Ye we have to suggest a good video from this channel for moistcritikal on his UA-cam night, he could fall in love with this channel, would blow this channel up.
All three are probably made at the same commercial bakery with similar ingredients and variations to suit the brand's recipes. The 1% extra pork in the Walls is the batch pot scrape down, all the little tasty bits that get stuck to the bottom of the pot. Commercially made sausage rolls are good, but homemade are hard to beat. You can make them as fluffy or dence as you like them. And they can be frozen for later use. Another fine review today Gareth. Cheers 👍🤤😀
@@grahamjohnson4702 I said probably, not for sure. I know one pie and sausage roll manufacturer that make for 8 brands and their labels. I've seen how they're made while doing a Work Safe audit. A makes for B. B distributes bulk ingredient to C and D. And D makes some products and while C makes others.
@@grahamjohnson4702 Sargent's Pies. Sydney Australia. BTW they also make those 'Bake At Home' dinner rolls and other bits n bobs fresh and frozen stuff.
I worked for a Bread factory and did Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrison, m+s and more in the same place in Newcastle. It is true but price adjusted for quality and size
Great video as always Gareth! My favourites are the Sainsburys 6 pack sausage rolls. They work out at 35p per sausage roll (£2.10) total, and they are also 60grams each. They're 27% pork as well 🙂
Heres one for you to just probably pass your thoughts about. Next time you go shopping check out the shelf life of various supermarkets milk . Asda milk has probably a week extra than any other shopping outlet. Looking forward to your findings

