Francois Rabbath - "Le Cri de Venise"

The Queensland Conservatorium was lucky enough to have the master of the Double Bass, Francois Rabbath, visit for a Recital and Masterclass. This was the second final piece he presented to us before leaving.

I remember when one his old pupils, Barry Green, came and played this at my university. Still one of my favorite music compositions ever. The story behind it was he composed it in response to Venice's slowly deteriorating state at the time.

Fabulous! It is wonderful to hear a double bass played soloistically with standard tuning rather than the tuning a whole step higher, which denatures and unnaturally lightens the sound of the instrument without improving projection.

oh my good god...I've never heard the original composer version quite like this.. except maybe from McNally appearance.
I love Barry Green's interpretation, but obviously only the creator can recapture it in its purest form.
