Swanage Railway 30/05/2021

The bank holiday weekend would see some glorious weather gracing the county of Dorset; as summer sits on the horizon, and the public flocked to the Isle of Purbeck.
The Swanage Railway were operating their revised Yellow timetable which, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, saw two trains in service along the Purbeck branch line; working the 6 mile stretch between Swanage and Norden. The revision of the timetable saw the removal of a return service for each locomotive - pausing for an extended period at Swanage allowing the locomotive crews to take a break, and for the coaches to be throughly cleaned.
Standard 2MT - 78018, visiting from the Great Central Railway, would rub shoulders with 34028 "Eddystone" as the pair worked services along SR metals. 78018 is visiting the Swanage Railway to help cover a brief steam locomotive shortage, while 34072 "257 Squadron" receives attention in Herston Works. This weekend also marked the conclusion of 34028's first week back in revenue earning service, following the Bulleid pacifics' extensive overhaul by its owners; Southern Locomotives Ltd.
Locomotives:
BR Standard Class 2MT - 78018 "Borough of Darlington" (name only carried on one side)
Ex-SR Rebuilt 'West Country' Class - 34028 "Eddystone"

Thank you for an excellent mix of trains and countryside (and livestock). The rebuilt "West Country" reminds me of a memorable trip on the Up "Royal Wessex" in 1958 when we so early that we had to wait for a road at Wimbledon - and were still 10 minutes EARLY into Waterloo - Oh for the much maligned British Railways!