Having lived throughout various areas in Germany, ( including Celle near your Home camp ), our family shopping was usually done at Lidl. In Germany Lidl and Aldi are like Waitrose or Sainsbury. It was a very busy store. No frills, no blocking off shelves while workers restocked. They would bring out a pallet and just take the tops off of the boxes. Apart from being a very good store for value, German items are way above the UK when it comes to nutrition and additives. For fresh meat? There aren't that many butchers around. So once a month we would visit the shop that had its own abattoir. Each animal that was put down had a vets certificate explaining why the animal had been put down and that it had been tested for human consumption. This certificate would then be displayed in the shop. We could literally fill our freezer with half a sheep, and half a pig for peanuts. Beef was a little harder to get, as back then most farmers only dealt in dairy herds. So unless an animal needed to be put down for a broken leg or because it failed to produce milk? Then it wasn't a common meat. When we finally moved back to the UK we were pleased to find both an Aldi and a Lidl nearby. However, amongst our family we had someone we nicknamed " the Duchess " because she couldn't understand why we shopped at such stores and not the higher end stores. Eventually we invited her for a dinner of sirloin steak, chips and mushrooms. My wife told her it was all bought at Sainsbury's. She loved it, the only thing was it was all bought in Lidls. Let's face it a cow is just a cow. It eats grass and other stuff and then ends up in a store. All the stuff about " free range " and " 21 day matured " is just a gimmick. OK, you get corn fed chickens, which do taste nice and the corn makes them look nice with their yellow colouring, but does it taste better? I recently bought a cooks syringe. So now when I cook my meat I can inject the flavour I like. Do this before you cook. If you like garlic, lemon/lime, Guinness or other herbs? Just make a sauce from what you like and inject into the meat. Not only will it flavour the meat, but it will keep the meat moist on the plate. I have never had a complaint about any of the meat from Lidl or Aldi. So why would I want to spend £5+ for one sirloin steak from one supermarket when I can get two for under £6 in my German store? I have tried both options and I can honestly say that, taste wise, there isn't much between them, apart from the bigger high end stores inject more food colouring and preservatives to make their product look good on the shelf. Apart from that, as a 70 year old pensioner, it's nice to be able to buy quality meals at a price I can afford.
Thank you very much, can I come round for tea, I love steak lol you're right they do all eat grass. Seen a programme with Rick Stein when he was in France eating steak, was an eye opener. Thank you Gerry, all the best to you 👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy I also love a good steak. Which is why I watched a video on the raising of Kobe beef in Japan. These animals are pampered beyond anything I've ever seen. They are fed top quality goods, some of which have been soaked in the best beers. They have calming classical music played into their stalls 24/7. Highly trained ' beef masseuse ' are employed to give them a daily massage. They even have people reading historic Japanese stories to them in order for them to understand why they are so important to Japanese life. When I look at my life compared to theirs? I did most of my drinking in NAAFI bars. I do like a lot of classical music, but if the wife was at home it was banned. And if I fancied a massage from the Mrs I had to get a few vodkas down her hatch first. No wonder Kobe beef is so expensive. I think I'll stick to my Lidl/Aldi sirloin 🥴🥴
I just popped into Aldi. I'm terrible for remembering prices! I noticed their custard cream biscuits had gone up from 35p to 49p overnight. 40% people will soon be starving and sales will plummet. When will companies realise that profiteering will end badly? For example my local Morrisons is charging £1.75.9 a litre diesel, I visited Liverpool last week and paid £1.59.9. Profiteering is creating inflation. How can Morrisons justify 72p a gallon extra? Love your show.
Happy Hogmanay. I've never tried the Pukka and I don't like the Walls sausage rolls, but I do love the Asda homebrand with a splash of vinegar and some broon sauce or ketchup.
I remember coming home after working on site for 4 weeks, we stopped off at a farm shop. I got a freshly made sausage roll and my god, the flavours were incredible. I love cheap food but im of the opinion we don't know what quality food is anymore.
Sausage rolls are not something we see much in the USA, I can't believe they don't carry them in the canteen machines at work, but they did seem kinda dry compared to most of the foods we get from the machines, most have a lot more grease because of the cheap cheese, or just because of the high fat recipes here. As to the out-of-date food, most of the foods here nowadays have a best-buy date to an expiration date because a lot of people were throwing away good food, baby food/formula, and maybe milk, but even from Aldi, Walmart, or wherever, milk can go bad a week before or after the best by date on the jug, so baby food/formula is the only real one to watch out for, best buy dates mean it just won't be quite as fresh and tasty. I hope someday to visit the UK and have read that Greggs has one of the best and sells millions each year and people seem to like the ones from costa coffee, which I hear is very expensive. I'm glad you kinda went with what the working guy would get, thanks. This has been very informative, like how the US has a million different types of hotdogs at thousands of hot dog shops, great video, gives me something to look forward to when I travel east. Please keep the videos coming.
