- The third instalment of the series documenting the hardest, most granite-like players in rugby, past and present. Peter O'Mahony has been a force of nature for Munster and Ireland. As a player, leader and as a human being. Tough as teak!

A beautiful tribute to POM, he has been an absolute machine giving 100% always. An absolute nightmare for the opposition in so many ways. As a Leinster man, I can only be thankful he plays for Ireland.
You lucky bastards! 😂 🍻🇮🇪🏉🤛. From your ever loving neighbours in 🏴🏴🏴 🤗🫶😎
As a Fijian rugby fan Peter O'Mahony is the world's
number one in 6 Jersey, world class well done for the final against the stomers .. Good luck Ireland in the 2023 world Cup
One of the finest rugby players Ireland has ever produced.. the passion when wearing green is there for all to see.. I will rue the day when he hangs up his boots .. an Irish rugby legend.
I have nothing to add. Just read the amazingly honest comments from rugby purists and from people who aren't even Irish.
A true legend, in the true sense of the word.
Credit must also be given to Tim for his usual in depth unbiased analysis, brilliant narratives and footage.
From a SA fan - Seeing P.O.M. play this year has been the best highlight of the URC !
From an England supporter to an English UA-camr, Peter O’Mahony is exactly the stature of a 6 that I would love to see in an England shirt.
An absolute beast, who loves his club, loves his country, and ALWAYS rises to the big occasion.
This is a well deserved tribute ✊🏼
Does the club system in England breed that kind of loyalty anymore...I remember the days of Lawrence Dallaglio (RIP Wasps), he always struck me as the kind of man who would be typical of the Munster mentality amoung players. He had an attitude of "I'll play here, win, lose or draw, until they throw me out the gates, and on that day I'll be smiling too"
Does that exist much anymore? Because its a tragic loss if not.
@@ifonlyicouldstop Wasps were always my club, until their tragic demise!. And yes, they did breed that sort of one-club loyalty - not just Lawrence but Simon Shaw, Joe Worsley, Tim Payne, Alex King and many others. In fairness, so did Leicester in the slightly earlier era.
But now, it seems that ultimately the total mismanagement of the professional era from the moronic blazers at Twickenham, and the clueless leadership of the Gallagher Prem, downwards - has destoyed that ethic completely.
THREE teams lost from the Prem in ONE year, mindless salary controls, lack of ANY COVID-period assistance, and a complete lack of marketing initiatives for a VERY good product, has done for English, Welsh and Scottish Club Rugby in the 20's - and of course reduced drastically the chances for new talent to come through the ranks !!
Thank God - for the good of the worldwide game - that we have hugely successful structures to learn from in Ireland and France (and surprisingly in Japan!) - because even the giants of the Southern Hemisphere are seeing the club game sucked into the same spiral of decline.
Sorry to sound pessimistic - and I really DON'T believe that this IS the beginning of the end ! - but it's going to take a much more savvy and adventurous breed of people at the top of most of the national Unions to turn this thing around. We need someone who can be, in the Boardroom, what Lawrence was (and Peter O'Mahony IS) on the pitch.
Fair play mate 👏
@@mikegray8776 thanks for the response, its seems like this is something that's be weighing on your mind.
I hope, at least, it was good to vent a bit!
I'm very happy with the Irish system and the kind of clubs/players and player welfare it has produced...but what ive seen first in Scotland, then Wales and finally England leaves my more than a little concerned for the future of Rugby in the home nations.
I cant imagine what it must be like to see your team go to the wall, such a pity. It was Wasps, Leicester & Quins fans that I had them best fun with in the stands.
@@ifonlyicouldstop Happy days, mate. Looking forward to the glorious return soon! ✊🏼
All the best in France, shortly. There’s only 3 teams realistically in with a shout, and for me, you’re narrowly the best of them ….. but against a France with home advantage, and the ‘Boks who know how to go all the way, whatever their form is doing, it’ll be a tough ask !!
I cant even begin to tell you of the number or arguments I've had with Leinster fans through the years decrying his inclusion in the Irish squad because, to them (as is typical) he lacked "flash".
Without doubt though, not since Paul O'connell has their been a player that more perfectly embodies the Munster ethos; win, lose or draw, no matter the opposition or the conditions, you fight with everything you've got. The result will be what it is, but as long as we know you've fought to the final bell with everything you've got, you'll have the undying support of Munster.
