I met Noah in Birmingham at Bottletree. He let me in to meet Dave and Brian, and kick it for a minute. The show was sold out with nearly 100 pissed off people outside on the sidewalk. Told the guys we drove from FL. They were sympathetic. Told the doorman to check the guest list. We were promptly escorted to the front row. The look on my little sister and friends faces = priceless. Doubt Noah recalls it, but I'll never forget the way he shaped a young musician with just one kind gesture in '07.
Hah holy shit. I remember almost going to that show. I remember seeing it on the schedule for months and debating whether or not I would go. Is that the same tour they did the show in Atlanta?
I met them on Colfax in Denver after a show while I was loaded on live seven hits of acid and didn't know else what to say when I approached Avey Tare except "Are you in a band?"
I first heard this when I was probably 13-14 and it’s not until now that I realize how Grateful Dead it is to go from one song > another song > back to the first. Love this band, and love the Dead too
I agree because each time it subtly changes but when you're seeing this band like 6+ times on this tour and you hear those drums you're like "well here's 20 or so minutes gone" There's always something different and great to note otherwise why would I be on this video watching? But there are other songs (mostly older than this album) that I would rather hear in its place... even if I'd never seen them play Fireworks.
For me this incarnation of Who Could Win A Rabbit was like the few times they played it... it was highlight of the whole show. A few times I'd thought it was gonna be My Girls and was pleasantly surprised
i feel like crying and hysterically laughing whenever i watch a live performance by them its just so good and so many feelings i cant handle how much i love them
I’ve never loved a band more. I’ll never regret looking up summertime clothes and looking into more of their music. Didn’t like it at first but the first night I actually fully listened to in the flowers and understood it I knew I was hooked. I dream of seeing them live but don’t know when I’ll have the chance.
Back in 2011 or 2012, I actually flew to Baltimore with a friend so we could see them at the "Merriweather Post Pavilion" venue in Maryland and they were really good. I've seen them a few times here in Michigan as well and they've always been great live. It's been a really long time since I've seen them, but I would definitely recommend catching one of their shows if you ever get the chance.
fingers crossed they bring back this bad boy for the upcoming shows-SO pumped to hear the new material in person but by golly i’d die if I heard the beginning of fireworks
My friends and I rented the urban assault vehicle from the movie stripes. It had been bought and converted into a “party bus”. We were chauffeured from Denver to the Boulder theater. The show was incredible. Top 3 of all time! It was right after they released the fall be kind ep. They played what would I want sky. Sooooo goood!
This is probably the most amazing and intimate AC performance iv'e ever seen. And of some of their awesome older stuff... this is amazing... AC to me will forever be the most amazing band of our generation....
+Ristab Tzara I get grief for saying Davey is my favorite singer, because he obviously has a much greater range than Noah. Odd that people can't differentiate between vocal talent and song writing.
Followed them for a half dozen shows on their 2013 tour when I was a junior in college and killing time after coming back from studying abroad in Buenos Aires. Fucking amazing band. Also saw their Bonnaroo show in 2011 or 2012, obviously I still think about it a decade later. In the Flowers has new meaning for me now I’m a mom of 2 ❤️
i wonder if all those people realize how goddam lucky they are to be there. ive been steadily coming back to this video for 10 years, its my favorite live performance. avey is so animalistic and rad in this.
this is the most amazing live performance ive ever seen, my favourite band doing my favourite song in a way that blows my mind, youtube you're too kind to me :3
I always thought this was their best song, and for as many times as I saw them live during this era and the 2010's, I don't think I ever saw them play it once.
TheKontin well they played it last time i saw them, but i know what you mean by this. Certain songs just don't seem to make it on to their setlists anymore.
I must have gotten chills a dozen times. I think I'm done with music for tonight. I need to think about what I witnessed here. Wish I could have been there.
This set is the most electrifying thing I have heard in a long, long, LONG while. If you aren't spazzing out to the music by the halfway-mark, there must be something wrong with you.
It's really fun sometimes how they always change very specific parts of the song while still maintaining the frame of it. Even tiny changes like changing some samples from playing 8th notes to 16th notes. Or maybe changing the timing on the snare. I love the changes, it makes each performance so unique, its almost like a cover.
So good... I started tearing up when they broke back into the fireworks verse after the jam, it was just musical perfection. If everyone listened to this, the world would be a better place.
musicalman1995 no... It's awful (literally painful)... The bass... Edit: I re-listened to it and it was much better (probably cause my ears wore off from so much untitled). It's a nice album, but not for people with sensitive ears. Essplode is great tho.
musicalman1995 And Danse Manatee isn’t highly acclaimed by animal collective fans? I don’t understand, exactly what you mean by underrated? Critics didn’t like it? I was talking about all the people in my life who don’t give a shit about strawberry jam but can listen to merriweather easily. So yeah within the fan base it’s not underrated, but I haven’t been a big part of this fan base for... a decade now. In my life, no one give a shit about Strawberry Jam. I have like one friend who likes it, all my friends hate it. But Daily Routine or My Girls? That’s fine. Isn’t Danse Manatee also recorded really badly? Can’t we admit that? It’s like Daniel Johnston, good songs, hard to listen to.
Oh, my soul! I've been getting progressively more depressed for months now. That's what happens when you try to save your Animal Collective listening. I see now, that I was wrong... More joy than I know what to do with... ^_^
They are my favourite band ever too ;D and AC are probably my favourite currently existant band, and agreed, Floyd are unmatched genius. These guys have a similar vibe to early floyd i've often thought
I’m 52 years old, my son introduced me to AC, I’ve been blown away ever since, they are simply amazing
Enjoy
You raised a great son!
Love this!
I feel that.
Love that
everytime avey screams a child is born
Probably technically true
Hahahaha awesome
holy shit Panda's drumming is ridiculously precise, it sounds exactly like the album live wtf
Carson to be fair Strawberry Jam was recorded using a series of “live” takes in the studio with a few overdubs
@@FairEnoughDude fair enough dude
I mean, I would hope so.. kinda the job of a drummer
He entered what athletes commonly call “the zone”
wtf
i can only imagine how tired these guys must be after performances. they get so into it. it's beautiful.
Avey really just drooled ALLLLL over that microphone
The cameraman was loving it
how to be a microphone??
Animal collective makes me fix my posture
you should tell noah that haha
First AnCo song I ever heard: Peacebone
Second AnCo song I ever heard: Fireworks
Thanks, Myspace.

