Requested by lilplinky and pretty festive too, this Beach Boys cover should be better known, but at least it's on the C2C Anthology. Enjoy! Here's to Kirsty!
I can't believe I've missed this song as an avid Kirsty and Beach Boys fan. For some reasons it reminds me of my late wife, so sorely missed as she believed in me when so many others didn't. Together, we proved our critics wrong and enjoyed 29 years together. Sorely missed Margaret Roberts.
Always so good with the harmonies...she even resolves Brian Wilson's melody at :58 in a way I bet he wishes he'd done. Hard to believe she'd be 50 this year, isn't it?
The Pogues quoted this song in the intro to House Of The Gods. They also famously featured MacColl in their own Fairytale In New York. Now I wonder exactly what's the link here
Kirsty was a great talent and this is undoubtedly her take on the song but regardless of the singer, trying to replicate one of the best songs on one of the best albums of all-time by a singer/producer at his peak was always a big ask. Its a pleasant cover but not a patch on the original.
This is possibly the finest cover of a Beach Boys song that I’ve ever heard. Simply beautiful.

This woman WAS a hero.
One woman choir. Impeccable harmonies...
Kirsty had perfect pitch. It shows.
Kirsty was a one-off , loved her.

There was so much more to her work than we heard in the US. Thank you for posting this.
nice cover from one of the most genius songs ever. My favorite from pet sounds.
Funny I saw your comment on the original song and here you are right now

@Mr1973ian It's a good cover. Better than the beach boys?
No, never.

+oldstuff I find that 'Hard To Believe'-a title by Kirsty herself.
I love Kirsty, but this is very twee. It does not have the emotion of the original.