Few men have sustained that support for as long as Peter.
Has always been my 1st pick on the team sheet. I love watching him, his passion and pride In the Munster and Irish Jersey. He never gives up and epitomises the fighting Irish. In saying that he is brilliant player
Speaking as an Englishman 6:35 is arguably my favourite moment on a rugby pitch, he’d been down with cramp moments before and the sheer bloody mindedness to grab that ball to prevent a possible All Blacks try was simply sensational, I offer no greater tribute than to say I wish he were English!
Sound!
I still don't know how he managed that with one leg hanging off him at the time, match winning save I think
I was screaming at the TV that game. He is an amazing player and a fabulous fella. One of the greatest players of his generation and his would be the first name on my dream 15 selection. I wish he was English too, but I’m more than happy he’s Irish ☘️🇮🇪🫶
As a Cork woman, Munster and Ireland supporter I'm so so glad he isnt English..
@@tracyharrington6976 🤣🤣🤣👍🍻🫶🏴
100% great video. People talk about how Ireland is all Leinster but as a Kiwi fan the two players who stood out were Tadhg Beirne and O'Mahony. Both absolute menaces in green.
And both men of Munster.
“NO! I’M PETER O’MAHONY!” said Spartacus. Great tribute. Love him, our cold warrior with the warmest heart
Peter O`Mahony.....FEARLESS WARRIOR.
When you have to go to war,
Peter O Mahoney is on speed dial.
Great rugby player yes but it’s nothing like war, calm down. Handbags is not warfare. It’s only rugby.
All credit to Peter, a true legend. From an old Leinster supporter .
His attitude and commitment is second to none! A highly respected and talented player but IMO hugely underrated. One of the best Irish players of all time.
One of irelands greatest sons 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪Love the guy !!!Cmon ireland 🇮🇪
I'm a Leinster fan and POM for me is one of the very best backrows in the game the man is Passion personified I wish he was a Leinster player I've nothing but respect for this man because he leaves everything he has out there on the pitch and will defend his team mates with everything he has.
Youre rare enough amoung Leinster fans then (at least in my experience). Many's the time I've heard them decry him being included in the Irish lineup vs their current flavour of the week. They usually ran him down as 'workman-like' and not making enough contested yards on the crash...I would always defend him, not least on his heart and bloody mindedness. Something munster has always prided itself on, and which is completely embodied by Peter.
Think you need to reevaluate Leinster fans
@@johnmcmccormack9203 I think every fandom has its biases...in fact its probably intrinsic to Fandom that you are biased in favour of the team you support.
All I'm doing is recounting my personal experience. I've met a few Leinster fans who would bemoan having ANY player from another province on the Ireland team. I dont hold it against them, I just think its silly and laugh about it.
I don't agree, certainly a few might be of that opinion but aren't quite a few Munster players from Leinster anyway.
@@johnmcmccormack9203 you dont agree that I've met these people...well, OK then. Not sure where to go from here.
As always the vast majority of people are reasonable, can say more than I've said already.
Brilliant piece. To see him in Dublin against the All Blacks barely able to stand up and bend one leg but still carry the fight was inspirational. One of my favorite images was clapping the team into the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin afterwards. These warriors filed in looking immaculate led by Johnny Sexton. Polished, suited and booted….and last comes Peter, tie askew, shirt tail out, pint in his hand, beaming. 😊
A great answer...
Kind of the Roy Keane of rugby. Both born in Cork, played for a team in red, both known for their no shit taking attitude but actually very skilled. Both took huge pride in their team and would die for their teammates. Only difference is one played football and liked league the other one played union
No, that's Johnny.
And the other was Ronan O Gara
@@Doradexplora not really, POM has the attitude of Keane, well at least on tge pitch.
Thank you for producing this 👏👏
Peter is a national treasure and a great Cork man.
Brilliant vid wasnt it. Leinster fan but always loved POM...
That was literally perfect. That's exactly why he's so important to us.
The most key non-leinster player in the Ireland squad, absolute beast, even if he was injured i can only imagine how import he'd be around camp.
Another England supporter here agreeing - great video, great player.
I'm in tears, words cannot describe how honoured I have been to watch, meet and shout on this guy over the years I've seen him try, try, try succeed and fail too in his glittering career, he's a legendary guy with an amazing attitude talent and personality, the reaction after the new Zealand game epitomises who he is, there cannot be anyone in this country who deserved to lift that silverware more than him, I honestly can't believe he's 33 he's so fit and strong and full of true captain esqe performances I really hope he's here for another 2 or 3 years because there's more in him, Ireland have a world cup to win (we'll never have a better shot) and Munster are growing and there's more trophies in us I believe. Captain of the decade in my opinion.
