@@agreatalternative It is the name of my bear! Long story 🤣 I took him to England with me and photographed him all over the place. He had a blog called Horatio Bear Has Been There, grand plans that didn’t really eventuate. My grandchildren followed Horatio’s capers on Facebook. The photo is of him in the garden of Avebury Manor, Wiltshire in 2014.

Interesting. We no longer love in an area where roots etc are plentiful.
This is something my wife would enjoy. She is very good at hand carving and whittling.
She has made some amazing things out of diamond willow.
I’ve never heard of diamond willow (*typing it into google now 😁).
Do you have silver birch? Most of this was birch twigs, just the gnarly bit around the rim was roots, although it could be anything really!
Well done (both the basket and the video overall)! Sad to see the deforestation, but at least you were able to harvest some roots and plant something back in the ground.
It will show up when you Google it. She has made waliing sticks, canes and have and coat racks with it .
No Silver Birch. We do have a Silver Aspen .

Maybe silver aspen would work?
I’d just try the ‘wrist test’, if you can wrap it around your wrist without the branch snapping then it should be ok for weaving!
I need research “identify birch”.
