To clarify some things. The dude with the swords it's commonly called Katana Man, at the restaurant he showed a picture of his granddad, he was the guy to whom Denji owed money on the first episode. Katana Man also said before shooting Denji the he heard the Gun Devil is after his heart, so it's safe to assume they are related

Painsaw Man is here🥲 btw to clarify on the Curse Devil, aka Aki’s nail’s whole deal, the blondie mentioned that when someone is stabbed by that nail enough times, they just die. So the 321 countdown was indicating how many times left Aki needs to stab his opponent before the curse takes over and kills them

Like the sleeping beauty curse where on certain age she will sleep forever until she received a true love kiss but curse devil curse doesn't have any antidote. It's either you die or not. Aki use the curse power like a sword but in the future there's another character that will use the curse power in a stealthy manner where the one getting curse doesn't even realise it until the curse condition is met.

Himeno hasn’t just lost a partner, she’s lost 6 of them by the time her and Aki became partners. That puts a lot of strain on a person.

Every time I see Himeno's arm disappear, the tears start welling up... that scene is so intense and sad and beautiful all at the same time... masterful storytelling...
What I find so powerful is the way she dedicates and thrusts her arm out, knowing it will disappear.
She's bold and ferocious yet quietly fading, and the contrast hits like a truck.
When she says the line about crying for her, I can't help but tear up too.
Beautiful, tragic, and so moving, especially with the music.
I've rewatched it countless times.

@@kyroking9934 CSM and JJK is basically the same genre, the "Japanese supernatural folklore" Genre. all about spirits, curses, and living peoples emotion effecting "Kami" and vise versa.

@@kyroking9934I also thought so, especially their dynamic trio. I mean.. trio‘s like that are very popular in manga/anime since Naruto. I mean especially duo‘s like sasuke and Naruto but that doesn’t really apply to this one I believe.
Also, Curse skill in Pokemon is literally animated as stabbing enemy with a nail three times while sacrificing half of your life.
I enjoy how Fujimoto sets up the story with enough details about and interactions between each character through actual events (hunts, meetings, parties) rather than exposition. Which is why when events start happening and people start dying, you feel it

This one hurt :(. One thing mentioned quickly in this episode was that Himeno wanted Denji to help her get with Aki in exchange for her helping Denji get with Makima 😪.
"Kon" is actually a Japanese onomatopoeia for the sounds foxes make, the Fox Devil most likely doesn't have a name.

Great reaction as always! One non-spoiler thing to clear up regarding the gun devil. It was explained in ep5 that following a terrorist attack in The US people began to buy guns for their protection. This lead to a spike in gun-related crimes, death from guns etc. which in turn increased the level of fear around guns themselves. This lead to the gun devil coming into existence and its subsequent international attack that killed 1.2 million people in just a few minutes
Worth noting that the 1.2 million killed was around the world and not just Japan.
I think you got that backwards actually. The terrorist attack is what set off the Gun Devil incident

"Cry for me, Aki", bro... she dying hits hard, I didn't felt like this in the manga. I was like "oh well, she died". The direction and the voice acting does make a diference.

So you used get full marks on Kishibe's test before the anime changed that.
Rewatching this is gonna be painful AF. I read these events in the manga quite some time ago, but it still just destroys me every single time😭
It's sad how Himeno went out. At the same time, vice versa it would be worse, I think. She already mourns 5 partners that came before Aki and probably has surivors guilt.
If Aki had died saving Himeno, I honestly think Himeno would have become a wreck at best - more boozing, smoking, sleeping around, if she didn't meet her end, one way or the other, soon after. Aki was her anchor keeping her kind of sane and going strong. We saw her break down just at the possibility of Aki dying in the hotel.
It's no real solace but after all Himeno was already heavily injured, therefore I think her sacrificing everything to keep Aki safe for now was the best outcome, or at the very least, the thing she would always choose to do. 😔
Himeno was such wholesome character, her death will stuck with me for a while. Its been a while when show shocked me like this
She can be a lot of things but not wholesome, she was about to have sex while drunk with an underage dude
She just seems like a fearful and desperate soul to me
Oh boy. You're gonna be in one hell of a ride. Just make sure you're not looking for any major spoiler except if you wanna read the manga. The twist and the cruel shit Tatsumaki (the author) put his character in is amazing as hell. I can't wait to see this 2 reaction towards the future arc.
That fight between aki and katana man is probably one of my favorite fights in the last couple of years. I wish it was longer