Gareth, noticed that Pukka's have extended their range in the Shops before Christmas. Have always enjoyed their Pies. Never had a bad one if I remember right. Walls are also a good company, always had their Sausages years ago. Great review, as always .... Thank You 👍😉👏
Wow they all look tasty! Just what you need on a cold day. Ginsters make a sausage roll too, would like to know what you think of that one Gaz if you haven't reviewed it already? Their pasties are delicious!
Personally I would take pairs of the ASDA ones into work, with either brown or red sauce for variety. Plus yes I have a pepper grinder at work that has heavy use. Grinder because keeps peppery longer.
in tesco the scotch eggs in the meal deal fridge are about double the price of the same scotch eggs in the regular fridge that has all the pies in it only difference is that they are sold as a twin pack
Funniest thing you’ve said this year “Try not to eat food which has just gone out of date”…. Says you tucking into your Mum’s 10 year old chrimbo pudding 😅😅😅 tickled me that did… All the best! Have a great new year, love the videos!!
I like the Wall's ones out of that line up but my favourite Sausage Roll by far is the hot one from the BP Petrol station where down here in Essex we've got M&S as the shop! I know proper posh lol. It was £2.00 if memory serves the last time I had one, but they are really good 😇
Love sausage rolls had some over the holidays.........bought a large pack from asda £2 and some from the coop bakery £?......warm with ice cold tomato sauce both very nice
Great comparison Gaz but pukka have palm oil in which is a no no because they chop down trees to make way for palm plants plus you should of saved money on Aldi cheep sausage rolls 10p cheaper than Asda and are the ones I only buy now because you got me going to Aldi and saving about £15 each time I go there which is great they are the place to go for cheep crisps (own brand) 85p every were else £1:19 or more keep up with the great videos 👏👏👍👍
Seeing these sausage rolls has made me hungry and I've got ready made frozen ones in the freezer. I think I'd go with you on this one Gareth and go for the Walls brand. 😋
Happy New Year BFG & Fam’ a sausage roll OOD? With all the phosphates & preservatives in them, theyll be fine for quite a while i reckon. Good review, the cheap as chips ones are quite relevant today, ideal if all our looking for is a snack to tide you over until your meal of the day.
Happy New Year! Great video as usual mate. It's funny how you often comment about pepper. I don't associate pepper with sausage rolls at all, Cornish pasties yes, but not sausage rolls. I did a quick Google on sausage roll recipes and only one out of ten had any ground pepper in it. Seems like it's not a standard ingredient! I know you can get spiced (pepper, peppercorn, paprika etc) sausage rolls which sound like they might be more appealing for you. Might be a subject for another video!
Thanks for the great comparison. I like the fact that they lack pepper as that would be a no thanks for me personally. I've noticed Tesco seem to like putting a lot of pepper in their products, I'm assuming it is to try and disguise the fact they are trying to reduce the salt but I don't think it works as well, pepper has to much it's own flavour rather than being flavour enhancing. 🙄
Calamity! My usual McDonald's was CLOSED! The entrance blocked off with traffic cones. I parked in a different car park nearby and walked to the restaurant just to see whether it was only the drive-thru that was affected, but a member of staff came out and explained that the whole restaurant had a power outage since 5:30 a.m. and none of the IT was working yet. Bummer. I've had the Walls sausage roll before, but not seen the Pukka one. I wouldn't get the really cheap ones, because I tried the Eastmans from Tesco a few months ago and they were rank. However, what I did see in Morrisons was a new pie from Pukka. Meat and potato. Well, I say "new" because I've not seen it before. All the Pukka pies were on offer at £1.50. For sausage rolls I've gone back to the Greggs at Iceland, 4 for £3.
Yes not everyone can afford brand names we can but we are like everyone else want to save money and the more people that start getting budget buys the less people will feel uncomfortable, I’ve even recommended cheaper brands when I pick them up to whoever is beside me, your channel is great for highlighting the taste and the price those budget ones with some beans one or two chips would be a half decent meal especially if three or four in a family
I think that’s why I prefer a Ginsters Cornish pasty , lots of cracked pepper inside . Days are gone though when you could nab one for £1 in supermarkets though ..
