glad to hear that they are still going to keep it open, My local short track that has been open and running since 1954 was just sold and the new owners are going to build a hotel and houses over it....super sad that tracks just go away but its so good to hear there is still hope for Southern Oregon Speedway and a demand to back it up!
The nearest track to me is Selinsgrove Speedway. The future's kind of murky of that track even though they did have improvements. It kind of doesn't help that it's kind of being overshadowed by Port Royal Speedway, which is about half-an-hour to 45 minutes away from each other.
My Home Track during my childhood was the Silver Springs Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA. It was special due to strong weekly racing. Often over 50 Super Sportsman show up to race for 26 spots in the feature, with the top point guys often starting 15th in the feature. Sadly, the track closed for good at the end of the 2005 season was replaced by a shopping facility. Def a reminder to always supports a track before they close for good.
I grew up about 20 minutes away from Ascot Park raceway in Gardena, and spent countless Saturday nights in turn one , with my father and brother. Was gut wrenching when it was closed down in late 1990. :(
Used to go to The Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ascot when I was a kid. I know how you feel about Ascot closing as we had the same thing happen when we lost 2 of our local dirt tracks. First it was Vallejo Speedway and years later it was Baylands Raceway Park in Fremont. As of right now we still don't know the future of Calistoga Speedway, one of the most historic race tracks in California. Really sucks losing these tracks and all the good times we had going to them.
I was telling David who drives the 4 sprint car (used to run a 604 motor) that I think your dad should take it over and be the promoter. I have a feeling he doesn’t have the time but it would be so awesome if your family took it over.
Beautiful track!! We had one called Hialeah Speedway when I was growing up. Dad would pick me up for the weekends and that’s what we did on Saturday nights. Land was sold and now is a parking lot. Do what you can to help save that track. It can be done and showing this video I’m sure it will also help. Another great video Tanner 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Centimental...I get it our local track Warsaw Speedway in Warsaw, Indiana closed in 1988 ...if walls could talk the history alone is fascinating...our track closed because of 9 influential people that lived on Winona lake sued the fairgrounds due to the noise from the race cars. Racing is sucha holsum family deal it is sad! Even drivers as competitive as they are on the track would give the shirt off their back for another racer so they can race and help them out ! It is an overall family !!!
My local track was Flemington Speedway in NJ. They paved it in 1990, ran a few Craftsman Truck races there and it was included as a track in the Nascar Racing 4 expansion pack that included the trucks. NR4 was made by the iracing guys, back in 97 I believe. Land eventually became too valuable and they sold to developers and turned it into a shopping center. The track dated back to 1918. I moved to Oregon a couple years before it closed. Glad I missed seeing it be torn down and paved over. I hope someday iracing resurrects Flemington.
I hope they can find the right person or team to bring the place back to the park it was meant to be. The view from the upper grandstand looks like it would be awesome! Thanks for sharing and great job!
Hi Tanner, I grew up in Medford and now live in Missouri. There is Southern Oregon Kartways a paved road course Kart track out their too and also a R/C Model Airplane Flying Field out there Too also Agate Lake is in that area Too At leist there use to be as i have not been there for many years.
In 1969 we win the Championship in Super-modified. Silver Dollar in Chico and in Anderson Shasta Speedway the same year. Ford 302 Boss. When in Red Bluff. PM me and I'll show up and watch ya race. Have fun son God Bless ya
... I KNEW I recognized your name - You're Holmes 18t at Rogue Karting in Medford. I saw your name pop up on the Times of the week about 3 weeks ago. I keep hearing about a karting facility near White City, is that still open for business?
It was my only dirt track to ever race on I drove a street stock Malibu classic with a sm block 400. Back then I was living in Roseburg and raced it on asphalt in the J car class, full contact , my track name was Spiderman as I went over the turn 3 wall 2 years in a row in the same car and came back to win the following weekend in the same car both times. But yes So. Ore. Speedway means alot to me too. I hope it survives!
Don't feel to bad, this isn't anything new. A lot of track will turn into this shape after race season is over. Weeds and grass will grow on the track, all the grass surrounding will grow really high etc.. Then coming to the race season the owner will take the time and get everything nice and ready to race. Our local tracks start looking like this after the season is over. You'd never know it unless you went to the track or seen pictures. Then become really amazing tracks like they were before the off season.
Such a sad site in such beautiful country. I hope they get it going again. Grassroots racing is real racing! Nice of you Tanner to bring this awareness. Definitely the right thing to do for anyone with a platform. And honestly....this place needs private ownership. It really needs an owner who is truly a race fan.
Might need an vlog update on Willamette Speedway in Lebonon, Oregon. I heard that it's going to be in a similar state to Southern Oregon Speedway due to numerous health code violations and lawsuits against the owner who leased the track. Kinda sad, because my favorite Memory was watching the World Of Outlaws compete a few years back.
A little history lesson....Speedway Park (Jacksonville, FL) opened in 1948. They raced a little bit. Of everything, up to the NASCAR Grand National division. In 1963, Wendell Scott got.his only career win there. Over time, people moved in, and in 1973, Speedway Park closed, and a new track, JAX Raceways opened on the north side of town, about 15 miles from the original. Over time, the same thing happened, and in 2006, we lost JAX Raceways. We had a half mile, NASCAR sanctioned dirt track, and an eighth mile NHRA drag strip, and the kart track where I started my racing "career". It didn't matter, as people closed in, and complained, and property value went up, the track owner made to tough decision to sell. If you don't support it, you'll lose it. Trust me, we never thought we'd lose our home track. Now, we have to drive a minimum of an hour - hour and a half to race. Hope y'all can get it back!! Good luck!!
The home track for me is East Bay Raceway and in 2024 it’s being sold to the mines it’s gonna get torn down and dug up. It’s always sad to see a racetrack go but it hurts a lot more when it’s your home track. 🐐
Wow ashame hopefully they can recover. All of the tracks in pa ran regardless of the regulations set by the governor, and they could not actually stop it because a federal judge ruled that the regulation on crowd limits as unconstitutional.
NOTHING A LITTLE CLEAN AND PREP CANT HANDLE /LOKKING AT TRACK FACEBOOK WITH ALL THE TIKES AND THIER TROPHYS REMINDS ME THE AMERICAN SPIRIT ALWAYS RISES FROM THE ASHES WISHING YOU GUYS ALL THE BEST THINGS WILL CHANGE AND IT IS CLEAR YOU BOYS ROUND THERE AINT DONE KEEP SMILING AND KEEP THE HAMMER DOWN DUECES
It’s looking amazing!
They are working on it! Slowly there’s not really funding, but they are having a big go cart race this weekend!!
Just looked at this track a month ago in person. Looks like it's open again! In fine shape.
You should definitely do an update now!
For those of you that don't know, a group of locals took it over and are going ham on it.