I'm still recovering my heart is 💔, I liked her, she wasn't perfect and she knew it, sort of said sorry for Denji and when they made their "contract" she said that ther are not just coleagues they are friends now. So wholesome character. She went through a lot, lost lot of people on the way and the moment she realised she was about to die anyway she decided to save as many friends as she could especially Aki. At least she had a chance to say her goodbye😭

This is the best episode of this season 100%. Hyped me up for the rest of the show.
I wanna talk about the details about the Curse Devil. Firstly, Aki uses a nail to strike his target. It's so similar, if not the exact idea of using Voodoo Doll and pins to harm someone remotely. Except, what you strike is the individual itself in Aki's case. The countdown that the Curse Devil speaks, I think is the amount of stabs Aki needs for the Curse Devil to finish his target, because when the Curse said “0”, Aki instructed the devil to finish him off.
I also had thesame thought of the countdown being related to numbers of years to Aki's life, but it doesn't really make sense when you think the curse Devil Counts downward.
Another detail I wanna mention incase you guys missed is the devil helping Aki to stab his target. Whenever Aki says "Now", a hand appears momentarily which seems to be the Curse Devil's, to propel Aki straight in whatever direction he's facing. Further putting an emphasis to the Voodoo doll idea.
The show was already good before this episode, but this is the episode that truly gripped me. The train scene left me stunned for a solid 10 seconds, and the downward spiral from there all the way up to Himeno's sacrifice just had me enthralled.
Gotta appreciate how realistic this show is, especially for such an outlandish premise.

Finally you got this episode which is this is where Chainsawman crazy journeys really started.
The Manga is ongoing. The current storyline will probably span about 2 to 3 (maybe 4) seasons if each season is about 12 episodes. The new storyline has started in the manga.
One interesting thing that a comment pointed out was that when Denji asks Himeno why she liked Aki, she said "His look". But her real answer was her monologue during the Yakuza guy fight.
"Aki can cry".
The concept for devils is very simple. The more people are afraid of anything the stronger the devil that embodies whatever the fear is for is. So i.e. pretty much most people in the world are afraid of dying, so the death devil is completely in a league of its own. Likewise there are other just as powerful devils and a ton of weak ones that embody something that people have irrational fears of like the tomato devil in episode 1.
Also that is Katana man, a hybrid like Denji.
Considering how powerful the death devil might be, the guy got a second life pretty easily.

The manga concludes alot of the stories within part 1 ending with 97 chapters Part 2 started added a new protag and its up to 114
Himeno dies at 25 or 26. I think part 1 will have 3 seasons.

There are 3 types of human/devil interactions. Contracts, they come in many forms. Fiends, when a devil takes over a human body, usualy dead/completely. Then you have Denji and others like him. They are "hybrids", a fan term and in universe they are never referred to as such, as hybrids no longer exist.
I'm super shock too when I first watch this episode. Previous scene still having good interaction between teams members but the next minutes Himeno die. What a plot twist.
The bad guy isn't a fiend. He's like Denji. He's called Katana Man.

In case you guys didn't know. Japan has an extremely strict ban on guns so it's super surprising to see them be used.

This episode is so good, at first you can't really decide what to think about Himeno and then have her redeem herself by sacrifice. Really makes the viewer feel guilty.
Well, with everything that happened this episode I forgot the show broke the trope of "oh, I'm coughing blood. I'll just walk it off in a few minutes."

edit: The manga is on going, the mangaka actually took a break for almost 2 years after part 1 of Chainsaw Man which is volume 1 to volume 11 (this 12 episodes Anime are very small parts of part 1, The Public Safety arc/saga). Volume 12 just released in Japan 2 months ago. Can't wait for volume 12 but have to wake for like 10 to 12 months i guess for English release.
I remembered the first time I read this arc in the manga and it was fucking all over the place. I was simping hard for Himeno that time too and bruh, her death made me took a break before reading another chapter again.
I read the manga so I wasn't really interested in watching the anime since I knew the story already but now I checked it out and dang I totally forgot about the feels in these parts I'm crying again

Probably already got explained on patreon or whatever but Power says "mate" when referring to seggs because she speaks in thr masculine form of old Japanese. Not necessarily super accurate old Japanese but the certain ways she refers to herself or others are old fashioned. But it makes sense if she's been around since that time. Although its also common for mangakas to give their characters a certain phonetic way of speaking for no rimor reason so it can be a case of that as well.

I loved this episode so much. Specially when it came to Himeno. Her character was developing very well into a lovable and respectable character. But seeing her death so early on in the series really sucked for me, mostly because i was just starting to like her

Just to clarify a Fiend is when a Devil takes over the body of a deceased human. Denji and "Katana Man" are a different case where they have the heart of a Devil but they're still alive.
