- We recently had the great honour of attending the wedding of the daughter of our good friend Bank.
Jom and Noi have been sweethearts since meeting at university some 6 years ago and are a much loved couple in our village.
Ta and I want to wish them every happiness in the World.

Thai weddings are fun....I was invited to one in 2017 in Chaochangso,an hour out of Bangkok for my girlfriends brother's wedding.I was told for this wedding we go boat,I can speak enough thai but I figured boat was the english word since his brides family were Prawn/Shrimp farmers.Boat turned out to be the Thai word for Church,brides family and many in Chaochangso are Christian,The Church was huge,I'd been to thailand since 84 and had no idea there was this huge Christian town,the party turned thai back at the family home,they know how to party.....Anyway If You're Invited To A Thai Wedding In A Boat It May Be On Dry Land.

Good grief, what a dowry! How in the world does a young Thai person save that much money? Fantastic filming and excellent accompanying music. Edit: Oh man, I just saw the numbers. That was a Farung-priced dowry. I've never seen a Thai dowry so high. What? Did I just see the groom give the bride more gold and jewelry? He must have come from a wealthy family. There's just no way someone making $700-$800 US a month could save that much.

Great video Brad & Ta. Brings back memories of my own. I had no idea what was happening during a lot of it but loved every minute of it. Ours was a little bit subdued because it was still during the official mourning period for His Majesty the King back in 2016, but it was still a great day. Started about 6am, finished about midnight by the time the last guests left. Worth every minute.

Beautiful filming of the old custom of marriage. Does the bride and groom recieve anything. Or does the brides family get it all. Its like buying your way in. Seems crazy to me.
Every country has some traditions that may seem crazy.
What happens to the Sinsod is dependant on each individual family.

Very interesting ceremony. Was wondering if the Brides parents keep the money or give it to the newlyweds ? You may have said and I missed it. You guys were Pretty in Pink.
That's not something that's important for me to know and so I didn't ask.
Every family and therefore every situation is different.
The groom doesn't normally do any of the negotiating with regard to the Sinsod, that's mainly handled by both sets of parents.
The brides father, Bank, is one of the best men that I've ever met and so I'm sure that everyone will be well taken care of.

It is good to see different types of thai weddings i am glad i didnt have the gate keepers ,i have a confesion to make ,when the monks were chanting at our wedding i nearly fell asleep glad no one noticed again congrats to the happy couple take care .

Brad how much did you have to pay in sinsod?
100,000 baht in cash & 20,000 in gold was paid to Ta's mum.
But Ta took 10,000 of it back off her. haha
The money is still sitting in the bank, she hasn't spent any of it.
We encourage her to spend it, but mum wants money to be there for the family when she passes away.
If a normal hard working girl wants more than say 200,000 in total sin sod, then the family is potentially trying to profiteer from marrying a foreigner.
However, if you're an old man marrying a young lady, then be prepared to pay for that privilege.

Well it's my girlfriend she's actually three years older than me a Thai woman. I just don't know what would be suitable amount I'm only 31 and haven't really saved up much money

If she said not to worry about it, that's great.
It's better not to include money when you're dealing with matters of the heart.
You should not feel obligated.
There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to sin sod and she knows her family better than you ever will. So I would allow myself to be guided by her in this situation.
