    Thanks Kyle and Rhino v7! Very useful for someone like me that has a whole library of tsplines models. Thanks

      Alas, if I understand correctly, my library of T-Splines models will NOT by usable with v7 unless I also have an installation of Rhino v5 *with T-Splines* still available for exporting those in box mode - right?

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  3 роки тому

      correct. A workaround is to open them in v7, quadremesh them and then use tosubd to recover the ability to edit a subd model. It will likely have slightly different topology, but is a way to recover and reuse those assets.
      You can also ask for help on the rhino forum, several of us still have copies of TS and you may find/hire someone willing to do the conversion for you if you have a lot of valuable assests.

    It will be great to add history recording to subd objects. Especially when converting subd to nurbs. And also add possibility to define regions for conversion to nurbs (like it was in tsplines)

    Hey, Kyle. I started learning Rhino from v7, and I have few questions about most popular addons/plugins. Don't you have a video on that? Rhino has million plugins, would be nice to hear what is good for what from an expert. Thanks in advance!
    1. As I understand T-Splines are fully replaced with SubD toolset in v7? Are they really the same, or there still might be reasons to go back for T-Splines?
    2. And what is your opinion on xNurbs? On video demonstrations it looks like loft/patch, which can automatically fill holes in complex surfaces with G2 continuity... But I'm confused here... I thought any Nurbs soft should be able to do it by default! Is it really worth the money, or you can achieve it with Rhino default tools?
    3. Maybe you can name other plugins worth mentioning?

      TBH, I don't use many plugins myself. Tsplines is gone, so Subd in rhino is your only option at the moment. xnurbs is very well liked by many product design users. I believe they have a free trial, I'd give it a go and see what you think. The only other plugins I use are "peters tools", which is a little utility plugin that has some nice automations and streamlining tools.
      what type of work do you do? It would be a good idea to ask this question on our forum which is discourse.mcneel.com

    I use TSplines for my daily work (topology workflow) and I also try Rhino 7WIP. Sub-D is good but it's lacking some functions such as Append surface on scan mesh,uv unwrap..

      we're working on it! work in progress! ;-)

    • @Rhinoceros3d

      you can snap a face to vertex now, the append feature is working for scans in the latest wip- give it a try!

    Hi, thank you for your tutorial, i have a problem with WELD vertex in SubD, please help me

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  4 роки тому

      try the stitch command! Also if you have a model with coincident verts you can use join-

  • @RhinoPRO

    It won't respect creased edges, or will it? in the video there are only "soft creased" ones. Keep on, anyway)

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  4 роки тому

      It should, but rhino and tsplines handle creases differently. Rhino can only crease a complete edge, tsplines could fade one. So the results from tsplines to rhino may vary a bit. The biggest issue is t junctions are not supported, so you will have to do a little clean up once you get your model into rhino.

      @@Rhinoceros3d I try avoiding T points whenever it's possible. Quads & hardcore. Ok, some tris maybe 🙄 Is full edge crease a fundamental limitation? Partial crease a useful feature when it behaves

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  4 роки тому +1

      Rhino PRO currently yes. Fading creases is a project that is slated for a future release. The good news, subd is now a 1st class citizen in rhino and will continue to grow and develop with each new release.

    I hope (TS) can be updated, and I like (TS) manipulator.

      never gonna happen, ts is an autodesk product now. ;-(

      I second this - their view plane manip alignment is so convenient when modelling something really freeform

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  4 роки тому +1

      @@RhinoPRO we already have a view cplane and view based drag mode.
      view based drag mode is particularly useful for SubD.

    It seems that the old T-splines is far better than Rhino subd
    I think Rhino 6 and newer should allow the installation of old plugins from Rhino 5.
    The Rhino 7 subd is inferior than T-splines

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  4 роки тому +2

      Have you tried it? Rhino Subd is far less fragile than tspines was.

      @@Rhinoceros3d Try to convert SubD to Nurbs and see the difference, T-splines is very old, very good, why is so difficult to make the same features in a new software? Why Rhino 6 blocked old plugins?
      There is a lot of old and good plugins that will not work in Rhino 6, but they will not be updated or replaced by new ones, example:
      melonsoft.wixsite.com/
      This is a plug-in that make convex hull of a planar curve, there is no other plug-in like this one, and it is an abandoned software, and there is no equivalent command in Rhino

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  3 роки тому

      plugins are made and maintained by 3rd party vendors, if you are missing one of your favorites, Please contact the developer and ask them to update to v7!