In tears? Think you need to relax softlad
I couldn't agree with you more Cian. POM is the man. Always has been always will be.
I’m English and this almost brought a tear to my eye. Great job
"You're a sh1t Richie McCaw" to Same Cane during the summer series had me in stitches
Classic POM!
There is a McCaw feel to POM, not the most talented player or gifted athlete, but you just know he'd be willing to die for the team.
Like Keano was in soccer, absolutely invaluable.
A special player and man. He epitomises Cork, Munster and Irish rugby. All going well he'll be able to add a world cup medal to his locker this year
Irish back row is insanely competitive. He was rotating in and out 2 years ago, and said it was best time of his career. And now he's in fully. Says a lot about his character
An awesome committed Irishman , proud to have him in our countries team , he makes a real contribution. Thanks .
Great video, I'm a big fan of his, from New Zealand
Great tribute to a superb player. POMs snatch of the ball away from the on rushing AB attack in Dublin was a pivotal moment in that extraordinary game. Not flash. Just effective. He earns respect.
Thank you for that great video. POM is a legend here in Munster and he will go down as one of the greatest sportsmen to ever come out of Cork. Hard as nails indeed and a superb rugby player for Munster, Ireland and the Lions. No nonsense as we like em down here.
Great tribute to the heart of Munster and Ireland. That lawn thing was seriously worrying for his life after rugby.
nah, six months out of the game and he'll have no lawn left the way he clips that.
@@asnieres32 fine lawn in fairness 😂
I heard he's going to open a barber shop-introductory season ticket for Mack Hansen.
The man spends 5 mins with the doctors every game he plays and you can tell why. Always totally commited, never a backward step, never a care for his own body. He has completely reinvented himself since andy Farrell got the Ireland job, without sacrificing a single spec of grit. If the munster crest is ever changed it should simply be a picture of O mahony because he is everything that crest has ever and will ever stand for.
Thanks Tim for taking the time to do this tribute to Peter. He wears the green jersey with such pride. He is a horse on the field. Gives absolutely everything and drives the lads on to do the same. Thanks Peter for giving us such incredible memories not just in the Irish jersey but in the red of Munster too ( that’s coming from a Connaught supporter). Thank you Tim ☘️🇮🇪
That was great. People still pigeon hole him as a hard man, which he is, but he’s so much more
Peter gives his all for is country and the shirt a true irishman
POM.. legend.. total, committed, fantastic player.. there has been more though..
POC, BOD, ROG, etc...
There's a reason why he was Munster captain when Paulie was still there.. A true warrior, never leaves anything behind.
He deserves everything he gets.. You'd travel the earth and back to find a player who'd work so hard for his team.. Always about the team.. never about him..
Stand up POM!
It was great to see the old Munster shirts.... brings me back.
Great tribute to POM! One hell of a player! Hard as nails and very skillful!
Really well put together this is why Farrell puts him in the Ireland team over more talented or athletic guys seriously good jumper at 2 as well.
i was at the game vs the all blacks in 2018 and i’m not sure i will ever see a better individual performance that POM that day
In fairness, the interviewer at the start of the video was the ex-Leinster Reggie Corrigan - who's even got a bigger anti-Munster chip on his shoulder than Victor Costello and Gordon D'Arcy.
A absolute legend. My favourite player of all time. So talented so determined. Old school. to the core. Great tribute 👏
Well done a great tribute to a marvellous player
Peter o Mahoney is Irelands Richie McCaw, no getting away from it. The fact he's had so many critics and doubters down the years makes his 100th cap even more special, never have I seen him back down from anything or anyone a true leader
Absolutely love that interview segment at 1:35
The implication that his team mates didn't give 100% is unthinkable to the point of stupidity from the interviewer. Stand up bloke.
An absolutely outstanding player. And a gentleman to boot off the field. 🇮🇪🇮🇪
"a gentleman to boot off the field"
Now why would you want to boot a gentleman off the field? Hmm?? ;)
@@silversolver7809 to boot is reference to “also” 😂🇮🇪😜English language 🤷♂️
@@backpackingireland8624 Yeah, just kidding :)
Thanks as ever Tim , I was. born and raised walking distance from the RDS I went to school with BOD but POM my fave player ever
If I could like a post a hundred times I would this one. Lovely tribute and I agree 100%. Fingers crossed we get to see him lift the RWC!
