Best movie about Naval Warfare. Hands down " Das Boot." 1981. A movie about a German submarine crew. It did very well at the Box office. Very well made in all respects. Technically correct about actual submarine operations. Great script, wonderful directing, good casting and acting. Photography very good. Sound is good. Highest grossing film in Germany year it was released. Nominated for several categories by Academy Awards. Take note: there were several versions made, depending on the country it was to be released in. Interesting fact, even in English speaking nations, the audience actually preferred the German language version. Saw all their versions , they are all good. And there is the long version, which gives more background on the crew. Honorable mention to the Movie, "The Enemy Below." USN officer, retired years ago.
A number of movies I wouldn't classify as "War Movies" Another one to add to the list would be "The Cruel Sea" IMDB 7.4 Another one "The Caine Mutiny" (1954) IMDB 7.7 Plus I agree Das Boot (1981) rates higher than Tora! Tora! Tora!
I am oficial Navy Inspector Navy Submarine, and Airforce 16 F Grup, this movies is Extraordinary Like documentary, history, about, whatappen in the past conflict the USA and the Brithis. Congratulations Thanks.
Midway, Normandy and Stalingrad already have several movies. So why won't they make movies about the battles of Jutland, Cape Matapan, the Phillippine Sea and Leyte Gulf yet? It's not fair!
I think there's several factors, first being that most people just aren't as familiar with navy battles as with battles like Normandy or Stalingrad. Then there's the difficulty in filming battleships, they're enormous and there's only 8 in the world and they don't move, like one of the reasons Battleship(2012) looks so good is they were able to film Missouri while she was being towed from the yard, getting good looking footage of a battleship is very very difficult. The other thing is that destroyers and submarines make for more personally dramatic tight knit stories with notable characters, battleships have over 1000 people on board and they don't have the crazy tight maneuvers, torpedoes, and missiles that most navy movies go crazy for. Personally I'd still absolutely love to see battleship-focused movies as there are some amazing stories to tell like the night action off Guadalcanal but they take enormous investment for what will likely be a smaller audience than another movie about shooting Nazis.
If you really want to know about Naval warfare I highly recommend the USN made series. "Victory at Sea." Used to be available on UA-cam. More of a documentary. Very well made.
No hate, but most of those movies are pretty old, which makes it hard to put yourself in the situation (because the scenes are unrealistic) and the other ones, newer one are almost completly without any action. Thats quite the opposite of what a human awaits from "war" movies. They are more like documentaries :D
U-571? A garbage film. Totally unrealistic, and inaccurate in so many ways. Saw it in the theatre, was so disappointed. Can't hold a candle to Das Boot.
U571 are you kidding me! Far better films like enemy below and Yamato (can’t spell it but about the sinking of Japans largest battleship), Sink the Bismark. Monochrome films like In Which we serve
Das BOOT the pronunciation of the oo is like in Ho not like in Moon.... and the T at the end is a hard one not like a d.... just to clear up why american movies except Inglourious Basterds never get it right........

I guess you didn't have to use the English language in your inspections?

exactly!!! Battle of samar/leyte gulf in general was literally the us navys most heroic battle... there could be a movie about taffy 3 alone

Tora! Tora! Tora! The number one!

Terrible list. What about all the great sub movies from the 1960s and 60s? Run Silent Run Deep is one.
U-571 is garbage.
we are not aware of movies from that era much.
U-571? A garbage film. Totally unrealistic, and inaccurate in so many ways. Saw it in the theatre, was so disappointed. Can't hold a candle to Das Boot.
I just watched this movie and looked up the real story bro it wasn’t bad
U571 are you kidding me! Far better films like enemy below and Yamato (can’t spell it but about the sinking of Japans largest battleship), Sink the Bismark. Monochrome films like In Which we serve
My question is what about the movie Midway?
this channel seems like it's run by people using a bot to read their script. dunkirk on naval war movies? wut.. the rest of it is trash too
I already mentioned this movie in a recent video USA vs Russia War movies. That video also has a bunch of naval warfare movies.
Das Boot at no.9??!!!
should be Number One