I''ve been putting a pack of 8 Tesco sausage rolls in the fridge for weeks. A tip is to wrap each in a small freezer PET bag when you open the box, they stay fresher that way. I have them with HP fruity sauce as Tesco don't have Branston sauce, and normal HP does not do it for me. Asda is too far away, and the car park is always packed, so we don't go there often.
Pukka and walls both good brands and food, so a bit odd that there's a 25p price difference but maybe it comes down to overheads and costs. Back in the day it was walls everywhere for ice cream and it's still as good today. With today's cost of living, the cheapest brands will survive.
When I had my shop walls used to deliver to us once a week with pork pies cooked meats and sausages they have been producing pork products for years so you would expect them to come up with a decent product
I don't usually eat sausage rolls but I enjoy the comparison video's. I know you like your curry so why don't you do a curry sauce video? Maysan, Mayflower, Maykway. Keep up the good work mate.
It's only recent I've found your channel. I've noticed how neat you are when you eat your food. Your mum "dragged you up well!" Great comparison. I've got some sausagemeat in freezer. Going to add onion, Worcester sauce and black pepper and some puff pastry. Be interesting to see how much these work out. They have frozen Pukka sausage rolls but they are 2,49€. Can't be bothered doing the mat, but all imported English food to Spain really expensive, so I have to adjust and overcome (or whatever army saying you use!).
@BaldFoodieGuy Thanks, Gareth. Playing catch-up I've only recently find these. Whilst I love living here in Spain, your channel is a daily dose from home and your dialect is soothing (if you know what I mean!)
I've not tried any of those, I normally to go Morrisons and buy their store brand. One sausage roll I don't like is Ginsters. For the price 12p per sausage roll is a great deal, maybe not the best but when you're watching the pennies supermarket brands are a good option.
Coming from Huddersfield , we always bought our Pies and Pasties from proper Butchers and just assumed everyone elses were as good ! , however from starting to work away in Towns and Cities down south they had bugger all as nice , then we obs ended up by buying these prepacked bags of sh............ You have to hunt now for decent pies etc even in Yorkshire .
Asda did pig in blanket sausage rolls over Christmas that were really nice. From the chicken counter. The cheap Asda ones are just for families as a snack. Or to dish out at work. They fill a hole, it all goes to make a turd 🤣. If I'm out and about I'll always try to get to Greggs for a sausage roll if I can.
The supermarkets are getting greedy putting their prices up way beyond inflation. .I like buying the 1kg slab of cheese .it was £3.99 a month ago then they raised it to £4.09 then 2 weeks later its £4.29 that's 2 price rises within a month
To be honest, 2 of the little ones are the same weight as the other two, so it's still 24p for likely the same amount. I think that's a fair comparison
@@SuperLittleTyke and that's why it's a fair comparison. Still less than 48p for the same amount of pork. But I don't think anyone is eating sausage rolls for the pork content really, just the calories. Either way you look at it though, still cheaper with the crap ones :)
Hummm Pukka 27% pork and has more protein per 100gr than the Walls with 28% pork. Maybe the Pukka has more jelly or something. The Asda Essential ones also have more protein although they only had 17% pork. Maybe the flour is of a higher quality with more gluten etc. I would go for the Asda Essentials. Although all of them looked good just a shame about the palm oil, I would use lard without a doubt. A good review.👌👍 You could always make some good old potato pastry, it is wonderful for homemade pies and sausage rolls.
Was looking at getting some sausage rolls so checked your play list, we normally get the asda just essentials sausage rolls but just fancied something different. Looking at the asda website the regular ASDA 6 Pork Sausage Rolls 360g £1.95 or 54.2p/100g so same size as the essentials but these have 28% pork similar to the walls and pukka. The interesting thing is the walls sausage roll now has 25% pork compared to last year 28%, still £1.05 [currently on offer from asda at 85p or 65.4p/100g ] While the pukka is still 27% and £1.30 or £1.00/100g. I'll throw in Ginsters Sausage Roll 130g, 27% pork normally £1.50 currently on offer at asda for £1. So the only changes are that walls has 3% less pork than last year and just essential is 3p cheaper. I'll order the the regular ASDA 6 Pork Sausage Rolls 360g @ £1.95 and give em a whirl. You are right about the lack of pepper, but i would also say that most food lacks salt and pepper now, salt because the thought police say it is bad and the pepper i would have thought it is cost a year ago hundredweight was $730, but todays spot price is $603. Thanks for the video, take care, God bless one and all.
Good review, I know you've done steak pies but you like pepper, morrisons do an Aberdeen Angus streak pie with a cracked black pepper and parmesan curst top 8f you want to review that..... Absolutely beautiful steak pie
I'm glad you realised that eating sausage rolls without brown sauce is a crime against humanity.
"Come have a look at what I got" ... Love these vids.

