more natural motion in the human hand. Most folks end up making their scandis (if doing by hand and not some sort of assisted angle keeper tool) a "scandi-vex" anyway (even if just by the very slightest degree) which is what you want because it helps strengthen the fine scandi edge that'll chip out a lot if you don't.
      Wear a good leather belt and add some stropping compound to the inside and most sharpening you'll ever need on a convex can be done with your belt....unless you manage to really mess up your edge.
      I've learned to easily sharpen my convexes on flat water stones as well but over time, you'll really curve the surface of the stones and need to flatten them back out.
      While we have our fair share of pines in my location, we have mostly tons of hardwoods and true, Zero grind scandis don't do well at all with hardwoods. Especially dead hardwoods. I prefer a good flat grind or a thinned out convex which adds much more strength and durability to the edge.
      The "Bushcraft community" has really made the scandi edge the "standard" but I've come to really loathe scandi edges over the years. Not as versatile as a flat or convex edge. I'm also a hunter and fisher so I need my knives to also handle animal processing at the same time which scandi edges do terribly. Also not fun when cutting up and preparing food.
      I do like my beater Condor Bushlore which actually cuts really well but even that doesn't come as a true scandi from the factory. It's a "scandi-vex" which I maintain as such.
      I really want one of these Joker knives just with a model not a scandi.
