Slow the playback speed at this part of the song down to 0.75 or even 0.5 and just listen to all the harmonies and layers and chords going on here. It gives you a sense of how complex the playing and layering of it all really is.

The version on the album gives of the vibe of such sorrow and historical pain from the band members past, adding the brass ensemble makes me pour out my tears away. My number one song of all time now.
The part with the Hypnotic Bass needs to be in the actual song, not just live...it's my favorite part of the song

It really sucks that a studio mix akin to this was never produced. The version of Broken we have is great (although as it is, it's a less memorable song on the album), but an extended version on the back of a single or on a b-side compilation that includes the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble would've been beyond awesome.

It is an harmonica-like instrument. It is called Melodica and it is the same they use in Clint Eastwood
Cosmo Gosling probably a panflute of some kind, although its played on the keyboard or synthesizer.
+Eric R. That's a synth, not a Melodica. But they do use a Melodica further in at the chorus.
