I liked David towards the end of season 1, because he saved Max from Jefferson & was genuinely upset when Chloe was dead. But THIS David, THIS DAVID, I cant stand him.

There's a ton of literary references in game. Especially the original. Caulfield is Catcher in the Rye's main character and Max's dorm has the poster of the book's cover albeit with a different title. The photographers in San Francisco are named after authors like Vonnegut and Atwood. There's a company named for Howard Roark of Fountainhead fame. For a game with terrible dialogue they have their literature on point.

To people saying how awkward and cringy the play-scene is, it just makes sense with Chloe as character! Not only that she's not an actress, she's just thrown onto stage, with just a moment to learn her lines. Also, to me, she appears as pretty insecure, so no wonder she's not quite in her element on that stage. The awkwardness makes her look like fish out of water... which she is.

The way Frank crossed off Chloe’s name even after she didn’t complete the mission shows how much he really cares about her
Im starting to think, that Rachel is Pyrokinetic. Sure she started the fire by burning the picture, but the moment she screamed at that tree, the fire spread like crazy. Not to mention, that every time Rachel gets emotional (bad emotions mostly) the fire in generel spreads faster and further including the candless on the dinner table! When she was walking in the night lights with Chloe and than they kissed eachother, the ash started to fall down from the sky and the fire in the back was slowly extinguishing itself (or atleast wasnt being as agresive as before) because Rachel was calm and happy. Her power (if she has one) is connected to her emotions. And even thou unknowingly its turning into a defense mechanism, as the fire takes away Rachels dads (and pretty much every1s) focus of of her (might be a stretch but thats what I belive in). Also I have a slight suspicion that Rachels biological mom is also a mother of Sean and Daniel from Captain Spirit, seeing as Daniels power is very similar to Rachels. Both powers are connected to the users emotions. The emotional they get, the stronger they become. Same mother different fathers. One child is Pyrokinetic (Rachel), other is powerless (Sean) and the youngest is Telekinetic (Daniel). Also Sean and Daniels grand parents were talking about theire mom as if she did something horrible that made them cut of all ties and Rachels mom looked like she just came out of jail. So it might be a possible tie between these two stories. Its also interesting that every single power including Max's from the original game, manifested after witnessing something emotionaly traumatizing -> Chloe getting killed, Papa Diaz being shot, thinking dad cheats on your mother and destroys your point of view on life. Whats also interesting that each of these 3 got the powers they needed in that specific time of distress. Max wanted another chance to fix things and save Chloe -> (gets time travel powers), Rachel burning with anger and hate -> (gets Pyrokinetic powers), Daniel being affraid and powerless literally explodes with power -> (gets Telekinetic powers).

Jesus Christ have I got all the feels, watching this. I feel bad for Chloe because I remember what teenhood was like, especially potentially in love. I feel bad for her mom, 'cause I adore my mom, but for the longest time I didn't appreciate her at all. I don't feel particularly bad for the mom's boyfriend, but I understand he's just trying to help Chloe's mom out, even if he's being heavy-handed and ineloquent about it. Chloe's just the typical teen, but typical teens don't realize how much of an arrogant, annoying, raging pain in the ass they are until they hit their 20's/30's.
(And both Chloe and Rachel are seriously lacking in foresight! But hey, again, typical teens. The good news is--and I know it from experience--that it's never too late to make something of yourself, and there's always a place in life for you to occupy.)

i am in my teenhood, and i kinda following the same path as Chloe.
I adore my mom to but she is always on my neck for not doing shit at school, i always looked at people that had "better parents", and though: they have a good life. But after seeng and reading your comments, i started to realise that my mom has more problems with me that i have with school/her. And i feel bad for her, since she is really trying to help me, but i am there just doing nothing.
Like you said, "typical teens dont realize how much of an asshole they are". which is true (for me) But me being me, i see that my mom hates my behaviour/ lack of giving a damn. Fun fact: Chloe getting expelled in this game is actually either a plot hole or not canon. Why? Because when Max and Chloe break into the Principal’s office and she finds Chloe’s student file, the file says something like “Update: Chloe is no longer a student at Blackwell. See attached police reports”, meaning whatever she got expelled for had also gotten her in trouble with the police, but if she’s expelled in Before the Storm, it has nothing to do with the police, she just leaves school grounds without permission and gets into a fight with the Principal. So canonically, Chloe lets Rachel save her from expulsion and then at some point soon after Before the Storm, Chloe gets expelled for something illegal.

