How about the distance of the object ball to the rail. An object ball that is within a few inches of the rail will shorten the angle vs a ball on the same line not close to the rail. Maybe #6
I’ve seen all kinds of systems . I might not be doing it right but I’ve been learning where all the different diamonds and angles go. Sometimes I make them some times I don’t . But I’m getting better. I just don’t shoot them unless I have to or I’m confident I can make it .
I’ve been watching your videos like crazy and they’ve helped so much. I started playing league last week and I won my first match! Looking forward to learning more from both your channel and league experience.
What I like about banks is how many ways you can manipulate the shot to get the position you want with the cue ball. One item missing is the sliding vs rolling ball into the cushion.
In my area we play league pool on 7ft tables, everything else in on the 9ft diamonds. Takes a minute to adjust your bank game between the different size table
Good video, but I would mention cut and cut induced throw as one more reason for missing bank shots. Sometimes the position requires cut shot and you have to compensate for CIT.
Cut induced throw falls under the category of hitting the spot that you’re aiming for. So it’s a good point but it’s covered under that first category. Thank you very much for watching and leaving your comments.
Hey Bryan, this seems like a good place to ask. Some pros, such as Gareth Potts, suggest that OB "angle out" line can be manipulated by putting 'vertical' spin on the CB. That is, topspin to make the OB bank long, and draw to make it come short. Can you tell us if this is true, and more importantly, why exactly would it work this way? My first thoughts would be that if you put eg. topspin on CB, a small amount of draw should be transferred to OB, which should bend back the out angle if anything. Granted, the effect of this is likely very weak.
The transfer of vertical spin to an object ball would be minuscule. I understand why someone would think it was possible because we use it in certain instances like combination shots. But the effect on a bank shot in my opinion would be minimal.
The easiest way to avoid missing a bankshot is to NOT SHOOT IT! Typically it's the lowest percentage shot on the table. "Most" of the time that same bankshot will cut into a pocket, which, IMO, is a higher percentage shot. Just a thought. Great stuff, as always B!
Good info. If your aiming a bank that's line up frm the center to the corner, 4 to 2. Do you aim the Center of the OB directly at the diamond or just slightly off the diamond ?
I personally shoot banks intuitively, and the answer to your question depends on the table speed, and your stroke any other three things mentioned in the video. From a technical standpoint, you’re looking to hit the diamond as if the rail did not exist- so not in front of the diamond but AT the diamond.
At 1:15 you call out making a mark as cheating. I agree. Would you say the same for placing a piece of chalk on the rail, where one needs to hit to make their bank?
Another conideration that can be a topic for a video all on it's own: for identical speeds an object ball that is sliding or has less than natural forward roll when hitting the cusion will come up short of the angle in angle out line.
What about banking with polished balls and super clean rails????? What do you do when friction is almost not existent? I came across this a few times. Back cutting a bank in the side is super tough. I have to compensate with english.
When you’re playing on a very high level, there will be times you leave yourself a bank shot simply for position play - it doesn’t happen often, but it does happen.
I’m sorry, Larry. It seems that you missed the entire point of this video. The point being if I showed you the right spot you’ve got to do for other things perfectly to make the bank. There’s a ton of UA-camr showing you the right spot, but they don’t show you that it’s only 20% of what you need in order to make the shot. There are no quick fixes in this game. Shoot 1000 bank shots every week and you’ll be a better Bank shot shooter.
Best pool channel on UA-cam. Brian makes learning fun. Thanks brother 😂
"...Ya still have ta hit the spot!!!"
🤣 That really tickled my funny bone and is very true too, ty FXB
Best video ever about bank shots by far. Thanks Bryan, you really know what you are talking about. :)
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comments
Everything he says is on point and very true. I also live in Kentucky Louisville to be exact and I'm extremely good at banks myself
Thanks for taking the time to watch. Have a great new year. Keep killing those bank shots, buddy.

Very good video. The explanations were very helpful. Have slowed down my speed of the ball and game has improved.
Thanks for watching. Keep up the good work.

Great information 🎉...... Banks are closed if you don't have these things down.....

"Hey, it's APA, you're still shooting" lol

Per APA rules, the coach can mark the spot with chalk
Happy new year. Thanks for watching.
What the name of the video on Kentucky banking ?
The video is on www.FXBTV.com and it’s the directors cut of this same video. It’s just the last 2 1/2 minutes of the video.

Then after you learn your Banks then comes banking with positions. And that is a whole nother beast.
You got it, brother
Never leave yourself a bank 💯

You didn’t say how to find the right spot
