  • Hope you like the end results. This is a good kit, large and interesting when care is given in certain areas. My only criticism being that the instruction illustrations are very unclear in places. It's a pity about the pilot, he would have just finished the Arrow off nicely. But time constraints and wanting to move on to another build when I get back finalized my decicions to leave him out.

A 'rara avis' this one! 🙂
It was in real life and it is now for me... since I am building mainly 1:48th scale kits.
    Nice natural metal finish!

True beauty. Alot of those late prototype aircraft were complete patchworks due to dispersed and iffy build qualiy. Great representation of plane that probably 3 or 4 may have been built, I think I've seen on pic of that type and don't have it my reference

Greg I just found your website and I am fascinated with your model building skills. Especially the way you paint details, the "contrast " definitely gives your models a special patina I have not seen or experinced before. I have not built in quite a long time, first I retired, second the year of confusion the pandemic brought on was very distracting. Fortunately while getting rid of a large majority of my kits, I kept several "starts but unfinished " to build up my skills again. Paint is going to be a starting over point because of all the changes. Humbrol was my previous brand of choice however the popular paint of the day seems to be Tamiya. I will study your videos for that. My questions after watching your videos is you mention a "wash". Prior to progressing to another build face, I would "wash" the model with a mild solution of liquid soap and water - is this what you are calling a wash? The Doeiner turned out excellent. Thanks in advance for your help I look forward to exploring your videos and new ones. I just subscribed.

I think the washes you mean are panel washes. These washes can come in many forms; oil, enamel, acrylic and water-based washes. The latter being idiot-proof which is why I use them more often than not. These are added to accentuate the surface detail, many videos on UA-cam showing how this technique is used.

@@GregsModels thanks Greg, you can tell I have been out of the game a while. I have seen a few of the "wash" techniques however, your technique is the most authentic for scale, and once again the engines are awesome. Once I "return" to building back the learning curve, decals will be offering the greatest challange. The old way was to spray the finished model with gloss, then apply decals, then go back and sray Matt finish. That was a lot of coating and sometimes you ended up destroying some of the detail you worked so hard on. Thanks for the feedback and update.

Woops reference file with that little material I'd take your approach, a what if. Beautiful finish, I've been using Model Master metalics and don't like the shade change after sealing and you have to seal that paint because it wears off easily. The sealant does make a good wear medium for scuffed metal but it tends to be shiny no matter if it was dull or buff to start. What metal spray do you prefer for something that will be handled some? I'm in the States and don't quite have the advantage of all the products the you have in Europe. I'd love to stroll thru Hannants sometime, but then I might stroke out too.

It's beautiful! Is there a chance you would do a video on your collection to date? I and I'm sure others would be very interested in something like that. Cheers!

Man, your canopy masking is incredibly precise! Are you printing them or just using tape? Mine are always ragged as h3ll.

Greg, should you not seriously consider to get some better light and a better camera to capture and display the beauty of your models and of all of their details in an appropriate manner which they deserve?
Beauty should be admired - not be wasted...!