Two things that bothered me between the interaction with David, Joyce and Chloe. One, shes only 15/16 in this and Joyce expects her to know what she wants out of life? So horrible to make her feel badly for not knowing. And two, Davids comment about "seeing what a stable home can be like" is a huge dig at Chloe's father, maybe not meant to be, but if I were Chloe in that situation I would have said something to that, or if I were the developers I would have made that a decision because that's so not fair to 13 years of her life where things were great until her dad died.
I thought blackwell is a college... Pretty sure shes older than 15/16 but I agree 100% with the second thing. What David said was pretty fucked up.. He should of said along the lines of ''seeing what a stable home can be like AGAIN''
Phantom Link nope, Blackwell is a high school. In the original game max is 18 in her senior year. This takes place 2ish years before max comes back to Arcadia Bay. You can also see this as Drew is accepting and turning down scholarships to colleges in this episode.
I agree with this as well. This scene doesn't really make any sense, especially with the way Joyce behaved. Also, I'm not sure if they covered this, but does David even have any kids? If not, I hardly think he knows what it's like to be a parent or know what a "stable home" looks like.

I'd say that a 16 year old should at least have a little inkling of what they want. Not necessarily what they want to do or want to be, but simply what they desire. Chloe however, is simply fucked in the head. Like Chloe wants her dad back, but the stuff she's doing now would make him turn in his grave. She wants her mom to be happy, but rejects David without giving him a chance. She wants friends, but pushes everyone away.
Chloe s fucked in the head, and needs help. But that help clearly isn't Rachel Amber or even Max, it's way past the point of friends who accept you being able to help. Chloe needs a firmer hand, one the will douse all the flames of emotion in her heart and squash it underfoot. That is what David is trying to teach Joyce, and I think he's right.
theblasblas someone who is messed up from losing a parent especially at that age, the thing they need the least is what David is doing. Joyce definitely needs to be firmer, but coming from someone who she clearly doesn't want in her life, someone pushing too hard to replace her dad, it's only going to make her rebel that much more. And you so need friends by your side throughout it, Max is a better influence obviously than Rachel, but at this point Rachel is all she has. And no, some people even at the end of their life have no idea what they wanted out of life. To expect a child who's still dealing with a huge trauma to figure it all out before getting her mental health fixed is just absurd. Joyce isn't getting that she's just pushing her daughter away more. Chloe is telling her all she needs right now is her mom and her mom ignoring that and is forcing David onto her. Anger over losing someone you love, that hurt you never want to feel again, and it can cause you to push away the people who are closest to you for fear of losing them too and feeling that pain again. You don't mean to, you don't get it in the moment, not when you're lost. And that's what Chloe is, lost.

Everyone complains about the dialogue in this game but to me I think it's quirky on purpose. I don't think it's bad writing, but the writers trying to give characters personality. I find it funny, and sometimes kinda charming. I mean, would you rather have generic boring dialogue?

I personally don't mind the cheesy, quirky bits of dialogue because like you said it does have a charm to it. However, I can see where some people are coming from in that a lot of the vocabulary and phrases that the characters use are either oddly structured or just aren't words people come up with on the fly in real life. It's kind of a love-hate thing for me

Also, I don’t know exactly when you would have had the chance to actually return the money to Frank. That’s probably related to it too, since some options on this episode were not fully available and depended on previous choices.
There was no chance to return the money to Frank. I personally kept it because I wanted to give it to Frank afterwards so that Damon would stop harassing Drew and Mikey, but as I said I never got the chance.

In these choice based games there are choices that are difficult and you have to consider them carefully, but even so you sometimes end up regretting them. There are no wrong or stupid decisions, they just lead to different and sometimes very unpredictable outcomes.
I'm pretty sure the paying Frank back thing relates to Chloe's $175 debt, not the $1000 that Drew had. I think the only reason 2% of people got that is because they stole the money from the guy selling shirts in episode 1, but didn't give Frank the money there, and instead kept it, then maybe an option comes up to pay him back in the RV? I stole the money and paid him back at the concert but at the end of episode 2 it said I hadn't paid my debt, so I think it's slightly bugged.

This is actually true for Norwegian teenagers. Me and other people on my age that have had a rough childhood struggled alot more than others cuz we used alot more time to find ourselves instead of doing homework and plan our future. Now I`m 19 and I still don`t know what to do because of the huge school pressure I got while trying to find myself (find myself mentally, like, finding out who I am as a person). We end school at the age of 16, so the system expects us to be ready at that age
FleetingPrecision It’s not « typically American » to be told to figure your future out at 16, it’s worldwide. And yes there’s mistakes about how it’s done but at least we get the chance to chose a future, some don’t.