Medley/Jam Band style.
Wish they still played Fireworks live

That version of who could win a rabbit is probably my favorite thing that's ever been put to music holy shit
+Guy McGuy i feel you, guy
Jack Mctague exactly! Chills every time
Lynn true. Or essplode it’s so much better in this.
I love how they subtly change up their songs for live performances, that is a quality of this band that I really admire
Most bands change up their songs when they are live, at least a little bit, Just sayin'.
Go look up Phish
panda bear is actually a good drummer, never thought of him as a drummer before even though i saw him playing drums live
fingers crossed they bring back this bad boy for the upcoming shows-SO pumped to hear the new material in person but by golly i’d die if I heard the beginning of fireworks
i completely agree
essplode and slippi during this era would be amazing to hear
Noah is getting down on them drums.
when does he not, one of the most passionate drummer ever

Panda Bear is such a sick drummer ❤️

pushing the limits of music love how the just FEEL the music
I hope I have the chance to see them perform live sometime in my life. This is too perfect.
inpraiseofcats I just saw them for the first time last month in Covington. Have you gotten the chance yet? :0

i love all of you who love animal collective as much as i do
My favorite recording by AC
same. and thats saying a lot
pure perfection, this is what all music should aspire to be :-)
Jesus christ that little "ehhehh ehh ehh ehh" at 16:51 is such a little sprinkle of awesome
I could die after witnessing this performance, I would have had enough out of life. So well done.
they sound like a tribe chanting here in who could win a rabbit , i love it
The only way they can get people to listen to Danse Manatee tracks is if they sandwich them between fan favorite songs
Seeing them in la next year. Super stoked. This performance makes me feel like no other, I watch it at least once a week
I saw them in Chicago about a month ago. They are great.
I saw them in London a few months ago and about 90% of it was Painting With material, which kinda sucked
wish Avey would pick the guitar back up and start playing these jams again
We need more recordings of live shows. That’s where they shine
Hear those drums 😍
This performance is a treasure.
the best 18 minutes i've spend in weeks
lofianimation yup

When Panda starts drumming... HOLY SHIT!
They even let me pick the final encore ("May I bang like this?...). So yeah, you can be a popular musician AND good person! Who knew?...
Who Could Win a Rabbit? sounds almost like a medieval flute & lute duet.
I hope they play the Essplode version of Fireworks next time I see them live. Praying for it actually.