@@Conorthedad Victoria BC western speedway (now called Westshore motorsports Park)

Come take a look at the track now!

Love this idea and love the new style of filming keep up the good work man
Your dad should buy this joint. 👍

Need to put some bank on those corners......more speed, more fun!!!
That stinks that happened we got lucky in PA most tracks ran most of the season in 2020.

This is super cool!
Gonna start prepping Banks Sunset Speedway this weekend. We also didn’t run at all last year.
I can’t believe people were trying to get him in trouble for trespassing

harsh winter haha
That wall of champions is insane for me. I grew up at Grove with the likes of Menne, Nutter, Rayburn and Winningham coming up I-5 every so often.
Great update Tanner. Would love to see this open up for some sprint action.
You should buy it make a dirt freedom factory
Wow hope it gets back open! And Hi tanner 👋
Is this the old Medford Speedway? If it is we used to race our midget there back in the early 70's sanctioned thru BCRA here in northern California.
This was Medford Speedways replacement!
@@TannerHolmes Thanks Tanner.
I hope they can find the right person or team to bring the place back to the park it was meant to be. The view from the upper grandstand looks like it would be awesome!

They closed our local speedway (Cajon Speedway). East of San Diego. A 3/8 paved oval. We still have Barona Speedway....
No sorry to here it abandoned
As someone who comes here multiple times a year to watch the races it makes me sad to see the track in this condition.

You should get a sample of the dirt for a memory
Will it be reopened?
It was reopened this season!

Thank you Tanner last time i was there was that Outlaw race Pittman won
Are you still in Oregon?
Get it going
Aside from the weeds, it looks just like it did in 2019 when we raced there.. Yreka has a schedule out for 2021 I've heard
reminds me of my father showing me Jungle Park before it was totally gone. there were trees growing through the grandstand. sooo sad🤧

Sad, but it’s what happens.
Track truthfully isn't in the worst shape. Couple weeks of work and it could definitely be in racing condition
I remember your first video here
Hey Tanner!
I'll relocate!!! Let's open it back up!!!!
Your awesome
Isn’t that where you made your first sprint car video
Hey tanner
Looks like a couple of weekends of working bees and it would be up to scratch for racing.
I was born on July 11th 04
tanner should bring out his sprintcar and rip some laps around the track
That’s sad that someone Abandoned a race track
@Gustavo Muchavo ok
Is that the track you guys are buying?
That would be cool
Its mine
Keep up the good work and can I get a hi
Maybe you can help getting both tracks going again with your media coverage.
Sad to see a place that was full of racing in that conditions
Should do the same thing cleetus McFarland did with the race track he purchased. And purchase the speedway and bring the track back to life.
Wow ashame hopefully they can recover. All of the tracks in pa ran regardless of the regulations set by the governor, and they could not actually stop it because a federal judge ruled that the regulation on crowd limits as unconstitutional.
That’s a shame that it’s abandoned
sad to think what can happen in only a year
You should be very careful that property is owned by Jackson County