POM has played through the pain barrier many a time. One of the best loose forwards in the game. Shafted by Gatland on the Lions tour. Ireland will need him fit for the WC.
He’s a man of steel ✊✊✊
Brilliant peice on O'Mahony.
Love this tim, great video and great man. He represents a bit of us that’s deep in there. Keep up the good work.
This is a fantastic video and Im glad your Selection video today brought me to it as i'm a new enough sub to the channel!! Hairs on hairs are standing up watching it.. what a player and that game against NZ in '18 you're right will go down in Folklore and rightly so.. He was phenomenal
Mate what a video, brilliant editing but the script, absolutely fantastic
The man has skills! But he’s attitude is incredible-always!! Great tribute ✊
Cracking video. I think POM and other like him show that skill is only 50%. Determination and drive are equally as important.
Great tribute to a true legend💪❤💪
Thank you so much. This is a great tribute!
Perfect tribute. Thank you for this.
He is a fabulous player
Meet him away from rugby few times comes across as a real nice guy
One of the most respect players in ireland. Brill take on POM. You can't help but love him.
POM is one of the most respected players in the game . I’m English and I think he has always come across to me as a decent guy and a phenomenal rugby player for the Lions, Ireland and Munster . Big fan
100% correct. Granite. No other #6 like him.
Wouldn't make top 10 of all time, but decent enough.
This is amazing work as usual eggchaser , really good watch
What a great channel! Well done.
Peter is a super 🌟
What a player
POM has a great rugby brain for reading the game, how many times has he stolen line-outs at crucial moments , rucks, he’s not just a hard man. He plays to win same as all the other rugby greats before him.
He gives his all no matter the shirt he wears and off the field he is a gent. Though his face when Hodnett was giving his MOTM interview and the slip of the tongue was priceless to see
The “You’re questioning my teammates “ line always gets me. Makes the interaction so immediately tense and awkward but shows he isn’t will to stand for anybody trying publicly questions his brothers effort or even worse, trying to get him to question their effort…
class tribute and that clip from the end is just perfect
Fair play! Quality video, and no better or deserving man to get the recognition and appreciation, top lad..
As a proud Leinster and Irish man. POM is one of the finest and toughest players you will get , an absolute beast and legend 💪🏉, Great video
At last a tribute to Peter the great.wish he was English
That was a lovely tribute. Nice one.
Without a doubt my favourite rugby player. IF this is the year Ireland break their QF curse it'll be not because of johnny sexton but Peter o'mahony
Nah it'll be because of both. Along with all of the coaching staff and so many other players. Everyone plays a role and everyone is so important and skklled
When POM takes one look at the Haka he goes into berserk mode. Always elevated his game against NZ. Talking shit to Code Taylor was hilarious in the last summer tour
Sam Kane
@@ballinlough12345 ah you’re right, that’s how anonymous he was
Great tribute and thanks for taking time to make it “ he might be a bit of a lad but he’s our

Just brilliant, ♥️💙♥️💙
How many times for munster and ireland ,at a crucial time ,has omahony come up from a ruck wkith turnover ball ,or disrupted opposition lineout, or made telling stops of attacking player,, he is priceless, and as this is reLly his last world cup ,let us hope he stays healthy during the prelims, assuming, ireland get through, so that his leadership andskillss will tell for ireland,, They dont make many like him...UKRAINE FREE AND AT PEACE
Irish warrior every time he plays.
That was good work, Tim. Nice one.
The one Irish player I wish was ours!
You’ve gotta love that Mam 😊Fantastic video Tim 👍
Pure munster. 👏👏👏👏👏❤️
Great tribute.
You missed out that he actually captained the lions in a test match!!!
I wouldn’t mention that. I’d say he tries hard to forget that debacle. He was so poor on that tournament he was dropped and didn’t play in any of the test matches. Poor player.
@@jasonsmith4483 Mate. He did play in the test matches. He was captain in the first test, when Warburton was injured.
Also, a Lions tour is not a tournament.
You don't give the impression of someone who actually follows rugby
@@Farzocalypse21 and he was so poor he dropped immediately.
honestly pete’s highlight reel is insane
