The Counting Crows are my favorite band. Skill, Creativity, Authenticity & lyrically poetic and powerful stanza’s such as these set them apart from most other artists . There is such an ache in Adams vocals as well as a unique tone as he walks the edge of stage ~ amidst a changing heartbeat of percussion . Fantastic!
I agree. I bought "August..." about a year after it came out. I bought it for the hits, I admit. I remember playing it the first time and liking it but when it came to the last track "A Murder of One" I literally jumped off the couch. What a killer track!
We saw the Counting Crows in El Paso on August 4, 2014, and they totally blew me away. Adam's voice was spot on, loud and proud and in your face. The band is great, so much emotion was coming out through their music that certain songs were drawing tears to my eyes, this song being one of them. Go see them if you can!
I was given the cassette for this album, and never bothered to listen to it until a week or two ago. Things are growing on me, but this is an absolutely fantastic song to end the album. Glad I could find a video of a live performance from (almost all the way) back in the day.
The number of meanings in this song are amazing. A group of crows in a murder. The singer is singing to a woman who is dying in a relationship where she cannot be herself - one person murdered, if you will. Plus it gives the meaning of the band's name. And a fantastic performance.
I just saw CC two weeks ago in ATL. Completely amazing how much different Adam was as a frontman then as he is now. They're still amazing none the less
Blue morning, blue morning Wrapped in strands of fist and bone Curiosity, kitten Doesn't have to mean you're on your own You can look outside your window He doesn't have to know We can talk a while, baby We can take it nice and slow All your life is such a shame, shame, shame All your love is just a dream, dream, dream Well, are you happy where you're sleeping? Does he keep you safe and warm? Does he tell you when you're sorry? Does he tell you when you're wrong? Well, I've been watching you for hours It's been years since we were born We were perfect when we started I've been wondering where we've gone All your life is such a shame, shame, shame All your love is just a dream, dream, dream Well, I dreamt I saw you walking Up a hillside in the snow Casting shadows on the winter sky As you stood there counting crows One for sorrow, two for joy Three for girls, and four for boys Five for silver, six for gold Seven for a secret never to be told But there's a bird that nests inside you Sleeping underneath your skin Yeah, when you open up your wings to speak I wish you'd let me in All your life is such a shame, shame, shame All your love is just a dream, dream, dream Open up your eyes, you can see the flames, flames, flames Of your wasted life, you should be ashamed Yeah, you don't want to waste your life, baby You don't wanna waste your life now, darling You don't wanna waste your life, baby You don't wanna waste your life now, darling Oh, you don't wanna waste your life now, babe I said, you don't wanna waste your life now, darling Oh, you don't wanna waste your life now, baby Oh, you don't wanna You don't wanna waste your life now, darling Change, change, change Change, change, change Change, change, change I walk along these hillsides In the summer 'neath the sunshine I am feathered by the moonlight falling down on me I said, I walk along these hillsides In the summer 'neath the sunshine I am feathered by the moonlight falling down on me I said, I will walk along these hillsides In the summer 'neath the sunshine I am feathered by the moonlight falling down on me I said, I will walk along these hillsides In the summer 'neath the sunshine I am feathered by the moonlight Change, change, change Change, change, change Change, change, change Oh, change, change, change Oh, change, change, change Oh, change, change, change Change, change, change change Change, change, change, change, change

God this is so 90s and I'm here for it. I miss seeing live music that has the authentic vibe of people actually playing live music.

One of my favorite Counting Crows songs. :)
You have great taste.
I love seeing Adam cutting loose towards the end
Blue morning, blue morning
Wrapped in strands of fist and bone
Curiosity, kitten
Doesn't have to mean you're on your own
You can look outside your window
He doesn't have to know
We can talk a while, baby
We can take it nice and slow
All your life is such a shame, shame, shame
All your love is just a dream, dream, dream
Well, are you happy where you're sleeping?
Does he keep you safe and warm?
Does he tell you when you're sorry?
Does he tell you when you're wrong?
Well, I've been watching you for hours
It's been years since we were born
We were perfect when we started
I've been wondering where we've gone
All your life is such a shame, shame, shame
All your love is just a dream, dream, dream
Well, I dreamt I saw you walking
Up a hillside in the snow
Casting shadows on the winter sky
As you stood there counting crows
One for sorrow, two for joy
Three for girls, and four for boys
Five for silver, six for gold
Seven for a secret never to be told
But there's a bird that nests inside you
Sleeping underneath your skin
Yeah, when you open up your wings to speak
I wish you'd let me in
All your life is such a shame, shame, shame
All your love is just a dream, dream, dream
Open up your eyes, you can see the flames, flames, flames
Of your wasted life, you should be ashamed
Yeah, you don't want to waste your life, baby
You don't wanna waste your life now, darling
You don't wanna waste your life, baby
You don't wanna waste your life now, darling
Oh, you don't wanna waste your life now, babe
I said, you don't wanna waste your life now, darling
Oh, you don't wanna waste your life now, baby
Oh, you don't wanna
You don't wanna waste your life now, darling
Change, change, change
Change, change, change
Change, change, change
I walk along these hillsides
In the summer 'neath the sunshine
I am feathered by the moonlight falling down on me
I said, I walk along these hillsides
In the summer 'neath the sunshine
I am feathered by the moonlight falling down on me
I said, I will walk along these hillsides
In the summer 'neath the sunshine
I am feathered by the moonlight falling down on me
I said, I will walk along these hillsides
In the summer 'neath the sunshine
I am feathered by the moonlight
Change, change, change
Change, change, change
Change, change, change
Oh, change, change, change
Oh, change, change, change
Oh, change, change, change
Change, change, change change
Change, change, change, change, change
great song and this is a good performance
4:40 makes me smile...love it!
i always felt like adam duritz was my good friend. when i was young, during their first and second albums.
I have gone to Paris and I have been to Rome, I have gone to London and I am all alone
no wonder hes alone hopping around like that
;)
Thats the best description of how I feelt
Ya, I loved "August & Everything After" and "Hard Candy" was pretty good too. But these days Adam looks 50lbs heavier and his voice is now terrible.
Why can't they just sing it the way it's supposed to be. That's my only problem with this band.
they can't