Plus yes I have a pepper grinder at work that has heavy use. Grinder because keeps peppery longer.

Hi, Gareth I never go by the use-by date if it smells ok and tastes ok it will be fine I've never had any problems.
Good point like me
Not tried the pukka one but will now thanks for the review pal
You're welcome
The walls one at Tesco is on offer a few times a year. I've picked it up for around 50/60p but only if you have a clubcard
Good point
Love sausage rolls had some over the holidays.........bought a large pack from asda £2 and some from the coop bakery £?......warm with ice cold tomato sauce both very nice
Sounds great!
Thank you kindly 👍
Seeing these sausage rolls has made me hungry and I've got ready made frozen ones in the freezer. I think I'd go with you on this one Gareth and go for the Walls brand. 😋
Sounds great! Cheers James, all the best pal
Happy new year!🎉🍻🍻🍻👍
Happy New Year!

Thanks for watching!
Cheers bud will take a look in Morrisons for it, all the best 👍👍
Yes not everyone can afford brand names we can but we are like everyone else want to save money and the more people that start getting budget buys the less people will feel uncomfortable, I’ve even recommended cheaper brands when I pick them up to whoever is beside me, your channel is great for highlighting the taste and the price those budget ones with some beans one or two chips would be a half decent meal especially if three or four in a family

@@BaldFoodieGuy ah ok, we've got Cooplands bakeries in Yorkshire, though they could sell these in b and m
I've always bought the budget ranges and though the Asda essentials is not great the sausage rolls for the price are very decent.

Great review. Gareth.
Wouldn’t mind you trying other brands too.

I think that’s why I prefer a Ginsters Cornish pasty , lots of cracked pepper inside . Days are gone though when you could nab one for £1 in supermarkets though ..
Try Sainsbury's or Mark's and 'Spensive own brand their pasties are made by Ginsters (Samworth Brothers)
I like the Morrison's foot long sausage rolls, the last one I bought was 13 inches long - a bonus!
Bonus indeed
I''ve been putting a pack of 8 Tesco sausage rolls in the fridge for weeks. A tip is to wrap each in a small freezer PET bag when you open the box, they stay fresher that way. I have them with HP fruity sauce as Tesco don't have Branston sauce, and normal HP does not do it for me. Asda is too far away, and the car park is always packed, so we don't go there often.

I really like the asda ones. Good value. I will definitely try the others. I do like a good sausage roll in a sandwich with brown sauce.
Sounds great!
Pukka and walls both good brands and food, so a bit odd that there's a 25p price difference but maybe it comes down to overheads and costs. Back in the day it was walls everywhere for ice cream and it's still as good today. With today's cost of living, the cheapest brands will survive.

Cheers Elle, thank you, yes I see you watch many of my videos. This is quite an old one. All the best 👍
@BaldFoodieGuy Thanks, Gareth. Playing catch-up I've only recently find these. Whilst I love living here in Spain, your channel is a daily dose from home and your dialect is soothing (if you know what I mean!)
You had Ketchup and brown sauce in the Van????how many miles to the gallon did you get using that Mixture????
🤣
I've not tried any of those, I normally to go Morrisons and buy their store brand. One sausage roll I don't like is Ginsters. For the price 12p per sausage roll is a great deal, maybe not the best but when you're watching the pennies supermarket brands are a good option.
Good to know!
Coming from Huddersfield , we always bought our Pies and Pasties from proper Butchers and just assumed everyone elses were as good ! , however from starting to work away in Towns and Cities down south they had bugger all as nice , then we obs ended up by buying these prepacked bags of sh............

I tried
The pukka pork sausage roll once and its pretty alright to befare wonder how asda tastes like might get them
Hummm Pukka 27% pork and has more protein per 100gr than the Walls with 28% pork.

Happy New year Gareth., and we make our own by buying your own favourite sausage and just use the meat in choice of your own puff pastry 👍👍👍
Happy new year!🎉🍻🍻🍻👍
Was looking at getting some sausage rolls so checked your play list, we normally get the asda just essentials sausage rolls but just fancied something different.
