You could purchase suits/fitted shirts/ties at Barons if I’m not mistaken. I miss Northgate, a lot of memories there as a kid. Just up 85 from Butner, instead of driving too Crabtree or Southpoint (both twice the distance)
My wife and I spent our teenage years at the mall on fridays and saturdays.(late 1970s and early to mid eightees). Our school freinds cruized Guess road from "Honeys" restaurant at 85 to the mall parking lot. Many great memories.
Hungates in this mall is where a lifetime of rpgs. Also used to take son there for the merry go round. We live 4 blocks away, can’t wait for those huge apartments to go up. 😢
I am glad that you gave the viewers some insight into what the mall once was. I have lived in the area for twenty-five years and the only thing I remember about this mall, as you mentioned in your video, was the carousel. Sad to see all these great, old malls, coming to the end of their lives.
I was a military recruiter in the area. They would make us walk that mall and it was falling off then. You should make sure to keep up with this footage. May be good for a documentary about what Durham is becoming.
It was a cool mall used to be a anime store with anime merch and videogames eons ago yes I went to the old Babbage's it was bought out and all changed to game stop and Suncoast loved Suncoast they struggled financially got bought out by best buy and then they just let the company rot til it was game over for them 😔😔 as for the mall it did not survive the COVID 19 pandemic and owners sold it to a construction company that was going to turn it to office space but the city of durham NC and the residents and other people in the city have protested that say it should be used as a space to address affordable housing issues and used for other uses instead as for the mall before that it was bad alot of crime store employees having issues with criminals at the mall and other various crime related issues and south point mall they had to compete with and a police sub station in the mall sped up it's demise sad it is I miss this mall r.i.p..northgate mall I will always remember the Sbarro pizza 🍕 from the food court the orange Julius from DQ there and the mtv photo new on clearance from Suncoast video the anime store me and my brother knew the owner of good times indeed🎉😎👍💯
@@relicman yes 80-90's has a lot of shopping malls I visited south square mall was awesome back in the day in Durham NC along south square Mall once was where a target is at in Durham NC along with other stuff 1990's was 😎 👍
Trippy. The Northgate Mall in Cincinnati is almost a clone of this but it's doing a little better. In fact I was confused at first because I thought this was the Cincinnati one since the design is so similar.
Makes you wonder if some malls could be built by the same people or if they are chains. Like all the Malls malls now that all have the same layout such as Pittsburgh Mills and Concord Mills near Charlotte and so on.
Awesome video! I worked at silver odyssey pinball and video arcade in the late 70’s early 80’s. Me a another guy that worked there went to this mall among others to set records on centipede, defender and asteroids. ;) he was excellent at defender and I was pretty good at centipede and asteroids.
Always preferred this mall over south point had so many memories here as a kid
Are you old enough to remember South Square Mall?
@@relicman I know of it and seen videos, my parents used to always go there when they had time off but sadly I wasn’t born yet
The mall was getting old but driving ALL THE WAY TO SOUTH POINT takes forever 😭 still am going to miss it
I still like Southpoint though. See I grew up with South Square Mall which was on 15501 where the Target is now. I miss both of those malls.
The 80’s to 90s were sooo great there as a kid
So many memories in Northgate mall. I do remember when belk was there before the movies was there

So sorry I missed your message man. What a great story and thanks so much for sharing that, Scott!
Bullcity!! Good memories at that mall.
We loved the Sears. So many memories. Awesome food court, I remember Sbarro Pizza.
Anyone remember Casanos pizza? Mmm! This is so sad.

Thanks Matt and I sure hate to see it go as well.

I’ll have to check that out before all the dinosaurs go extinct.
My goodness the sadness I remember as a kid the NG mall was the place to be if not at Hamilton Place.
The north gate theater just went out of business again

That's so cool! Thanks for sharing that! Thank you so much Slowride.
Now was this arcade in the mall or near it?
Cinema has closed permanently August 2023
Unfortunately the mall became the hang out for gangs and drug dealers and between the murders and robberies the mall just turned to shit.
@@AmericanPatriot82 Four Seasons has had that issue as well.
When I saw the title said Northgate, I thought you were talking about this one Mexican Grocery store by the same name
Oh i'm sorry, but I'm sure there are many places called that around the country.
@@relicman You're fine. It's a great vid BTW
@@DarkLink1996 Thanks so much!
